Well, what exactly are you talking about?
Weapons? Maps?
I'm sure all existing weapons are programmed to work with any subs/specials. They only fetch their configuration data with each game update.

My educated guess would be maps are proper updates.
So are brand new weapons (new models/textures).
New configurations are simple data, they can change it any time. See Salmon Run where all weapons get the same sub and a random special for example.

Afaik, regular, salmon and singleplayer variants are different weapon slots entirely. There are technically 6 Blasters in the game (stock, Custom, Hero lv1, Hero lv2, Hero replica, Salmon). Salmon version has Splat Bomb, placeholder special and slightly different stats (increased blast damage and efficiency).

I don't see it that differently from seasons in Animal Crossing. It's obviously an "implement for forced longevity", but that's kinda a weird way to put it. That's basically what games are.

Amiibo has been hacked long ago. You only need a NFC-capable Android phone and those $5 a dozen tags to make fake amiibo that function same as real ones. There are other more sophisticated methods too, but this is by far cheapest and simpliest.

Grizz blaster is a different weapon entirely, not a reskin. It's much more like Clash stat-wise, and has a completely unique model.
Lv2 Hero Blaster has same damage, just more firerate, and only changes the texture.

The 6 Blasters I mentioned have the same exact model, but different textures. Lv2 has red piping instead of blue on Lv1 and replica.
