oh yeah, that's just cause i'm trying to uniform them all and it's sorta going back and forth. they keep removing their uniforms if they're not actively following in an order, and i keep messing with it trying to get them to keep it on. i've had a squad of nobles casually uniformed for years now, so i don't know why i can't translate the concept to the rest of the working population.

With 1337 dfhax, I have given myself 10 swordsdwarfs and 10 supporting dwarves to launch a military expedition to the elf-held island continent. I aim to launch raids ASAP.

posted an image of one of my early farms covered in puke the other day. embarked in a white desert, and the surface is absolutely covered in puke right now. can i do something about this without dfhack save hope a dwarf wants to go and clean it?

I think some anons have reported success with all labors removed on a dwarf and assigning urist to a burrow you want cleaned.

As a graphicsfag, I think this looks very aesthetically pleasing.
But can you still discern between different entities if you're using different shades of just one color?

The wereelephant who resides in my tavern has killed another bard... other creatures he has so far not attacked.

Dwarves won't clean outdoors but rain will clean it over time. Seeing as you're in a desert you may not get a lot of that. You could maybe pump water over the whole surface but it may make everything muddy. Dfhack is probably your best bet. I think it's current (44.04)

How do I make dwarves not fat?

by systematically starving them by only producing just enough food to survive.

if a dorf gets to eat whenever he wants, it will be added to his fat reserves, and he'll inevitably get fat. likewise, whenever he goes hungry, the fat reserves will decrease. being fit has nothing to do with it. as your overpowered legendary militia squads show, a dorf can be both morbidly obese and fit at the same time.

I really enjoy Rimworld. Dwarf Fortress looks really great and I wanna take the plunge. Is there an emphasis on worldbuilding? I love that shit.

A lot of the world "lore" you kinda have to piece yourself, either with legends mode or legends viewer. But yes, its rather easy to connect the dots and see some kind of "story" popping up from the world history.

That's cool. I know it goes through x years when building the world. Is the lore just in legends or whatever, or can I find stuff while exploring too?

Most things yeah, you can find in the world.

There are some things that you still cant find, admittedly, i.e libraries/taverns in dark pits/fortresses, or gruesome sculptures that goblins make from the bodies of those they kill in wars. Those are only described in worldgen - though at some point you'll probably be able to find them.

You can use the same world for multiple adventures and fortresses, yes.

Also yeah, I'd recommend doing adventure mode a bit to check some stuff out on a more individual level, before setting up a fort. Of course you can just hop into fort mode immediately as well, really depends on your preference - I mostly play adventure mode myself.

As a player of both modes, it's often enjoyable to find out where you want your next Fortress to be in the world(with your preferred site stats), then before you start it, play around that area in Adventurer mode to feel a little how is it to traverse the area and such. That way you can say you've been to that village that sends you caravans every year.

Can you commit genocide yet or do e*f villages still repopulate in the time between fast traveling away and returning?

Calculatoranon post your color scheme too. Don't show us one of the more original ideas we've had in a while and then just disappear.

Should have made it a Game Boy color scheme though, it's pretty close as-is.

Im still working on the color scheme. I will probably end up with multiple color schemes: one that has Black=Black and fits closest to DF's default scheme, and another one that is "inverted" (pic related) that fits more to what a TI84 color scheme would look like. heres the latest iteration. I am going for Calculator aesthetic and you may not like it but this is what peak TI calculator performance looks like.

Game boy has only 4 colors. I could use a 16px tileset and if I add transparency to make a dithering effect it might just work to get 16 colors, but it would be tricky. Worth a shot, stay tuned

Svalbard has a population smaller then 5000. You must be the dwarf fortress representative there.

Not him but I don't think the third tourney was that bad, it had some bad moments, mainly because people complained too much about stuff being unbalanced, but the fights were still fun and I enjoyed it.

Its not bad, the air can become a problem when you go deep but the temperature is very stable and warmer than the surface.
Not to mention were in the dark period here in the north so its dark underground and dark above ground.
I have only seen Polar Bears four times after i got her three years ago.

No taxes and the pay is good, just there aint much to spend it on. Most people works some years then move back to the mainland.
The job is fantastic as long as you get used to working in tunnels. some people cant take it and some does. also you gotta chug vitamins all day since there no sun up here and you are down in the dark all day anyway.

Go ahead and download DF, create a world, and open up the Legends mode or get a Legends viewer. You'll see some worldbuilding alright.

it's literally the opposite in the game, though.

dorfs never attack other races in worldgen. they just mind their own business up in the mountains, and then other races (mostly elves) attack them because they're offended by their ethics or values. it's not uncommon to see dorfs wiped out by elves in smaller worlds.

yeah, as of 0.44, the player can send soldiers to mercilessly sneak into elf settlements and steal first editions of classics such as "At One with the Forest Retreat".
