DJ Hero was a fantastic game, but Activision had no fucking idea what was so good about it. They tried to market it as a "party game", when it's completely unsuitable as one. Then they fucked the sequel up by forcing the developer to do nothing but "THE LATEST, HOTTEST TRACKS", instead of the original's incredibly wide variety of styles.

I think there's a bit of miscommunication here.

One of you is talking about raising sim vs rhythm game.
The other is talking about gacha-based vs progression-based.

There's no reason they can't do a gacha-based raising sim, just like how Platinum Stars and Stella Stage are progression-based rhythm games. It's possible to mix things up.
For the record, traditional iDOLM@STER games are progression-based raising sims, and SS/TD are gacha-based rhythm games.

We still don't know the monetization model for Shiny Colors. There's no indication that it doesn't have gacha.

Well, it might not be the most accurate term here, but traditional iDOLM@STER sure as hell ain't a rhythm game (even though it had minor timing elements for appeals). You could call it a management sim, but even that's pushing it. I mean, it was originally an arcade game: The entire gameplay flow had to be heavily streamlined so you didn't take up the machine for too long.
