Career

What do you guys do for a living?
Do you really enjoy it or are you just doing it to get by?

I do security, I don't enjoy it but I Bulged a disc and waiting for it to heal so I can get back into my welding career...

construction inspector for my state's DOT
I love my job because 80% of the time I chill in the office not doing anything. Nothing to inspect if the contractor isn't working that day. Not the greatest pay though, only 60k.

In my spare time I daytrade momentum stocks. Still kinda suck at it, but hoping to become good enough to be able to quit my job and just daytrade within the next 2-3 years

Commercial Real Estate Broker. It's fun.

AR Dept Head
Oversee fatwads of cash and receivables
Should make over 60K after bonus

>hate my life

Mostly I write. It's utter hell to get established, but once you have cashflow that's enough to live on your life gets very comfy and only gets better from then on.

Business Analytics. I enjoy it. work 9-5 or even less some days, get to spend all day playing around with data, and I work directly with senior management.

I'm retired. Can't complain.

Software developer?
As a job - its utter shit.
For my own projects - its amazing.

Aerospace stress engineer here. It's ok, but I'm getting out and living my NEET dream as soon as I have enough to retire.

Investment banking associate - M&A. Large possibility I get promoted to Vice President in December

I enjoy how challenging the work is, but I hate the fucking hours sometimes.

On my way to work in the morning, I daydream about finding a job that I could work remotely for ~15 hours a week and just enjoy my life. Then I get to work and like solving the problems that my MD throws at me. I'm just over staying late and dread going into work because there might be a chance I get home past midnight.

day trade stocks by day, wage slave most of the week. building a massive portfolio for retirement which grows weekly. I dream of creating my own holding company

How am I the first one to say NEET?

You wagies are retarded

NEET here too. You're not alone. When will wagies learn?

what do u daytrade amigo? Who'd you learn from? I daytrade too, mostly gaps in momentum stocks

Healthcare consultant. Make over $160k a year but it's been over 3 years since I spent fourteen consecutive days in one time zone. Yes, I've done the math.

I drink most mornings to get through the days of having clients yell at me for things they did while I bill their time during it. I hate myself and my life.

Stone cold quitting on June 30. I'm going to sleep for a month straight. It's going to be amazing. Got enough saved up to do nothing for like 2 years but plan on getting something together around the end of the year.

software engineer
all i ever wanted to do, but business makes it annoying
the money is so good i cant even pretend to be bothered

Op here.
I've been working in the retail business for 4 years now and I'm finally ready to get out. I did go to college for accounting, but I dropped out because I wasn't doing very well in my classes. I went to Community college and then transferred to a good 4 yrs school, but couldn't handle it, so I left.

I'm thinking of going and getting a job at a hospital and work there for a year or so. I think I will then try and use their tuition reimbursement plan and go back to school to get a cert in something once I'm ready for school.

Is this a good plan?

Work from home tech support. The pay is shit and the customers are retarded but I don't think I can do any more than short bursts in an office anymore. I hate most people and their bullshit. Anyone know any non poverty work from home tech jobs?

not a bad plan, degree route is always a decent safety. But in your spare time I would suggest learning a skill such as coding or trading. Something else to generate you money to fall back on

I'm looking forward to be a software developer. Please explain why it's shit.

Yeah that makes I guess you're right. As of now I'm just trying to get my foot in the door. I applied to 6 different hospitals and I still haven't gotten a response back.

>Borrow money from the bank to go to uni and skip class
>Make Excel spreadsheets for a scary 6-foot insurance sales-lady

cant wait to make stacks and repay that goddamn debt.

me? i suck dicks

Should rec me the job as you leave. Ideal job for me

Leave town, travel alone across US, make good money and don't care about being yelled. Slightly sociopath, can sit there and smile while thinking about fuking their mouths while they yell at me.

Debugging. If I were spending most of my time actually building software, and not fixing software (and fuck me I'm not the best there is, so a lot of the time I'm fixing my own mistakes), I'd enjoy it a lot more.

What do you write? Plz respond

Horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and a little bit of romance because that shit sells like hotcakes.

junior software dev

doing it to get by, no idea what I want to do with my life

You must be making pretty good as a VP I suppose

what education do you have? mba?

I manage a digital marketing team for a tech company. I used to work for a company I loved doing it, but then they went bankrupt. Now I'm doing it for a new company that I'm not very interested in, but it pays the bills.

In short, I love the role itself, but I don't really like my company.

I'm a Data Analyst and have a BBA in MIS

I move from job to job to get by. But the information I pick up along the way is tits.

Hey, I'm also studying MIS. Any advice you can give me. I don't like project management and wondering if I should learn to code?

How did you bulge a disk while welding ?

Coding is necessary if you're a data scientist. I'm assuming you don't want to be an excel monkey.

Learn Python, R, and SQL

I Bulged it from working out. Not from welding.

>He fell for the squat/deadlift meme

Recommended route to get there? I've got all the education, just need to take the real estate test. I'm in California btw.

Longshoreman.
Fucking hate it but the money and bennies are good.

I'm a business writer.

95% of my clients are great, but it's the 5% that are a real pain in my ass. Sometimes it's easy money, other times it's hand holding morons through every fucking little step.

I guard churches and graveyards at night. Mostly it's just me sitting there and making sure nobody steals anything inside (church is open 24/7).

It's chill because I can shitpost on Veeky Forums or listen to podcasts while I'm doing it.

>accountant
>pic is my life

8 more years and I will be able to walk away from this prison sentence.

Accounting,
want to break into management consulting because it's only a matter of time til accountants get automated.

>accountants get automated

Thats a meme, r-right?

Same. You guys auditors too? I wanna get out so bad and just have an easy staff accountant position in the city

Pilot, USAF

Worked my whole life to get here, and I fucking love it. Go to work every day and get to do cool shit, plus the opportunities for when I get out are just ridiculous. However, your wage is capped by Uncle Sugar, so I'll never be rich unless I invest all my extra cash and keep my expenses to a bare minimum.

Got a JD and a master's?

Yooooooooo, what are your opinions on the USAF HPSP?

>HPSP

I'm assuming you're talking about the health professions scholarship program? I don't know much about it other than a buddy of mine from college got it and the USAF is paying for his medical school as long as he gives them X amount of years, and our flight docs are fucking bros, so I'd say it's good shit.

software engineer.

I get piad to work on only the projects I want and in the end I feel awesome because I built something. The place I work also has a decked out snack bar, coffee bar, and free cocktails every friday.

learn to code, live a based life while getting rich on crypto.

Its really enjoyable if you are a smart person. Coding with minimal bugs is easy especially once you have been doing it a while.

pay is excellent, perks are great, and you can work from home if you dont want to wake up at 8am that day.

Pest control for the biggest company on the U.S.
It's cool to see crazy shit and how the other half lives. Plus I make good money.

>how the other half lives

Please elaborate.

Yup that's it.
The med school i'll be attending doesn't cost nearly as much as some others do so money wise it's an unfavorable decision. But being a flight doc seems bretty good

Like a legit pilot that flies the jet fighters?

I play poker professionally at my local casino. The advantages are that the games are really soft and I essentially have the freedom to work whenever I want. The disadvantages is that income is inconsistent that some days I leave the casino losing around $2000.

There's someone from every walk of life on Veeky Forums. It's why I love this place.

I work in buffalo. The 3rd poorest city in the U.S. The people I service live in what should be condemned houses. They keep dogs locked in the basement in their own shit and piss. They claim they have no money, when I tell them it will be 1200 to kill their bed bugs they pull out a stack of hundos. It will be 9 in the morning on a Wednesday and kids will be sleeping in not going to school. They live in section 8 housing but have 2 closets full of brand new Jordan's. I have had to call animal rescue a few time to save dogs and cats from abandon apartments. See in buffalo a large amount of the housing is upper and lower units. So the nigs will beat feet and leave everything behind, including their animals. So I go to kill roaches or bed bugs in one unit and the other units tenant will tell me they hear the animal going crazy for a few days or maybe a week and the other tenant has been gone.

Tl;dr niggers

Holy shit. That's sweet. It must have been hard to get that position

~$275k-300 all in now. ~$450k as a VP

Grow pot in a legal state

its ok

How did you get your name out there? What was your major?

I tutor English online and in person 1 on 1. I sell buds, and trade crypto... All working from home

>Student graduating with Ass. in 2 weeks

>cert. professional Life & Health Ins. in state of Ohio

I work as a senior associate at a PE firm

How do you get a job like that?

Do you like it?

I'm a university student but I'm graduating next year. I currently work part time in sales for Sears. Commission makes me happy

Networking and learning MBA material while in undergrad. I love my job, I get to travel the world, visiting different companies and chatting with CEOs, underwriters, consultants. There is so much to learn. Perks are flying business class and five star hotels.

Hope you have a marriott visa card! All those expenses could get you some major hotel points for personal travel.

Private investor
I've been averaging >50% returns since 2011.

Because i can drill, repair, and operate an oil well, build a house, fix plumbing, operate most all heavy equipment bigger than a house, build a pc, forge, cast, and coat most anything i need from trash, drive a motorcycle, semi, car, build massive expensive pvc fittings, weld, mechanic, electric, etc...

>don't change jobs ever
>changing jobs taught me how to survive

You poor bastard. Just diet and weld. Your job physical as fuck as it is.

Front end dev/email marketer for a massive B2B corp.

My job and life are both mindless and meaningless.

>mfw I went to school for 16 years to turn commas into smart commas.

what kind of education do you have to reach such a position? what did you start off as? how did you get there?

>just graduated with degree in Marine Transportation
>shipping industry is in a huge hole and i owe $60k
Currently thinking i made a huge mistake while applying to dozens of jobs and getting no responses

Yeah, that sounds like Buffalo sure enough.

>finish uni
>get a job at a government contract IT house
>ihatemylife.jpg
>co-workers are manipulative and bitchy
>so much passing the buck and blame shifting it hurts my soul
>quit
>get a job a year later at a small business
>it support/business analyst/"end to end"
>given quite a bit of responsibility, learning as i go
>developing relationships with clients
>the banter is getting betters
>genuinely feel fulfilled because I'm improving their business

As I'm getting older, friendships fade so I'm so happy that I can develop good relationships with clients

Studying nutrition at university while working in a higher end food shop on the side, living below my means and investing the difference.

I could use some advice from Veeky Forums. I think I made up my mind about my future, but am still having some doubts.

So my end-goal in about 10 years is basically to be an influential figure in my chosen field of law. Its a relatively small field with not many people active but it represents a huge monetary value and is always in development.

My situation:
>nearly finished with uni
>specialised in a certain field of law
>did three internships
>first at low level municipality
>second at semi-prestigious law firm
>third at ministry of economics
>all internships highly relevant for my field of law.
>build a small network

Got two options now:
>job opening for legal advisor at a national advisory organ that represents many interesting organisations
>will be handling many interesting cases in an advisory capacity
>hugely beneficial to my network
>1 year job
>move on after 1 year, hopefully made a name for myself in that year.

Option 2:
>apply for position at law firm
>guaranteed job for years
>slow progression
>be one of many
>however, be able to make good money in a few years.

What would Veeky Forums do? Option 1 feels like more of a gamble that could pay of nicely, or blow up in my face. Option 2 is the slow but steady route.

Anyway, long and rambling blog. But this is a big decision for me and I'm really not sure yet. Leaning towards option 1

Telecommunications. Commercial sales and account management. Hate it. Pay is nice though.

Lmao he's doing a session in my city rn lol.

Im a dentist, i love my job and earn 3x monthly average with less than 1 year of experience.

I am also not an americuck, so i dont have to spend 50 years to repay denbts because i got my education for free.

Will you be able to follow option 2 if option 1 does not work out ?

Godspeed user.

Short story anthologies that I self published got me out there. It's easier to break into writing when you self publish and have those numbers to show a publisher to prove that your writing can develop a following.

I was an international relations major, but I'm going back for biochem just because I like knowledge.
