>considered one of the best presidents in history
>even though he married his cousin and put Japanese-Americans in race based prison camps

How?

Because he apologized afterwards so that makes it ok.

American 'Liberals' are a strange bunch. They love personal freedom and ones right to choose yet they also adore authoritarianism when it suits them. FDR fixing the supreme court is considered "a necessary evil" to prevent those damned Republicans from opposing his policies.

>married his cousin

I want to fuck my cousin so I am interested in this.

He also cheated on her.

Well I don't intend to marry her.

Because 90% of their positions and arguments are morality based, so they appeal to people who like to broadcast moral superiority as though it wasn't subjective, but the standard. You can point out great hypocrisies, but they can weather it better than anyone else.

He didn't really play a huge part in the prison camps and was purposely misled by the Secretary of Defense into thinking Japanese Espionage was actually a big problem. The cousin fucking thing was weird but shit happens, if it's a consolation he didn't love her, fell in love with a girl who he had cheated on her with, Eleanor found out and forbade him from seeing her, Eleanor became a literal lesbian later in life, and then after this shitshow Eleanor was all "ok whatever you can get back with her even though we're still married". Fucking divorce must have been a total shitshow, politically speaking, back then.

But anyway, he's loved because of his immensely successful and aggressive domestic policies that brought the US back from the brink while also helping rebuild the nation along with being a genuine dude whose voice calmed everyone down, and giving the Japs and Huns some big American dick. He also was so successful because he was willing to negotiate with literally anyone, Conservatives, socialists, blacks, etc.

if you hate fdr remember he's the reason you have the weekend off and why you don't have to subsidize your parents once they become too old to work

>conservatives, socialists, blacks
One of these is not like the others.

I'd say any two pairs in there have a lot in common.

because he wasn't perfect but he did far more good than bad

>implying there's anything wrong with marrying your cousin

>married his cousin
She was his second, which is essentially harmless inbreeding-wise.
>muh camps
He took one shitty decision after the US was surprise-attacked and dragged into the largest war in history.

The prison camps were unfortunate and a blight on our history, but the nation was in panic and there was a lot of open hatred for a lot of Japanese-Americans in some places. That coupled with would have probably lead towards that decision.

As for the cousin thing, she was a distant cousin if memory serves, so it is not that weird.

He also did a lot of good, like mobilizing the American economy both in war and peace times, rebuilt and build infrastructure across the country, and won what is, for the most part, the last war where America was seen as a grand and heroic country fighting for democracy and freedom (likely do in part from propaganda at the time, also literal fucking Nazis).

He handled the war very well. His economic policy on the other hand was yike

Read what happened to Asian-Americans who got deployed to Vietnam. Keeping the Japanese separate from the rest of the population during the war was honestly more humane. They were protected from anybody who might want to lynch them during the war.

You have to weigh a presidents accomplishments against their mistakes.

FDR got to make more mistakes than most, because he made more accomplishments than most.

>""""""""""""""Prison"""""""""""""""" camps
Liberals ought to know how the fuck the Japs treated civilians in occupied Asia.

I seriously worry about US liberal views on the Pacific War. Increasingly they are painting it as some sort of war where Japan was fighting white imperialism when we Asians saw the fucking Jap animals as doing the same thing.

>unfortunate
>a blight
stop

>They love personal freedom and ones right to choose yet they also adore authoritarianism when it suits them.
Doesn't the same apply to conservatives who on one hand are all in favour of the right to bear arms and economic freedom but at the same time want the government to ban gay marriage or abortion?

>adored by conservatives
>spent an absurd amount of money on a lost cause (lies), crippling our nations economy

How?

>Increasingly they are painting it as some sort of war where Japan was fighting white imperialism
I never, ever heard anyone treat it like that.

And the concentration camps in America were full of native Americans, not Japanese immigrants or somesuch. It's not like Americans put other Americans with German ancestry in camps when the USA fought Germany, so clearly racism against Japanese people was a factor.

He also trusted Stalin to abide by his promises.

Nobody "adores" him. Pretty much everyone agrees deep down he was very innefective, it's just hard for loyal republicans to admit it out loud. Moderate conservaties share the general opion that he was in way over his head.

Constant propaganda and misinformation from ((academia)).

Same reason he was reelected thrice, probably.

He got us into two wars that we kicked ass in, after a long period of boring peace. That's pretty fun.

remember the embargo on japan

>implying you can take away a freedom that doesn't exist yet

>because he was willing to negotiate with literally anyone, Conservatives
>Conservatives

When exactly?

Many Japanese Americans lived outside the camps among whites just "okay".

A factor, sure. But there's a lot of factors like that like the distribution of the Japanese - American population.
