It's generally a much better experience than the first game, with higher production values and better balance. It's a real shame that the story is Apocalypse-tier garbage.
Samuel Reyes
Fun weeb game killed by a shitty anime and dumb port content.
Hudson Martin
Best protagonist
Ryder Bell
I liked it, a bit too many characters but the combat was more enjoyable than in the first one.
Christopher Adams
11th for I love SMT4
Cooper Hughes
weeb garbage, even worse than Persona
Aaron Lee
>weeb garbage in obscure japanese roleplaying games wow
Austin Collins
it's weeb to the max, respectively, has the worst art style of the whole series.
There is a fine line between serious looking jrpgs (like SMT4 or Nocturne), and pic related.
Grayson Cox
>wrong filename Stop this impostor
Noah Collins
and?
Joshua Wilson
The story of DeSu2 is much better than Apocalypse. You can kill the Law fag, persuade Neutrals to join your cause, and join Chaos. It helps that Yamato was a better Chaos rep than Lucifer and Walter.
Eli Gutierrez
This is what bugged me the most about Apocalypse. They've already made games with SMT themes that were heavy on characters and slice of life crap. And they still gave those characters convictions and had more alignment routes. Apocalypse was just fucking lazy.
Bentley Adams
Final verdict: >Inferior to DeSu overclocked but better than original DeSu for regular ds
Chase Gutierrez
None of the characters had lives outside of the plot. Nanashi and Asahi were cadets before becoming Hunters, but that's about it. The laser focus on Bonds stunted the character growth and made everyone seem hollow, except for Navarre. It's a shame because the early parts, like Flynn getting you hunter cred and Navarre acting as Oberon's wingman was fun.
Evan Perez
Do we have a higher resolution version? I can never read these as I'm blind and assume other people are as well.
Joshua Baker
>None of the characters had lives outside of the plot. Just like in every other mainline game
Justin Sanders
SMT I, Nocturne, SJ and IV aren't mainline?
Angel Hernandez
I thought it was going to be my favorite MegaTen game until mid game ish. By the time toki was added I thought it was mediocre at best for the rest of the game.
Caleb Evans
Please, law/chaos heros and nocturne characters got less backstory than fucking Gaston. SJ got better characters, sure but SJ is a masterpiece.
James Richardson
Yeah, but in Apocalypse and IV it seemed like demons had lives outside of the plot. You had Krishna treating his plan to rule the universe as an epic play, Scatach calling in Flynn to fight Setanta because Cu was a big fight slut, Prometheus trying to test if humans are worthy of his flames.
William Taylor
>SJ got better characters, sure but SJ is a masterpiece.
Man of culture here folks
Henry Bell
I can't really suspend my disbelief that a fourteen year old girl would able to be an effective assassin, break out of a demonic possession, and live up to the Ring of Gaea's ideals. She might've been better if she was an adult.
Eli Williams
The demons actually had interesting things to say about the nature of the universe and human life. The humans don't have an original idea of their own and spend their time circlejerking and taking credit for Nanashi's actions.
Leo Baker

Jose Davis
She might not be a normal human. Does wear a mask that resembles a demon initially.
Carter Cox
did nothing wrong
James Bell
Her as a 24 year old with the same body type just taller would be 11/10. New VA as well.
The shift from a 18+ cast to 14-18 really killed the mood for me. I would have been OK as long as asahi and nanashi were the only two that were young (assuming dog stayed dead)
Jose Perez
>None of the characters had lives outside of the plot. >Nanashi and Asahi were cadets before becoming Hunters, but that's about it. Nanashi is an orphan and Asahi don't have a mother. The two were raised by Boss. The two were cadets, being aprentices of Nikkari and Manabu. This is A LOT of backstory compared to Nocturne or SMT IV. We don't even know Demi-fiend parents. The side characters and demons have a lot of backstory too.
Of all the shit done by IVA, this isn't one of them.
Chase Evans
Imo they gave them too much backstory and some of it was super forced. Felt like they put the pause button on to do their woe is me speech.
Chase Hill
If the game had been about Nanashi and Asahi rising thru the ranks as Hunters, then it would've been solid. Dagda possessing Nanashi and controlling his free will hurts it in some respects.
John Collins
Nah, i don't think the backstory of any character was forced. But the character development throughout the game was the part they made mistakes. A lot of mistakes. And some characters, through they have interesting concepts, ended up like typical anime cliches. Hallelujah is fujo bait, for example. And i like the guy, i want to be his friend, but the fucker is fujo bait.
Isaac Rogers
>The shift from a 18+ cast to 14-18 really killed the mood for me. This. One thing that i instantly disliked about apoc was how young the main cast was, i just can't take a story of a bunch of 15 y/o killing God seriously, if it was just about Nanashi and dog being hunters while dealing with the divine powers it would have been a little better
Grayson Thomas
My problem with the age of the cast isn't because i can't take them seriously. I find it ok, but playing the game i saw that they choose this much more due to appeal for the general audience. This breaks a little with the "Punk ethos" we had with atlus and mainline games, they really weren't the guys who would follow what's popular just for the sake of being popular. SMT IV still had this punk attitude, with the use of an unfamiliar setting for the series etc.
I like IVA gameplay and it's story, much more than the majority of people, but the sentiment of atlus not following it's creed gives a bad aftertaste.
Ryan Cook
Sounds more like a spin-off or an entirely unrelated game, rather than a megaten game.

Mothman is cute!
Noah Perry
I completely agree. Nanashi and dog being young could be ignored if they grew as characters fighting the DP. Too many characters just chocked out the potential to have character maturing.
Hell we could even have gotten Flynn and bobo as (better) mentors
David Fisher
any anons got the full resolution of this P1 art?
Noah Peterson
I don't agree that the shift in ages was the real problem. I don't think "teenagers = bad writing" in SMT, SMTI was all teenagers and they were all pretty great for what they were and their importance. I like having an adult cast too, SJ has a great cast and I grew to grow quite fond of the Red Sprite crew honestly, but the cast being teenagers isn't the problem here I feel. IV:A sadly is just a case of having a terrible writer, nothing else really can be said. To play devil's advocate the game started as a simple enhancement for IV and eventually became its own thing later on so I guess you could argue it may be due to time related circumstances that the writing faltered but still. IV's writing was also pretty wonky, I like Walter and Johnathan but as alignment reps they were pretty underdeveloped and saved thanks to some amusing interactions and quirks. Bobo was always just shit and took any nuance neutral had and just made it into any other jrpg's "muh human potential".
Jason Smith
Not sure but maybe this version?
Found it here, great archive for SMT art, even has some rarer art from the famicom version of MTII.
Logan Stewart
thanks. where exactly?
Isaiah Brown
For some reason the link I give is being detected as spam, sorry. From a tumblr called "artofkaneko", has a lot of high resolution art. Sorry I can't link it but eve reverse image search should bring it up as one of the first links.

Design-wise, I'm torn. She looks cool, but also a little off. I'm not sure.
As a character, definitely. Anahita was a perfect choice for a law godess, being a fertility goddess of zoroastrianism.
Hunter Morris
The only thing I'm not really a fan of is the neck, looks weird in my opinion.
In my opinion Shekinah is the real highlight and Doi's best work yet for a demon. It's a great design and while I sort of wish she had a full body I guess being just a head ties into it appearing like YHVH.
Ryder Garcia
thanks a lot user
Owen Wright
Was never really a fan of her design myself. I love the idea of her being under glass like that but things like the arms and body just look weird. Pretty okay for a demon designed by some lackey though, she was just made for a single episode of demikids. No problem, found it some time ago and thought it was pretty cool.
Cooper King
Shekinah looks a little wierd to me too. I don't like female heads that look bald. And I don't like when supernatural figures have magic supernatural lipstick as part of their face.
Cameron Williams
Are your lips the same color as your skin?
David Lee
They're a lot closer than the ones in that pic.
William Wilson
I really like it actually, looks really exotic and otherworldly. Dis also always looked really cool to me. Something about bald women just comes off as "unnatural/paranormal" to me for some reason.
Carson Davis
>for some reason.

There is no 18+ cast. Just 18.
Space Marine is the oldest and Aleph is the youngest.

Mastema's breakdown felt more like he was beyond mad and throwing insults at you rather than revealing his great master plan pretty disappointing desu

I agree. The real Mastema is a very trustworthy man who would do no harm.

Two questions, though I don't know how much you can help with the second one.
1) Will SMT Liberation have Gacha elements? I make a rule not to play those games, since I have an addictive personality.
2) I'm trying to run a tabletop RPG campaign based on SMT, particularly Soul Hackers. It's using the Chronicles of Darkness rules. I'm trying to figure out how to adapt the combat to suit the player and demons and elemental weaknesses and all that suchlike. If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it.
William Myers
Liberation is a modern day mobile game so the chances of having gacha elements are high, approaching guaranteed.

IV setting is literally Etrian Odyssey
Nicholas Ramirez
i was thinking how would that even work, and in megaten like world it could be probably done by redefining what life is and corrupting "cherish thy life" because of that, changing it from a more general, flexible "follow your will, make your own choices and accept their consequences" into a completely rigid, literal "fear death, protect your flesh because this bio-machine is life", then insert that corrupt definition as an instinct called fear of death into every single thing's collective subconsciousness, animal and human alike and let shit unfold.
Andrew James

I didn't expect her to be so distraught at the fact the Flynn was going to commit genocide that she would actually slit her own throat.

It's a shame i never got the chance to slit her throat myself....
What a worthless character overall
Christopher Nguyen

Why do everyone hate him? I didn't find him annoying and his ideology is great since it creates a world of compassion and brotherhood even if it means that some people will not contribute anything. He is an astrological socialist, not a communist.
