The more I play Duel Links, the more I realize something about Konami.

Look at pic related. It was considered one of the worst jokes in the card game's history when it was released. But in Duel Links, this laughingstock is borderline Tier 1, with the #1 player in the latest tournament running a Ninja deck focused on him.

I used to think that Konami was either incompetent at best or malicious at worst with their designs. But I now realize that literally everyone in the R&D department is playing a totally different game from us. If you told me with a straight face that some set of Konami players thought Black Dragon Ninja was going to be usable in the TCG, I would have laughed at you, but I believe it now.

Konami genuinely thinks that Duel Links is the correct way to play the game, and they've believed this since well before Duel Links was even conceptualized.

well duh, card games aren't meant to be played so seriously, yugioh is designed to allow for wild comebacks, but that also allowed FTK to become a reliable strategy

I think Duel Links existing in the first place is a good thing.
It hits the """"normie"""" market along with the nostalgia market, while bringing in money and possibly more people into the main game.
Duel Links isn't a meme, it's a different game with the same resources.
Konami has had their cake, covered it with frosting and are now gorging themselves on it.
I would not be surprised if in the future we see IRL Duel Links format YCS.

Worlds last year had Duel Links format. It was streamed. Toons+Ninjas won.

The only issue I see with this is the skills.

Duel Links is faster than the TCG. A full match of Duel Links takes half the time of one TCG duel.
