Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher. The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3000 units, 900 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep. Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.
>How do I change the fonts? Replace guifont.ttf, guifont_fancy.ttf and guifont_texty.ttf in the game's 'data' folder (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dominions5\data usually).

>nobody warred Lemuria >Lemuria ate AI >Lemuria became the biggest nation

any new games recruiting?
Jose Edwards
Happened in casual racism. Lemurs lost anyway because they sent 90% of their army to bully the small guys while Atlantis just took the thrones. Good times
Samuel Phillips
illithid traps
Jose White
Eh, CR really wasn't defined by AIs. Lemuria ate players that couldn't deal with Lemuria, but it was more on account of Lemuria being OP and the people that Lemuria invaded not playing as well as they could have.
Ian Richardson
Hey admin, TC is staling. Maybe set them AI.
Evan Hill
Cthulhu families.
David Williams
astral shield, y/n?
Jace Russell
Itdepends/yes. May be good for assassinations.
Christian Johnson
It's not that great but I'd say it's worth scripting on thugs with Astral paths because every bit of avoidance helps.
Kevin Scott
It's actually really huge. Nearly as good as a vine shield
Cameron Campbell
Anyone have that image of a bandar commander reading a newspaper? I can't find it in the imgur.

>can't combat boost existing low level air, the booster requires a lv4 battlefield spell >most accessible air booster requires lv4 >only generic summonable air mages are conj 8 air/nature 5 and a fucking demon lord There is no feasible way to add air mages to your army before extreme late game (and with some specific high paths) without RNGing into air indies. Does it bother anyone else that this path is so arbitrarily hard to access? Even Astral, arguably the most obscure and esoteric path lore-wise, allows you to RNG into it comparatively early and cheaply with Spectral Mages and Hidden Underneath/in Sand, and those can even roll with stats to forge communion items to allow them to cast important battlefield enchantments even at lv1.
Robert Torres
Most air specialised nations have no problem in rolling A4 recruitable mages. A1 is already powerful for allowing to craft owl quills.
Nolan Cruz
How do you deal with strong assassins when pushing into enemy territory?
Landon Baker
It's just something that makes the path unique, and it's arguably the strongest path to have to have one or several big mages in (Fog Warriors in particular is gamechanging).
Also, empowering Faerie Queens isn't that bad supposing you haven't used air gems acquired up that that point for other stuff.
Dominic Carter

What nation has the best assassins? C'tis? Abysia? R'lyeh?
Liam Hernandez
Ctis due to skelespam
Caleb Lewis
Whoever has dream seducers
Nathan Sanders
>tfw finally rolling S1E1 on a wizard >tfw empowerment in blood on an E mage doesnt cause a horror mark

I'd tie Ctis with Abysia due to Lifelong Protection

>Does it bother anyone else that this path is so arbitrarily hard to access? Yes, though in my opinion blood is harder.
You can dip into blood a bit as a non-blood nation but unless you have recruitable blood mages you're never going to properly get into the full demon summoning mode which makes it so crazy lategame.
Caleb Sullivan
Blood should be hard to access, though. It's fundamentally different than the other 7 and it's very powerful.
Easton Price
Maybe lore-wise, but having such an important lategame tool be basically nation-specific (when none of the other magic paths are) is a nightmare for balance.
Jeremiah Bailey
Eh, chances are you'll probably hit something retarded.
Wyatt Parker
I'm more bothered by air because it's just another elemental magic yet so much harder to get into than the others. Generally you try to get into an unnatural path just to have a couple mages who can cast battlefield-wide spells, rituals, forge items and site search with. A huge blood economy is a much bigger deal in the bigger picture and I do agree that it should be harder to get into. Or maybe I would if it wasn't so fucking overpowered. As it is, maybe everyone should have an easy B1 summon. "Just gang up on the blood nations lmao" isn't my idea of balance.
Cooper Miller
Games will usually end before you get a Blood economy rolling unless you luck into garnets.
Nathaniel Edwards
Doing Blood as a non-Blood nation is entirely possible, it just take some work and preparation.
>take a pretender with a decent level of Blood (you like B4 for Blood Surge anyway, right?) >start hunting for Blood Slaves as early as possible >every time you get 50 slaves, empower an indie scout and use it to hunt more slaves >start crafting Dowsing Rods for your scout hunters as soon as you've got a couple of them out hunting >later on, empower a mage in Blood (a death mage for vampires is probably optimal) >enjoy having a whole new path available to you for endgame shenanigans
Of course this doesn't give you any tangible benefit early on and you won't be able to compete with actual blood nations with just this, but having blood available on a small scale is still a big asset for the lategame either way. Even if you can't get the Blood uniques, some of which are really good, just having shit like vampires and generic demons available is a pretty big deal. In Dom4 I won a game as EA TC by breaking into blood and using generic demons to back up my regular troops and summons.
Jeremiah Ortiz
>I'm more bothered by air because it's just another elemental magic yet so much harder to get into than the others. This has bothered me for ages. It's the only damned path where you can get stuck at 3 and most of the good stuff is at 4/5.
Robert Perez
Any new games that need players?
Adam Brown
It's pretty justified IMO. Air is one of the most powerful paths, and nations with high native Air access are usually built around that. A single high-Air caster makes a massive difference in mid- and late-game battles.
Mason Thomas
I said you can dip into blood, and I won't dispute that it can be very helpful to do so.
Other paths have most, if not all, of their lategame tricks locked behind a high path requirement instead. Breaking into the path might be hard but once you've done so you can compete close to equally with a nation who gets it natively.
That's not the case for blood, which is why I call it the hardest path to break into. It's just not possible to compete in blood magic with a blood nation.
William Butler
LA Pan. Swarm is pretty much as potent as Skeleton Spam and they're the cheapest version of dryads.
Jace Anderson
Swarm is as potent yeah (if not more) it also has a gem cost
Ethan Long
Cornucopia exists in Dom5 and it's perfect for Dryads.
Julian Clark
On the other hand, there isn't an abundance of D2 assassins so the likes of Empoisoner and Tlahuelpuchi also need to use gems (although the latter also has access to Leech).
Evan Lewis
12 gems is more expensive than 0 gems
in this instance 12 gems is more expensive than 8 gems (skull staff)
Andrew Johnson
I was thinking of giving the assassin 1-3 gems for each assassination attempt.
Dylan Scott
>12 gems is more expensive than 8 gems Seducing a commander is much better than killing them, so it works out.
Liam Young
>giving boosters to assassins instead of just a gem or two
Camden Parker
Do Hamadryads do anything besides being a N3 hunk of immovable tree?
Joshua Watson
if you empower them in Astral they're not immobile anymore

Personally I think each planet should have at least 1 of each terrain type. But having the entire planet dedicated to a terrain type is also fine.

Standard rainbow meme gets b4 for soorge. It's not even all paths, it's all wizardry and all sorcery separately.
Alexander Brooks
I didn't realize this could be stacked. I wonder if it actually makes him immune to all non-AoE projectiles?
Daniel Peterson
Only non magical projectiles. Some spells chuck non magical projectiles, but some archers have magical ones.
Caleb Bailey
>major resist >major resist >major resist >strength >major resist >undying 3 >health 3 >strength I feel like that would be good on a nation with accessible high prot sacreds, but I doubt it's ideal
Mason Lee
You know, I've never been so sure about that. At times it's seemed like Air Shield is stopping things like Magma Bolts and Nether Darts. I'm going to test this.
Camden King
Ys?
Austin Gomez
I know in dom4 air shield stopped iron blizzard, which is magical.
Maybe it's changed since then.
Nathan Wilson
It stops Blade Wind, but sure as hell doesn't stop magma bolts.
Colton Campbell
Ideally you'd want 4s in Earth and Blood for reinvigoration and blood surge.
Caleb Watson
of course, but I was assuming 3 across the board
Camden Anderson
Ys or Marignon would probably get good use out of it, maybe Mictlan too if you used it on Jags instead of Eagles
Julian Baker
Just picked up Dom5. Do we still use the /v/anheim group? Not sure where to paste the chat link in the OP.

Liam Powell
Odds are you have suffered a decisive setback, but thanks for your sacrifice.
Owen Morales
Ur mum suffered a decisive setback when she got you.
Landon Russell
Yeah, and she actually continued on to achieve a hat-trick in birthing a bunch of losers. And what does she have to show for it? Nothing. With advancement in her career broken by becoming a mother, she's now a lowly bureaucrat doing work that doesn't even begin to match her education. Conversely, attacking Ermor might yield you a """""prize""""" in their capital gem income (analogous to yours truly), but you're most likely irrecoverably set back by exhausting your strength capturing worthless provinces, and will never be able to get back on track.
Owen Jackson
>tfw your neighbour thinks he's a hero and tries to remove Ermor/R'lyeh/Lemuria
I'm thankful for your service and your help weakening Ermor will not be forgotten nor will you weakening yourself and offering me a free cap.
Just let them do it, there's always some guy who thinks he's a paladin or some shit throwing himself at cancer nations. Slows the cancer for the rest of us and gives us almost free provinces.
Charles Cox
Come at me, bro.
Jack Baker
If started early enough, most of Ermor's provinces will be still alive, especially if the attacking nation is a rush nation like Pan
Brandon Flores
And unless you conjure siege strength out of nothing, the surrounding territory will most likely be dead by the time you breach their capital even if they were healthy at the moment of capture.
Now, immediately at the start of the game is a "good" timing to attack Ermor. The other "good" timing is between gaining access to battlefield clear (like Fire Storm) and Ermor researching a counter, or just insane midgame power peak (say, Caelum, if Ermor doesn't have magic weapons bless to counter air elementals and Fog Warriors). But you don't come out ahead. At best, you come out ahead relative to having no choice but to fight them a dozen turns later when the last pittance of gold income has disappeared and you have to break multiple forts instead of one.
Anthony Baker
>garbage >pond >damned squids That was very very rude, for that rudeness I'll stop throwing just chaff at you and get considerably more annoying.
