why does western media always suck Rommel's dick and present him as some apolitican gentleman soldier when in fact he was a hardcore Nazi and fanatical supporter of Hitler?

Also related, why do they always portray the July 20 plot as some liberal pro-democratic movement when in fact they were all hardcore nationalists that knew they were losing the war and wanted to replace Hitler as leaders of Germany so they could sue for peace with the allies and keep the occupied territories?

memes.

Mostly for propaganda reasons, it made the allies look better if they said they defeated a top tier German general. He was the main general the allied forces were fighting from 41-43.

The real king of the Wehrmacht was pic related.

what western media is sucking rommel's dick? please tell me I would love to know.

Pretty much every WWII documentary that touches the subject in the Western media.

Because criticizing Germans for their actions in WWII becomes more and more irrelevant for the mainstream as time passes. Few people care about these details, except history nerds and descendants of people affected by those events.

These myths in particular were meant create the image of an honorable "anti-Nazi" resistance and rehabilitate Germans.

To add to the list
>Prussian elites were refined gentlemen that dindu nuffin
>the only bad thing Germany did was the Holocaust
>all military innovations in WWI and WWII were made by German geniuses while the Allies were a bunch of simpletons that won only because of numbers

>why do they always portray the July 20 plot as some liberal pro-democratic movement

cause the Kreisau Circle is boring and didn't do shit (actually they tried negotiating with Allied intelligence but got ignored/not taken seriously)

Top-tier jerk too.

>lmao lemme just steal the italian's oil to escape from El-Alamein and leave them to be captured
>ermahgahd why can't the Italians fight!

Nevertheless, what becomes most regrettable is when he's heralded as a fantastic general when fighting in Libya, when he fought with the most brilliance in Tunisia by incapacitating american forces whose strength outshone him by a triple at the very least, what with pre-emptively uprooting them by capturing Gafdsa and Faid.
But nah, we have to be constantly hammered in with the famous duel between Rommel and Montgomery, when the facts would have you know that Rommel had been summoned to Germany for the greater part of El-Alamein.

Was it true that he was respected by his enemies, or is that a meme as well?

Respected? Sure. They knew he was at least a competent foe. Liked? Well he was their enemy so no.

Back then, make guy who was great so you look better by defeating him, I bet.

Now-a-days I think it might be that so that there is a German WW2 figure who wasn't a total dirtbag so that Germans had somebody to fondly remember in the war. Just a guy fighting for his country and was a kick-ass general.

Like a German general Lee.

Also, it lets Wehraboos idolize the German army but not the NAZIs. Hes the most prominent German military guy who was involved in a Hitler assassination attempt.

>fanatical supporter of Hitler

He was forced to himself because he sat knowingly when Hitler was being plotted against.

>western media
Why don't you say Americans? You are the only ones who give a fuck about dead Germans. Like a collective Wehraboo obsession.

well strictly speaking the whole rommel myth bullshit sprung up in england during the war

I believe this is relevant

wow incredibly on point
thanks user chan desu :^)

Rommel being a meme mosty came from British media during the NA campaign, we called him the Desert Fox after all

>m.
I want phoneposters to be genocided.

and eastern europeans

ironically, the biggest wehraboos are non-russian slavs

Croats and Czechs, mostly.

Nice addition to the board

probably because the Germans didn't treat them nearly as bad as they did Poles, Russians, Serbs, Ukrainians, etc.

Croats get their own (enlarged) state and Czechia was a comfy protectorate

He also volunteered to command Hitler's personal bodyguard every chance he got before the war started, and shot propaganda films on behalf of the Nazi Regime post fall of france.

They suck his dick not for his political views and alliances but his amazing abilities as a military general.

when in fact they were all hardcore nationalists that knew they were losing the war and wanted to replace Hitler as leaders of Germany so they could sue for peace with the allies and keep the occupied territories?

what is wrong with that? what else could they have done?

>but his amazing abilities as a military general.

Which were what exactly? Ignoring the strategic context of the only campaign you were given a free reign for and demanding offensive action despite all the advantages being with the enemy? His abandoning of most of his supplies back in Tripoli for lack of transport and then complaining about not having supply? His talking himself out of the likely landing area? His advocacy of a beach defense plan that had already been demonstrated to fail?
