there is an option to make them harder but the AI is retarded so you don't need to. You would have to be completely unwilling to fight them and for them to consume an entire kingdom before they would be a threat.
you can buy, sell, breed, lash and take slaves as courtiers when using the CB slave raid you get a camp in your capital called slave camp which randomly spawns slave courtiers to be used however you like. the Camp can have 4/5 levels I believe and supplies you with 10k Light Foot at max level with some other bonuses
