It's different. TS3 is obviously better if you like the open world, but as for the actual Simming part, TS4 is much more polished.

I'd give it a try if you feel like pirating it, but since it is so different from TS3 your mileage may vary

how do you make people stay on your lot without adding them to your family?

It sours my mood a little to find that EA is scumming it up hardcore with the game and DLCs but then to also see modders doing the same thing with Patreon.

It's just odd coming from a game where modders just make mods, like Fallout, to this where 80% of the content is pay-to-play.

Man I've just realised I'd kill for an SFM/Maya style posing feature in TS4. Grab a sim and pose them anywhere in a lot, however you want.

Keep asking them to stay the night.
If they have to go to work or if their mood gets too low they'll still leave though. If you're talking permanent (like roommates in TS3) there's not much you can do right now

Because I'd take pretty sims and shallow gameplay over ugly sims, low framerates and 5 minute loading times.
Now, if TS3 ran well and hadn't aged like milk I'd probably still be playing it.

Considering most mod developers purposely hold off on releasing updates for very long periods of time to get patreon money, I'm starting to doubt this. A donation button would be good. A bitcoin address would be good. Not releasing a new version of your WW animations and instead having half the animations be "patreon exclusive" making the original version of the mod really just a free trial, is bad.

I guess it's just a difference in communities. It seems to be far more socially acceptable to have paid mods for the Sims moreso than any other game I've seen.

Character creation in 4 is a blast but did did anyone else feel the building tools to be a little wonky when they first played it? I can't seem to figure out how to properly make decks and foundations

As in you don't play every single household. Of the households you don't play, but still interact with, what do you prefer them to be?

On TS1 I don't care. If I'm playing TS2 I download decent face templates and play on a set up that doesn't spawn any default townies/families in the bin; it matters very little as the genetics in that game doom any long-lived 'hood into having sims with sameface.
On TS3 I make some sims for template purposes, therapture the 'hood I want to play and set immigration on for a while, plus replace npc/service with immigrants. Nraas' StoryProgression keeps things interesting, although the save is likely to die before reaching a significant amount of generations.
TS4 sucks so I don't know. Try MCC.

I wish sims would churn out babies away from doors.
