It's my first time trying it, I didn't play any of the betas or anything. I like how it handles Imperium and client states but I have a lot of concern about just about everything else. Only 70 turns in or so though. Is it generally regarded as worse than the Rome version? I know most of the original EB team left for EB2 so I was already a bit worried about how it handled the historical accuracy side of things.

How to handle research in EU3? Focus everything on government in the beginning to get the first national idea? And afterwards, just focus on one area to Max depending on my needs and switch or does it make sense to put up multiple sliders slightly?

yes. if you need something then rush the research for it, otherwise just do whatever is closest to being done, but government usually takes priority. Also move your money slider until you get 0.0 or -0.1 inflation and check it periodically

Why would you disable the Mongolians? Delayed Random is the best choice, because that gives it more variance and it's still possible it won't happen at all.

If you are a Merchant Republic and you are landing relatives you are losing males therefore losing trading posts therefore losing retinue and coins for mercenaries. Lusty lowborns. Yes. You need to keep an eye out like a dirty jewish hawk for civil wars. When you see one you go for the weaker side and try to snipe a city before the civil war concludes. For the first half of the game you will need to keep your man in Constantinople sucking up to the Basileus non fucking stop (while you are whipping cities and islands out from under him).
It's a rotten, sneaky playstyle and I love it.
