There was a lot of intelligent discussion though and it had the least amount of shitposting I've ever seen in a Veeky Forums thread. The crop doesn't show the whole thread or any of the side conversations going on. People speculated about what was going to happen, the effects of the Great Game, etc.

I've mentioned this before but this is a really shit way of looking at British India. It disregards 50% of the population by looking at it through the eyes of a villager. Don't get me wrong, the collapse of the Mughals was pretty bad, but it didn't make whites look like gods. It might be more appropriate for Old World and New World Interactions though I don't know much about that subject so I'll let other people decide if that's the case.

For one, it equates having better ships with being magnitudes above in technological progress. There's no doubt that the subcontinent was behind in this regard. The Indian subcontinent has really only had one overseas naval empire, the Cholas. And up to that point, they had only had one naval invasion, Arabs coming from their ships to take Sindh. Indian peoples in general were never really amazing at naval warfare because almost fighting was on land between squabbling states or foreign conquerors.

The problem with this is that ignores all the scientific, architectural, and cultural advances made by the Mughals. You have to be literally retarded to think that Europeans were so technologically advanced so as to destroy the enemy that easily. Even if European naval power is crushingly strong against Indian peoples, there's still the factor that many Indian nations are landlocked. It wasn't machine guns versus sticks and stones. This post almost seems to imply that Mughals and post-Mughal empires lacked gunpowder which is laughable to say the least.

It also forgets about inventions like Mysorean Rockets(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysorean_rockets) which would influence European rocketry.

Personally one of the biggest factors that I feel is overlooked is European tactics and logistics. Despite India's rich history of warfare, their they were lacking in this area. I don't know the reason why, I presume /pol/ would say its white supremacy while others might say it had something to do with Mughal rule. Whatever the case, It's worth noting that empires who employed Europeans to train Indians in such matters like the Sikh Empire were pretty strong. The Sikh wars were some of the bloodiest that the Anglos faced, and its arguable that the Sikhs could have won them had some small things played out differently. Of course that's delving into historical what-ifs, so I'll leave it at that.

There's probably a lot more that factors into it too. As I said before, the Mughal collapse was not great for India, and though the Marathas and Sikhs were strong, they could not accrue the same kind of wealth and power the Mughals had. With India fragmented, it was easy for Europeans to play nations against each other.

Looking at technology as the sole reason for Anglo rule in India is too narrow-minded. It ignores so much other stuff that is arguably more important. By the 1800s theres no doubt that Europeans were more advanced than Indians in a lot of, maybe most, technological fields. And yet the Sikhs(and Nepalis for that matter) were still able to put up a good fight.

On a state-mandated level? Yes, the Soviets were atheists and sought to destroy. On an individual level, in privacy (what little there probably was)? No, many kept their faith in smalls ways and such. After the liberalization and eventual fall of the Soviet Union, the Russian Orthodox Church quickly returned and began reopening hundreds of churches and such for the faithful to attend worship at, having a lot of success in their efforts.
Well, with the increasing secularization of the world, we might see in the next couple of decades/centuries. Who knows though, history has a weird, almost completely unpredictable course to it. If it does happen though, it'll be built on centuries upon centuries of work done by religious civilizations.

It's really only in America that there's a giant controversy over evolution anymore, and that's due to our natural tendency as a nation to cause topics to become polarizing and the publicity stunt trial that brought the issue to the forefront turned from 'did Scopes break the law' to 'Clarence and William bitching at each other about theology and science with Clarence as the advocate of Darwinian evolution and William as the advocate of fundamental Christianity'.

Basically, both sides are filled with hyper-radical members like Ken Ham and Richard Dawkins who kicked the beehive and keep kicking it every few decades.

I never said I approved of the Soviets' methods and such. While I enjoy the thought of communism and socialism in their most idealistic forms, to implement them fully requires too much of a reduction in personal and economic freedom for me to support them.

Besides, the more idealistic ones typically weren't the ones who gained power and instead were sent to the gulags themselves for disagreeing with the state. Any government that claims to set you free from bondage is inherently lying to you as you must sacrifice part of your freedoms to join them, whether by choice or by force. While this sacrifice is a negative on its own, the return you receive in security from a benevolent government is ideally of greater value.

Anyways, enough of my rambling. Lets just get back to funny shit which I sadly can't contribute to because I don't hang around here much.
