What's been the worst investment decision of your life so far?

What's been the worst investment decision of your life so far?

I got into high fashion for girls

University

A shitload of bad bets on various sporting events. Also, some 1.5k custom desktop which worked for literally one week and then starting having a bunch of issues so I just used a cheap laptop I had and put off fixing it for months and months until finally it was obsolete. Eventually, I sold it for like $150 years later.

Same.

bought a $60 tyrannid pack when I was 13 years old (about a third of my money at the time) and didn't read the instructions so I ended up breaking the models. Still makes me angry.

If I could somehow go back in time I'ld invest it in bitcoin and have 36 million bitcoins right now worth $57,605,040,000.00

$7,000 on materials to manufacture illegal drugs but pussied out of it when the time came to use them

university for sure

Having precursors, even glassware is enough to be monitored by the DEA.

$35 to see one of
My co-workers drink coyote piss. Only got it in his mouth before he threw up.

I think seeing that would be worth at least $20, so I'd only feel cheated by $15.

Losing around 30 bucks on some fake acid yesterday, will gonna get the fucker who sold me that shit

Definitely. 10k loan back in '05 because my mom pressured me into it and I wasn't smart enough back then to figure out what to do with my life, so I just figured 'well why not college?'
That 10k ballooned to 24k in default, last I checked. My credit score is like 430. Too bad I'm on the neetbux.

As for best investment, my 5k car I got from a church. I still have it today, recently got rear ended and got 1.8k from that. The trunk doesn't close and it looks like the face of an old man but it drives fine. Tied the trunk down with a belt and stored the money away for a rainy day.
Good times.

Wageslaving for 8 years.

>stored the money away for a rainy day

in which coin?

Yep. Studying for my Calc 3 final doing Stokes/divergence theorem problems for the third night in a row. Can someone please tell me how this is going to help me in commercial real estate?

Tell us more my man

Girlfriend and then a young marriage that lasted 8 months. Worst mistake of my life financially.

Being born

Lost 800 bucks on a single penny stock. Yes I learned my lesson.

Bitcoin

>36 million bitcoins
>only 16 million in circulation

wut

you can't just cash out. that's not how this works

What is this meme. You can cash out via trading BTC for USD in any number of ways. You can get top dollar selling local bitcoin, or hitting exchanges for their monthly max every month. If fast is you goal then just advertise BTC at 30% less than the going rate and watch rich faggots lining up to take 100 BTC chunks off your hands. You can also buy hefty amounts of gold with it. Bitcoin has more market capital than some countries. People are willing to buy it.

Art school and Trumpcoins.

Fuck you Veeky Forums. Ain't trusting shitty alts again.

you sound like a literal retard. you should stay here and learn a couple of things

THISSSSS

Oh come on user, I could have told you that was gonna suck

How is that an investment unless she's an heiress or a business owner and you're a gold digger?

dang

>Art school
Yup

For me years ago I spent a hundred on a short course "how to earn money writing" I'm still down 100 dollars.

I also did a short course in fashion, on a personal level it was immeasurably profitable, it opened my mind to new forms of problem solving, improved my drawing, even stuff like how you bridge the gap between consumer- > brand -> product. But that's a few hundred bucks I'll never see again.
Didn't even go on a date with any cutie fashion majors.

>Lost money on trumpcoin.
What the fuck am I reading. Did you buy after inauguration? What were you thinking?

Personal growth is directly profitable. I'd feel fully justified in that fashion course if I were you.

Trying to start a business with my friend.

invested is POSW

I got the Jack-in-the-Box late night munchie meal and there was just too much fries and I couldn't finish it. Really not worth the price for how much filler it is.

This, so much that it hurts to think about how hard I got memed.

Shorting stocks before US election. Would've won a lot but that fucking Comey Shill triggered all my margin calls right before the election. Fuck that Jew.

why are you guys studying in a country where you have to pay for university/college. we live in a time where you can travel to and live in countries that provide free education for almost nothing.

POSW. No joke.

Studying medicine
I just had no idea what to do
Still don't have one

$50k on a penny stock that went bankrupt

>countless thousands of dollars lost to alcohol companies
>XVG
>probably ~$300 dollars from the few times I've reluctantly gone to casinos over the years
>around $50 rolling dice against the sides of buildings when I was a teenager
>not betting on Trump
>$30

literally this
I bought AMD at $15
fucking kill me
it was a huge wake up call though, it made me realise the stock market is shitty and that I'm just going to put my stock money into index funds and focus my attention on crypto where I've made several times more

POSW.

you win for being the most retarded

Ignored Bitcoin when it was worth pennies because I didnt understand it.

Tried day trading crypto instead of long term holds, missing out on big gains.

Sports betting, wasting money.

Not saving money, always spending.

Scratchcards.

Investing in shitcoins which rarely moon.

they're scared of new environments, or prefer their local uni supremacy, especially in america!

MMO subscriptions when I was a teen

I thought playing them would be fun, fuck me in the ass.

Drugs, probably.

Cryptocurrencies. Never been fooled by memes as hard before or since.

My wife

i only discovered cryptos a few weeks ago.

>made me realise the stock market is shitty
>focus my attention on crypto
Have you given any thought to what factors make the stock market "shitty"?
They wouldn't be things like lack of transparency, or bigger players having outsize influence, would they?

Back in 2009, I discovered Bitcoin and found it incredibly cool, being into cryptography myself.
There were no exchanges back then. I think it was even before the 10000 BTC pizza incident.
Thought about mining but quickly discarded the idea because I was a poor student. Forgot about it.

Lost $1500 betting hillary would win

I've made about 60% of it back since then on the same website, wish me luck for the remaining amount

Selling short

Wait... I thought we had 20 billion bitcoins to work with.

Damn this market is low.

Agreed
The thing is, the maximum gain of short selling is 100%, but the maximum loss is bankruptcy

Unironically pokemon cards. I spent so much on them back in the day. I still sometimes find the box filled with them and remember my childhood and regret that I spent so much money on them. I guess they will make a rad gift for my grandchildren.

Where can I get free tuition for undergrad classes in English?

Fucking hell, this man. Right in the feels, this.

YOU STUPID FUCKING RETARD

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS

UNIVERSITY IS FOR MAKING A FUCKING NETWORK

THAT'S WHY YOU GO TO PARTIES

TO MAKE FRIENDS FOR YOUR NETWORK

DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU CONSIDER DRINKING OR DANCING DEGENERATE

Why do you think those rich guys make their children go to a university? So they study something they like? It's to make friends and know people who will be useful for your career.

If you are in university and not making friends you are losing your time there. Thank God I understood this last year.

Here's my top 3:

>2010
>dad and I know gold is going to go up
>dad has no money; I've been wageslaving for 2 years saving it all paying no rent buying almost nothing etc.
>I have a USAA account thanks to granddad
>can't just buy gold there
>stupidly dump 10k into USAGX
>gold climbs to 1800
>stupid fund barely goes up
>found out it's mostly shit like silver/copper "refining" and gold "refining" companies and shit - turns out a precious metals and minerals fund doesn't actually buy gold
>my 10k goes up to 10.9k, but gold doubled in value
>feel kind of peeved, hang on to it until the end of the year
>it's down to like 8.5k, and I'm too pissed and don't wanna just lose 1.5k on nothing when gold was still up
>hang on top it instead of selling it
>now it's worth like 3.5k, lost 6.5k for fucking nothing.
>also had dividend set to reinvest on the fund, so the ~$500 it earned me would just keep going back into it, failing even harder. complete waste.

2: AMD - I bought and sold it so many times from $1.60 to $3, most recently bought it at 1.98 and sold slightly above TENBUX, which is a great 500% return, but considering it was at like 15 earlier this year, could've had like 900% return, and I knew it was gonna crash, and didn't jump out of it. I wanted to wait until VEGA launch instead of Ryzen, which was fucking stupid of me.

On top of this, I only put 1k into it. 500 shares. If I put 10k in this, I'd be up 41,000 - not 4,100. Could've bought a fucking house.

3: Found out about bitcoin in like 2009, thought it was cute and wouldn't really go anywhere. Friend and I could've mined like 300 a day on our shitty core2duos. Didn't bother, thought nothing was going to happen with it.

Fast forward a little while - bitcoin is $20, it's in the news, my stronger druggie friends ask if I've heard of it because I'm "into computers and would know about it" and if I could buy them drugs with bitcoin - I knew this was the time to hop on, if I was going to at all.

Cont. 1/2

POSW coin u faggot pajeet

Sell em on ebay

GOPRO and JNUG

I'd say this if I had actually paid for it.

BND is probably the worst performing investment I have, followed by VXUS.

Mgt

Cont. 2/2
So, I am too upset and angry about the fact that I didn't get in on bitcoin when it was literally pennies, that I decide to "Wait" for it to go down a bit before I invest in it. Then it's at 50, then it's at 100, and it feels too late.
After the mt.gox shit happened, and the big crash happened, my normie rich friend always looking for an "edge" in markets asks me about it.

I tell him "well, it was up so high and just crashed, so if you're gonna get in on it, ideally it would be years ago and sell before the bubble bursts, but if you were going to get in on it, right now is the time to get in on it."
He buys about $25k worth of BTC at like ~500 or some shit, and sells it this past april (april 2017) for like 1353 each.
Basically tells me "Thanks for the tip bro" and buys me a few beers. I still didn't buy any bitcoin and I'm setting up my first coinbase account TODAY.

Told my buddy not to drop 10k into BTC at 10$.

Lost 80k in forex Trading with lots too big. Making it back with crypto now though. PDT soon

Bonus 4: My poor linux-using friendo tried to sell me on Eth when it was $2.30, and I was too much of an arrogant prick to believe him. I finally got my brother to buy some eth at $48 a couple weeks ago and he sold it at $90.

I fucking hate myself.

Bonus #5: Bought my aunt's SUNDANCE Vacations meme off her for $4500 trying to help out a family member. She didn't tell me about the $359 annual fee, so now I have to take 11 8 day 7 night vacations in a year to avoid having to pay another fucking year of service fees and shit.

Anyone want to go on vacations for ~$500 a week? fuck this shit.

Also, Grandparents don't listen to me when I say "buy nvidia" at $20.
They listen to my uncle when he says "buy nvidia" at $99.

There's also all the obvious ones (amazon, google, apple)

And the fun ones like my mom thought magic the gathering was demonic and pagan so we couldn't buy it, and instead we bought the illuminati cardgame instead - it did go up in value from like 80 to 150, but MTG original packs/stuff are literally fortunes now.

Also, not keeping in contact w/ asshole rich friends from college.

Also, keeping in contact with poorfag degnerate friends from college.

literally KMS tier, but yeah.

>tfw you could've done literally everything you wanted to do if you got involved in crypto even 5 years after you heard of it.

>Also, not keeping in contact w/ asshole rich friends from college.

>Also, keeping in contact with poorfag degnerate friends from college.

This 1000 times.

Same here

And don't get me wrong, my college is 4free but, I dont have time for nothing

I placed a limit order to purchase 10K shares of AMD when it was about $1.80 share. The order never executed because I tried to be cute and greedy over a nickel/share. That is bound to be the biggest investment fuckup I've ever made.

Didn't buy as much eth and bitcoin as possible when I did

Id imagine the cashout process would be slow, unless youre willing to sell considerably under value to fill all orders on the various exchanges. Someone more knowledgeable chime in and give some details plz.

HVAC at community college
DUI instead of paying for taxi
Investing in lending club stock and bp

biotech stock, CUR. lost a few thousand. GPRO IPO a close second.

...

I bought a used ipod nano gen 4 when I was a kid. It worked fine, but man what was I thinking? 80 bucks for a shitty little music player.

Same. Never again, I'm just waiting for AMD to recover to at least 14$ this or next year and I'm out of stock market.

If thats really your worst financial blunder then i think youre doing fine.

when trying to lease or sell the real estate, if the buyer doesn't accept your demands you can say, "ha! pleb! of course you wouldn't accept, I bet you can't even solve Stokes/divergence theorem problems for the third night in a row."

Started investing at 19 instead of 16

I guess you can cash out like 100k a day without shaking the waters too much, It would just increase volatililty because of the people willing to buy the dips.

And that's 100k per area/exchange, so maybe 500k a day across exchanges?
Plus you can cash out via alpha bay goodies and "btc yard sales" .

Not completely free, but you can study in english in the netherlands for 2000 euros a year.

It makes you smarter and you learn how to tackle hard problems.

Pro tip unless you have big titties you wont make it

>rolling dice against the sides of buildings when I was a teenager
my man!

>t. chad insurance sales fag
"hey broski remember me from that rad party/kike sociology class?? buy insurance from state farm. c'mon mang, pleeeaaaase."

How did you escape?

I put $100 on Me Pen winning the election.

Wait I guess that's just gambling.

I sold PIVX at .40 cents.

how to escape

marriage

don't marry a bitch

You're able to see how market pressure acting on a 3 dimensional volatility manifold relates to the real estate costing function which serves as the boundary curve.

How else do you put a price on real estate? Trump did his bachelors thesis on this.

Only if you pick a retard major. I'm an engineer, I'm able to save and invest 30K a year while living a comfortable lifestyle full of discretionary spending.

University is for STEM, pussy, and knowledge.

>bachelors thesis

Is this a real thing

Link to DJT thesis or it didnt happen
