I wouldn't go as far as saying they're unusable, but if a suicide boat is about to hit your backline when you have planes in their air then they will dump their entire load on the boat and completely waste their payload. Then again the same goes for fighters and torpedo bombers can just randomly decide to send their torpedoes down one side of the screen where the enemy isn't and so their whole payload is wasted too. But that's not at all to make CVs as a whole sound like they're worthless since basically all BB damage can be made useless by the retarded AI. Even when playing manually it's very common for BBs to just aim at whatever they feel like after the first shot and start going for a random mass produced ship when there are still 2 human BBs with half their health remaining ready to set the whole backline on fire.

There's literally 1 step to it: when you get your airstrike, hold on for a second to shoot any suicide boats coming your way or wait for it and then shoot it. I know for a fact that at least in the later worlds that suicide boats are programmed to appear at intervals when some of your backline skills are available and also often spawning at the same time as a new wave of enemies so if you pause for a second your whole torpedo salvo (should you use it) will almost always be wasted on hitting a sole suicide boat.

I don't even use CVs anymore, they do shit damage even if they don't get fucked by suicide boats and they can't even shoot back. Only CVLs are useful and only for their passive.

She sucks horribly right now but as much as I love to hate on Laffey myself since she just is so useless, I think her retrofit will at least make her usable. Not usable in the "competitively viable" sense or "close to comparable to the other 2 starter retrofits" or even "debatably good with the right setup." Just usable.
