Fuck off, not his or even humanities
A stable economy and friction-free environment where the cultures gradually integrate until they blend into the local culture. Otherwise you get ethnic tensions and that leads to situations like the Italian mob in the US or the civil unrest we are experiencing now.
don't let cultural differences become associated with class differences
through nationalism that is based more on history, language, culture etc. instead of ethnicity or religion
Dont have one.
Empire/Kingdom/Federal Republic >>>>>>>> """"""""""'Nation"""""""""""""""State"""""""""""""""
Are we talking about people from newly conquered territories or immigrants?
Either
Forbid their language and customs.
Teach only your language.
Make sure they absolutely need to know your language.
Atheism helps here too because you don't need to convert them to the religion of the majority of your nation.
If they are similar to your nation already emphasize the similarities.
Only teach them history from your nations point of view.
Find a way to disperse them (without violence, so economic intensives, housing market manipulation) into small communities and spread them out through a country, because if they stay close together they'll be better at resting. Do everything you can covertly to make sure they don't lump up.
HOWEVER, allow them all the economic (and other) freedom as all citizens have.
Alternatively if they are a part of another large ethnic group try to make them split from it and create another one.
Gathered from Hungary, Ottomans, Serbia and/or Yugoslavia.
Be careful in some of the parts, do not make them hate you, it needs to be done with an invisible hand, lest you end up like Russia or Germany (or even Hungary).
>tfw the greatest empire in the world handed out citizenship like breath mints
hmmm
Look at this retard.
Everything you've suggested would do more to create friction between people and the nation that wants to integrate them.
We only talk about the times it failed. We don't talk about the success stories, the Romans transforming Gaul or the Conquistadores transforming Mexico.
>lest you end up like
It can work, you just have to be sneaky about it. If done properly it's effective.
Also, how did the Yugoslav Macedonian project fail? Google Skopje, they made a giant statue of Alexander.
And Turkey today consists more of assimilated Balkan converts that Asiatic Turks and Arabs.
>genocidal campaigns
>successful policies of integration
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
genocide can be a policy
So, just maybe, he might be joking?
Assimaltion does not work unless the foreign people have a lot in common
Salad bowl doesn't work unless the host country has no overarching culture
Right, good thing the Spanish and the Mexicans always had a great relationship that lasted throughout history.
After its summit
>no one acknowledges it when the right answer gets posted
I see you, brother
Is letting them stay somewhat autonomous efficient?
Probably assimilation.
I think shared events are a pretty important bonding tool.
No matter how much the vastly different Greek polities fought and shat on each other, at the end of the day they could say
>Remember Troy?
>Yeah good times
Similarly, if a host culture and its subject culture go through a crisis or achieve a glorious accomplishment together, side by side, they will have a much easier time integrating, since that event becomes part of a shared cultural identity in both parties.
