You're going to hate your life anyway for playing with Tamamo. For some reason through, defense does increase skill damage so it's not entirely worthless. She's a fucking monster in the later third of the game if you build her for skills and magic. Make sure to use the correct skills as you unlock them to get nearly guaranteed stuns in combat by countering the enemy's attack with the appropriate skill

My earnest best advice would be to bind save/load state to buttons on your gamepad, and save at the start of every battle because fuck me she's made of tissue.
