Bitcoin is nothing new. In 1996 there was this thing called e-gold that was the same thing as bitcoin. It ran until 2009 when the feds went and shutdown all e-gold exchanges and the value collapsed. Do others think in another 5 years or so we will see the same thing happening with bitcoin exchanges? I think blockchain technology will survive but people are confusing it with blockchain and bitcoin. They are two separate things. I can see ETHER surviving but not as a currency, it will survive as a blockchain technology firm. Post what you think.

the name sounds like a fucking porn site and the world is literally run online so no

i remember e-gold.
used to use it to sell warcraft golds.

13 years? That means we're good to go for a while longer.

Ya, like I said maybe another 5 years or so until bitcoin turns 13.

No, cause bitcoin is fuckin' decentralized newbie.

we should really have a sticky for threads like these

Just read up on this

Apparently it's value was based on actual gold, it was centralized, and there was no actual "coin" supply like there are with cryptos.

No bitcoin is not 100% decentralized. It is centralized like banks. The exchanges are the bitcoin banks and after the exchanges are shutdown what do you think will happen to the value? The feds went after the e-gold exchanges.

>was the same thing as bitcoin

no-effort troll
1/10

it's just the same conversation all over again, that's why we need a sticky for the newbies

Back in the day e-gold had its own forum
talkgold.com
Mostly hosting scams and shit before everyone moved over to bitcointalk.

>bitcointalk
Ok, so what will happen to the value of bitcoin after the feds shutdown the exchanges?

you mean the same feds that auctioned the seized bitcoins from silk road to Draper?
those feds? my time is valuable, I'm out of this thread, good luck OP.

The bitcoins are not the problem. The exchanges are the money laundering fronts. Without them there will be no value for bitcoin.

>blockchain technology will survive but people are confusing it with blockchain and bitcoin. They are two separate things.
This. Been watching postings of fintech companies developing their own blockchains to do things like compliment/replace infrastructure like wire transfers. They arent piggybacking off bitcoin, they are building their own.

The government is going to shutdown the exchanges after they've already given their tacit approval by selling millions to Tim Draper and with people like Bill Gates talking positively.

not going to*

Hey fuck-face, here to copy paste my reply for the sia thread

You idiot the point of Bitcoin is it can't be shut down. That's like saying I think BitTorrent will collapse like Napster. Ether is a scammy piece of shit riding the blockchain meme. It has no value beyond being a ponzi. And if you honestly think blockchains can be shut down by the feds then ether is literally a thousand times worse for what people want to use it for than existing solutions.

Finally, someone talks truth.

Here's another fun thing that's guaranteed to bring down every altcoin, and maybe BTC and ETH, too:

The sheer number of far right nutjobs and libertarian survivalists who invest in this shit.

Do you really think the FBI isn't closely monitoring what's happening here right now? They know how many idiots with skinhead politics exist on Veeky Forums, and now some of them are getting rich. They're not going to let shy neonazis rake in millions which could potentially fund new far right groups and candidates.

I'm talking about the real government here, not the orange retard Veeky Forums helped elect, who is on his way out very, very soon.

TL;DR: this shit can't last because there are too many extremists investing. Money is power, and hatemongers will not be allowed to have any disproportionate to what a sexist NEET or racist white trash normally should have.

>be racist
>have 200k worth of crypto and climbing

The feds seized e-gold and did the same thing. e-gold is still legal but it has no value because there are no exchanges. The same will happen with bitcoin as well.

Blockchains can't be shutdown, I know BUT the bitcoin blockchain won't be used. Blockchain tech and bitcoin are different animals read my original post. Companies will be using blockchain technology and the bitcoin fags will be like ANOTHER WIN FOR BITCOIN but the reality is they will be using their own internal blockchain.

Fuck you tying Ronnie to skinheads, he was a Saint and Democrst kooks claimed he was going to blow up the world. They're recycling the same shit with Trump in office now too, the Democrat playbook never changes.

Tumblr pls go

They will start to take measures against it only when crypto start to meddle with dolar value.

>people on Veeky Forums/libertarians are political far right extremists

maybe like 1 out of 10,000. The rest of us are just fed up with leftist nonsense and communism. So idk, maybe just kys?

The left is clearly more prone to violence, unless you haven't been paying attention Antifa is founded on political violence.

We just like our guns, our gold, our BTC, our women, and freedom. Now fuck off.

Lol Hilarious; If the FBI is stupid enough not to understand irony then they are plain incompetent.

Your mind has been ruined by the internet.

/Pol/ unironically enabled fake news circulated by Russian trolls to throw the election. That isn't irony or satire. It elected an illegit shitgibbon who's now a menace to the entire civilized world.

>FBI shuts down exchanges for US citizens
>China/Russia holds all the coins and 3rd world people are using it over their currency (Venezuela)

Yes, this will not backfire at all.

I guarantee you're invested in index funds like some other faggot who wanks over them on here, he hated Trump too. Do you realize how much Trump's dreams have pumped up the indices, in a matter of months? Even now, everyone is buying any dip.

> /Pol/ unironically enabled fake news circulated by Russian trolls
>muh Russia
This post was written with an intentionally disingenuous message in order to provoke emotionally charged responses.

gov'ts are impotent; even if they clamp down on them, there will always be some bannana island somewhere giving no fucks, enjoying a piece of the revenue by hosting exchanges

>anime sharing website
>skinheads
sure

there are exchanges now and if they ever are shut down then coinfags will find new ways to exchange crypto and fiat. only way to kill the network is to own it.

i agree partially. they're monitoring it. the public ledger is a gift.
> i fucking use it through tor via vpn from my vm in vm in a vm
won't help to stay anonymous.
Besides the nerds every son of a bitch criminal like cracker, drug dealer, terrorist or if possible worse is using that p2p magic.

be happy about your gains but you should be aware that maybe some day nice grey gentlemen knock on your door. maybe not the fbi but tax guys. in most developed countries cryptos are considered to be a financial asset. so prepare for taxes.

>in most developed countries cryptos are considered to be a financial asset. so prepare for taxes.

I've only been a non-no coiner for the past week, and it's made me do my research. I'm at least consciously aware of Capital Gains tax, for example.

Is there anything else I should prepare for, so at least when I cash out I have enough money for both my Lambo AND Uncle Sam?

And with this post you ruined what was an otherwise good point you brought up earlier.

most retarded post I've ever seen on this board

they've made bitcoin, so its ok... Do you sincerely believe that an anonymous guy alone invented bitcoin ?

Even if they shut down the exchanges there are working dezentralized exchanges now like openledger(this is seriously good and i have no idea why they don't have a million users, i think theyre just shit at pr) and bitsquare.

If they buy up everything, hopefully the networks that allowed bitcoin payment would be diversified to accept whatever at that point. It's ridiculous that you can /just/ pay with bitcoin when there's a million altcoins that would do the job just as good or better.
