Continuing on from on potential problems caused by the spin-offs and trying to connect them with anime.

I just realised that Kazumi also has a huge problem. Towards the end Saki turns into a Witch and she slowly moves on Kazumi who is exhausted and out of power. However Saki, who was in love with Kazumi's predecessor, and possibly even her clones, chooses to kill itself giving Kazumi a free grief seed to cleanse her gem and fight the antagonist of the series.

Now the problem caused by this scene is that it implies that Witches still retain some of their memories and personality after their gem breaks or perhaps if you have a strong enough bond a Witch will temporarily snap out of it and remember. This clashes with the portrayal in the anime. In the anime no matter how much Madoka shouted Oktavia wouldn't stop and surely they had a very strong bond given that MadoSaya had been friends for years. How strong does the bond have to be for a Witch to remember? Do fresh Witches retain at least some trace of their personality and gradually lose it, very fast, with every hour that passes?

Witches still have personality. Octavia personality was that of someone that decided to give up on listening to anything but violin and kill whoever makes the concert stop. It's hard to define how all witches work based in a single one.
I don't know if they retain personalities or make a new one in the moment they're created, but I can see a witch kill herself if she was born from someone that tried to kill herself(Ren).

Remember how Charlotte barrier implied that she would calm down if they gave her cheese?
Something like that works with the other witches, mere insignificant things could defeat a witch without resorting to violence
