first for non of this software works.

i am so fucking ready to dev holy shit

Post your project.

...

take your daily dosis while deving

In unity/godot every object can have it's own update loop. Is it possible to do the same in love2d? Adding code to 'main.lua' for every single object is messy

can any of us post our projects?

>about to post progress
>think of something else to add that would make it less shit
I promise I'll do it tomorrow.

Is making a game like Recettear very hard? It's like two games in one, does that mean it's twice as hard as a normal game?

Where do you go when you outgrow agdg? Artstation? Reddit?

If you have to ask then yes it's hard.

agdg discord.

kek

It has a lot of menus so yes it's hard

out of the games industry entirely

Neither of the "2 games" are particularly complex, they combine to make the other better than it would otherwise be.

But there's no other way of making money. None.

Open a shop.

Make a seperate update function, pass delta to it and call it in the main update function.

This prescription seems a bit weak doc, you holding out on me?

these guys can be a little troublesome to those who don't have any weapon upgrades that can reach them, requiring some strict timing and positioning to get through the gaps in the right moment

also tinkering with the look of this section

The last collectible for the first level, which is Montana Wild's coveted and much-sought-after barrel-aged pirate rum.

you need to take it slowly before take the complete dosis

Why are you still using Unity?

is this cuphead of cats?

i heard godot 3 is out now, is it good to use now?
How is it better from the previous version?

Between the lighting and the webm compression you (unfortunately) can't see the bottle itself.

I debated between this design and a "Captain Porkins" but I didn't think the latter joke would convey as well without an X Wing pilot helmet. Unfortunately, this design (with the sky blue hair and the purple leggings) doesn't convey well either in the water shading.

It's kind of a throwaway joke anyway but I spent a non-insignificant amount of time on the label so it sort of bums me out.

Lovely like always.

literally everything is better

moody

I liked charge shots better

but I'm not, user

nice cuphead clone whodev

Made a new post about proprocessing GLSL shaders in Coal. It has absolutely zero images, so few will appreciate it.

What do I have to do to get my posts to show up in tags?

I'm doing this...

Why is her hat so cringey?

Not technically out, but the latest release candidate is pretty close to what the stable release will be. It's better in pretty much every way. 3D has improved significantly, the new audio system is very nice, many improvements to GDScript, and it uses Bullet physics for the 3D physics engine.

Godot is open source, you could check out how it does it.

Love2D doesn't know anything about objects. That's entirely up to you, you can do ANYTHING.

more??

should the player object deal with attacking or should the weapon?

i think i''m oding doc.

yes add it in update()

trying out shadows

Does it look like you can collide with the background tiles? Don't want the player to get confused.

If you made them look less like platforms and more like greenery or whatever it would be less confusing.

I can tell they're background, but I can also see how it could be easily confused.
In my opinion the background tiles should be simplified. The foreground tiles are detailed and nice looking, but the background being exactly the same ends up adding a lot of noise.

It doesn't look like you would bump into them but it looks like you could land on top of them.

Yeah a little bit, they're too flat.

What age did you grow out of video games and pick a real career?

how do you create good atmosphere?

i think i'm color blind. how everyone colors so good.

Is that you grandpa?

Background/environment should be dark/washed out, except for a bunch of interesting items/details that should have vivid colors with emissive properties.

how many named characters is too many

My secret is I just copy the color palettes of other games that look nice, as well as some pixel art color palettes from online

Depends on the game.

It depends entirely on what you mean by object. What do you mean by objecg? what is an object, here? However you differentiate objects, you will want to put an update function for each object, and then put all those objects (or the object' update function) into an array, and then call every member of the array in the love.update function in your main.lua

thanks
y-you too

why Henry first it's only a nose?

nice viewtiful joe clone.

Ouch. That hurt.

is the game with the reloading manually?

You can pick only one:

nodev
>has a gf he fucks daily
>has friends he hangs out with
>has an actual career that makes him more money than gamedev ever will
>has his own place thanks to all the money
>wakes up at 5am feeling refreshed so he can start the day early
>works out
>thanks to all the free time he can spend it learning interesting new things and hobbies
>former results in him being an outgoing and interesting to talk person
>doesn't have a backlog because he finishes all the games that he's interested in
>mentally and physically healthy because he has a good life
>will die happy knowing he lived everyday as if it was his last

gamedev
>khv
>no friends, maybe 1 at best
>neet or works retail, literally slave of the 21st century
>lives with his parents
>wakes up at 6pm tired and groggy as fuck havent achieved anything during the daytime
>dyel
>only knows gamedev nothing else
>boring as fuck personality because of the former
>too poor to afford video games to have a backlog
>has some kind of disorder that developed from social suicide
>will just like make game that will get popular, sell it to M$ for 2 billion bitocins and retire in some tropical paradise fucking sluts everyday and die from viagra overdose eventually

nice ending

i don't want to fuck sluts though

Decent dev here with little expertise outside of programming. What language do you guys use?

nice Jackie Chan clone

Late post but I want to plow the one on the left until she turns retarded from pleasure

I use GDScript

Lua w/LuaJIT, and a little bit of C, mostly with LuaJIT's FFI

nodev
>uses his freetime to get a degree in business
>starts up a company
>pays contract devs less than minimum wage to make his games
>they sleep at the office in order to make deadlines
>runs a very successful business with multiple releases a year

yesdev
>will just like make game that will get popular, sell it to M$ for 2 billion bitocins and retire in some tropical paradise fucking sluts everyday and die from viagra overdose eventually
>wakes up from dream
>eats a poptart
>jerks off to anime
>goes back to working on genericplatformer#112198084
>asks his mom to borrow the car because he needs to stock up on energy drinks and mountain dew
>makes 0.00001% progress on his game
>jerks off again
>goes back to sleep

>asks his mom to borrow the car because he needs to stock up on energy drinks and mountain dew
>implying he even has a drivers license
>implying he is even capable of purchasing items at a physical store
If anything he will order energy drinks and mountain dew online.

yesdev sounds preferable honestly.

>looking through GDC talks
>woman comes on
>immediately close the video

Daily reminder.

iktfb

>woman comes on
>uh oh
>she introduces the male speaker

he never needed anything else
thanks

Anyone have any suggestions for a good design doc template? I have been sitting on this idea and finally am going to focus on it tonight. Otherwise I don't think I'll ever get anything done.

Just write things down in a way that you can understand. You're the only one who's going to be looking at it.

You could try hacknplan. Otherwise I'd stick to pen and paper.

some big games have their game design doc online (like diablo) look at them for structure ideas

Design documents are a meme

dropping a hot stinky word on this

How do i into procedural generation without copying someone's code, and also do you guys copy code, or do you all make it from scratch.

90% copy it and slightly modify without understanding

Octave

how do I set a rigidbody velocity in godot?

You can't.

>tfw you look like the sexy version

feels good man

>tfw you look worse than the bad version

linear_velocity = Vector3(x, y, z)

Reminder that all you have to do to be a successful indie gamedev is to work hard at your dream game

Hahahahahahahaha

...

Give me some game design ideas that even a 3rd grader would know is retarded. Something like

>In multiplayer, Player 1 starts off with more health than all other players for no reason other than he is Player 1

Personally, I figure out what outcomes I am looking for in the PG, and then I write down on paper steps to achieve those outcomes, and then I translate that into code and tinker with it until it works, and then I alter it until it works AND it's satisfactory. Usually, I'll already have code in place for putting the stuff in by hand, so i have a base to start off on when coming up with generation methods.

As far as original code goes, I have resolved to use original code as much as possible (pretty easy to do on something as open ended as Love2D), and so far, all code in my engine/game sans very few snippets (bounding box collision, precise framerate code), is original. Taken a lot of extra time, but I think it has helped me grow a lot as a programmmer.

Putting chest high walls and regenerating health in an action game

Well, blacks, I think I've reached enlightenment or some spiritual shit.
I've been free all day, it's like something different, like I'm in nirvana.

The question is that I had been depressed for two years because I could not fulfill my dream and if I fulfilled it, it would be shit (it has to do with art, I am a mediocre artist).

He was tormenting me thinking that I could not win millions, I would die poor and forgotten and I would never have a girl who loves me.
Today I had a revelation that basically told me that all these things were things that another person had put in my head (society, friends, sempais) and that they were things that were not real, that the only real thing is the moment that I live now and that I was mortified by imaginary problems that other people and the capitalist system had put in my head, because the companies and the Jews make money with the plebs.

It does not matter if I am poor, it does not matter if I am ugly and I do not have sack of semen, all of these are things that society (Jews) had taught me to value (because that is how they earn more shekels).

Then I realized the reason why I make art, is to reach the beauty of the world, not to earn money.
