Normal quests. Don't bother with expeditions until endgame.

You should be doing every single quest. What you'd likely want to do is caravan quests then level up your hr in tandem with that so you get better gear for doing the gathering hall quests.

Caravan quests are single player, you need to do those to unlock a bunch of shit you need.
Guild hall is multiplayer, it unlocks some stuff at the trader and kitchen and eventually has some monsters you don't fight at all in Caravan. G-Rank is Guild Hall only but worry about getting through LR and HR first in both Caravan and Guild Hall
Expeditions are just free hunts on random maps, there's some materials that are more common there like Heavenly Crystals. It's also a good way to farm Caravan Points.

Gathering Hall quests are online quests meant to be done with a party. You can solo them but the enemies will be damage sponges. Stick with the normal quests for now.

From shield thrust you can go into the lvl 3 elemental and then cancel out to charge the shield

you could always do it, but in X/XX it only gave yellow shield

you lost the ability to AED from sword mode in Generations, and quick-dialing in Generations resulted in a weaker shield charge, so the move was really never used unless you had an extreme surplus of phials and very little time to charge. World CB is more akin to 4U CB though, so you can do a lot of stuff from Sword Mode very quickly, like charge your shield.

It just seems like the best thing to do with it is to switch to sword mode at the earliest opportunity, mash a combo until you're about to run out, do an amped discharge, then swing with the axe until you can switch back

New player here, why do pro speedrunners not go for the head? Does it not matter from a DPS perspective? Also, I see a lot of weapons being able to cut off the tail and take off monster horns so why are sword players so adamant in their role of taking off tails? Even bows and lances can do it.

I wouldn't say earliest opportunity, you want full sword bar, but yeah that's about right.

Swords as in long swords? Because they have huge reach which also means they'll hit you too. If a LS calls tail I just let him be and go elsewhere. Everyone wins that way assuming he actually cuts

The head is not necessarily always the weakspot, let alone the best. If you were hunting say Teostra, plenty of weapons won't bother with the head most of the time since standing in front of him is generally asking for trouble, and it's better to chip away at the legs.

in addition, there are incentives for attacking and breaking certain parts, depending on the monster. for example, hitting the legs will eventually trip the monster for several seconds.

Some monsters like Teostra have weakspots elsewhere
I think Teo's head IS slightly weaker than its hind legs, but because its harder to hit its not worth it, hind legs get highest dps

45 is enough to trigger stuff like Weakness Exploit. The legs are also infinitely safer than trying to hit Teostra in the face, considering if you're at the head all he has to do to chunk you for half your HP is take a step forward. Legs win out.

More like 55 most of the time. But point is it's more safer even for a Hammer to consistently hit the legs when GS can go for a consistent stagger on the head and eventually get a KO from Punishing Draw

The only fight I can think of where it's a fucking pain for LS to get the tail is Brachy, just because he moves around so much and he's pretty tall.

And Glaive Anus for those same reasons since you can only cut his tail when it's heated up

Glaveanus is easy to knock over though thanks to the heated throat, and its tail takes very little damage to cut.

most breakable parts aren't damage type exclusive, but tails always need cutting damage to come off. The exceptions to these are barroth, whose head only breaks with impact damage, and duramboros, whose tail comes off with any type of damage
Also, once upon a time, some monsters needed a specific element to break their parts

Before World, Bow had little to zero cutting potential, and bowguns never even got slicing shots until third gen

Armor as in Super Armor; the ability to be hit by an ally during your animations and not be interrupted. SnS has none of it in World outside of the Charged Backhop and associated followups. In previous games, you get 2 seconds of armor following your X+A rush-in attack, but afaik that's gone in World. Makes playing online really frustrating with SnS.
