I fell for the touhou sucks meme and decided to try out all the other shmups by Cake, Psycho, Treason, Traitor etc. For the most part they are better but I can't get over how shitty most of the bosses are. They have like 2-3 basic bitch patterns (touhou stage 1 midboss tier), TLB may have 4 (2hu stage 1 boss).

Xyga is a cunt, but so are you.
Try Ketsui or Futari, patterns are a bit more advanced, especially the later bosses. Touhou is 99% patterns though so you're not going to beat that.

Please explain this /shmupg/:
When you see a shitty platformer, yes, it's pixelbarf with no depth or cool mechanics but you can at least see the dev was trying to clone actual good game.
When you look at some poojin shmups they have the player ship shooting tiny dots as bullets, one at a time, at really long interval and it takes them 3 seconds to reach the other side of the screen.
WHY?
Not a single good shmup does this, where did they get that from?

Yes maybe so but i have integrity and principles and that makes all the difference. I will always defend real freedom of expression.

There is a myth that shmups are easy to develope, probably because it's a very old genre.
Thus you have many wannabe devs making shmups for starters, even though they have no actual idea about the genre.
At it's basics shmups are really easy to make, but making an actual good shmup is a whole different story.

Because platformers are popular and there are thousands of articles and tutorials covering every aspect of how to make one while most shmup tutorials are absolute garbage thats made by non players who saw a clip of 1942 or Gradius once. Even still some platformers are shit and copy euro junk like Giana Sisters. I was thinking how it would be useful if a bunch of developers and fans came together and made a resource for shmup developers to learn about game design. It's unlikely to create masterpieces but it could atleast make the number of euroshmups smaller.
