They already have. They're trying to clone how Katawa Shoujo presented their characters, who have physical disabilities, because KS is praised for its presentation, while completely ignoring that mental disabilities are very different to physical disabilities. You cannot just wash mental disabilities under the water and make them just some form of inconvenience in the long run. Mental illnesses and whatnot eat away at who you are - they will influence practically everything you do. They should be taking notes from DDLC, not KS, although to be fair DDLC is super recent.

To be fair, we've only seen 30 minutes of Missing Stars. It'd be equally unrealistic of them to show mental illness as something that's immediately obvious on you in a super clear way from the moment you show up, like a missing limb. The characters do come off as eccentric, so it's possible that later down the line we might see the full force of their craziness.

That doesn't justify the fact that the demo is too short to DEMOnstrate that, make it a poor fucking DEMO

I'm still of the opinion they're going for a twist with those characters. They're just far too over the top for that. My bet: it's actually going to be a lesson about how you shouldn't judge people just because they go to a special school.

The Russian girl is a better example. She's definitely weird but it's clear the weirdness comes from her personality, not her bulimia. The bulimia will probably be played up later.

As for the artist, she has a good range of body shapes, she can draw sticks or buff women.
So the change was purely intentionnal on the writer's part.

I'd buy the idea that there was a girl who acted crazy for whatever reason but actually wasn't, and there's a lesson about judging people there. Like she's tired of being made fun of for her actual disorder so she decided she'll play along and act like the Joker all the time. HOWEVER, if this is really the idea how could there be two characters like that? It's such a specific plot point it can't possibly be the case for both in the same game. So either you're wrong, or the Somnova writing team is even less coordinated than we've thought and this does not bode well for their game at all.
