There was a lot of talk about why dark souls fans suck at monster hunter but personally, You can't i-frame through attacks in monhun and have to roll away from the hitbox, aside from status effects like roars or tremors. I think its cooler to dodge the actual attack than to just phase through it by cartwheeling. Also it doesn't seem like monster have patterns just telegraphs for certain attacks and they just do fuck whatever

Stay near his head, directly in from of him by about a couple yards is the safest way to bait out attacks that are easy to avoid and leave the biggest openings. When he does them you move directly to the side of his head for a safespot.
The flashpod is a flashbang. If a monster is flying, there's a good chance it'll drop from the sky and be stunned upon impact. Otherwise it just loses sight to you.

Besides the decoration like the other guy said, there's also a charm you can make. It can be upgraded to give you Earplugs 3, and you'd need to get the other 2 points from something else.
