talking about freebie planets, I think they're still based on distance from the home system and not hyperlanes
I looked in all nearby hyperlanes to my homesystem and didn't find any of the free planets

Nothing was worse than an enemy fleet jumping to hyperspace at the opposite end of your system without your fleet having any chance of catching them. I like that you have to actually traverse the space now

Unironically, performance. The shitty engine practically grinds to a halt late-game, and mods that add civilian trading ships can make the game unplayable.
