Everyone on /mhg/ says that, but how? My armor and weapon are up to date, yet I keep carting to this guy's purple balls of death. For reference, I'm using the jaggi/bulldrome mix set and brave gunlance. It's just frustrating, you know? Carting over and over to an enemy. Feels fucking bad, man. I definitely feel you, user. Lavasioth is annoying and bits fairly hard. It spends a good deal of the fight swimming in lava so you can't do shirt, and pips up to lob laser accurate balls of lava at you. If you roll dodge too soon it'll spit one where you are going to end up. If you have a shield it'll spit one just behind you so the splash damage bits you, sets you on fire, and will knock you forward into the next one it spits. It'll swim around making the area it moved through lava, so now you take constant chip damage while trying to melee it. Then the hardening, your weapons will bounce off. You can soften the armor with a torch pod, but once it's broken it won't take crit damage anymore, so eventually you are just plinking away with white damage. And most annoying, when you are fighting it, expect to be attacked from behind by an azure rathalos fireball, uragaan roll, or a bazel bombing run at least twice, often at least once by each monster, with very little area to dodge in since the places it fights in are small and surrounded by lava.

Solo hunt monsters have less health so if you're very good you can do it way faster than in multiplayer. He speaks the truth I ran over most of the content. (except Kirin) with a bow, and did all clear times sub 10 minutes. As soon as I started going online and helping people the times climbed to about 15 minutes, even with what I would consider a decent team. If they didn't triple cart everything.

Depends on which ammo type you want to run with each. Have you tried the basic ones in the training area and have an idea how you want to play them? Normal shots, elemental, shotgun, pierce?

Yeah I haven't ever touched anything yet. So maybe I'll play around with the default ones and get a feel for things before I approach things further like you said. Shotgunning sounds nice though, I can at least say that much.

Nerg has a fun hbg shotgun Odogaron has a fun lbg shotgun I'm told the Jyura is pretty good but I've yet to use it because it uses the base model and I cant be doing with that.
Other fun Hbg's are the Legia Shattercyst for pierce and the Zorah for cluster spam.

I'm at the end of G-rank farming for my final sets and weapons. I've done almost everything in the game except supers. The first time(s) you're fighting a monster (that isn't a Great Jaggi or something obviously) you'll probably get smacked around a bit, there's nothing wrong with that. I think Gore beat me up in 4U when I picked that up after a few years away from the series as well.
