>USSR winning the cold war by going the Chinese rout and remaining communists in name only
>Nazis "win" ww2 by defeating the USSR and try to implement Generalplan Ost but they are unable to control the wast territories in the East. This leads to an economic meltdown and the Reich collapses in on itself after a few years.
>the Holocaust never happens which leads to racism, anti-semitism and eugenic remaining mainstream in the West

Spanish republic doesn't fall for whatever reason, and Herrera Linares becomes president not in exile:

-Astronaut suits figured out 20 years earlier
-Zeppelins don't fall out of favour or not as much
-Spain as an Ally in WW2
-Spain has much better developed air power and transportation
-Spain remains a technological power for 50+ years and into the 80s

You're probably going to get a whole bunch of WWII focused ones, but here you go:
>Germany takes Western Europe
>Immediately invests THE FUCK in France and Spain
>Gives jobs to the French rebuilding their country with French sensibilities to maintain their national sentiment
>Create a bunch of Germany factories in Western Europe to give more good paying jobs
>Basically do whatever it takes to convince the average Western European person that the Germany are their ally and live in occupied territory is not only autonomous but more prosperous
>Publicize the shit out of it and try to convince England not to get pissy, meanwhile continue Genociding Eastern Europe and fortifying it against Russian counter invasion
>Invade Russia, but only enough for them to start a scorched Earth retreat
>Once winter starts, gtfo and take up defenses in occupied Eastern Europe
>Hopefully by then, large portions of the French military will have been won over and are willing to join German Ranks

Basically a history where Hitler wasn't retarded about invading Russia and the London bombing didn't happen, or at least didn't happen as early.

>Carolingian kingdoms don't fall apart and become nation states

>qing dynasty successed into modernization, unite china again and become ally to german in WW2
>Palestinians refused jew refugees
>United Arab Republic is still exist now, become third power between Iran and Arab Saudi
>Rhodesia win the war and still exist, become a turn side point of communism fever

I have always been interested in what would've happened had vikings explored and settled north america more widely. This is how I imagine it but I don't know, I'm probably not taking some stuff into account...

Instead of facing a people with muskets and horses, and a plague doing all their work for them, on the ground, the vikings would've only really had the advantage of low grade steel arms and armor, and organisation, which probably wouldn't compensate for their logistical disadvantage. With that, and native americans not having any real treasure to plunder, and good farming land being the only thing of real value (which is all the poor dindu vikings ever really wanted), I see eventually vikings getting along with most native american tribes. I also think the two cultures are relatively compatible in many of their ways and beliefs. Vikings weren't overly fervent with spreading religion like christians were, and paganism and animism are roughly similar enough that christians called native americans pagans, so I could see the two belief systems merging together eventually.

The vikings probably would've held a headstart on the america's for a while too, they had the ship building and navigation advantage, they have iceland and greenland to use for rest points, and there wasn't a lot of competition ready for such ventures either. the anglo-saxons were busy with each other in britain and then later dealing with the normans, and the HRE was focused on the east and consolidating its own power. Of course with widespread news of the discoveries, goals might have changed, but again, nobody else really had the boats or navigational skills to handle the voyage at the time, and everyone else had more to lose than vikings did by diverting resources to exploration and settling. I don't think the idea of marching into denmark would've been popular, and certainly a norway invasion would've been unfeasible so I believe they would've probably been safe on the homefront.

...

With native americans and vikings on more even terms, and more limited technology, settling would've been slower and allowed the groups to adjust to each other better. Native tribes that weren't already hostile would still clearly see the increasing threat they posed and tribes would've been more willing to cooperate for protection and probably a lot more successfully than they did historically. With more even termed interactions, and cooperation among tribes in protecting each other and getting better deals, there would've been a lot of idea sharing between the groups. I could definitely see tribal confederations growing and causing a boom in technological and cultural advancement to the point they might grow to be on even terms in that regard with vikings.

What I imagine is vikings taking a big chunk of eastern canada, then tribal confederations of friendly tribes forming to protect each other, and get better trade deals, confederations of "hostile" tribes forming to protect each other from the vikings and viking allied confederations, and then confederations spreading across north america to deal with other confederations, as the idea of land ownership and conquest begins to spread. I don't think vikings would've made it much further inland, due to more difficult logistics and native resistance, but I do wonder how far south they might've settled before native preparedness made new settlements untenable, or even if natives could make coastal areas untenable.

What happens after that, I don't know. North america might just turn into Europe 2: electric boogaloo, or be politically isolated from the world and irrelevant until some one like hitler (or hitler) decides to conquer the world.

>original/realistic/interesting
>alternate history

Firstly, one of Terry Pratchett's early sci-fi works - Strata - occurs in a universe where the vikings settled north America first. It really only touches on it obliquely, but I thought you might find it interesting.

Secondly, well, this is the part where I tell you that you're wrong about basically everything.

>Instead of a plague doing all their work for them
Just about all the diseases that wrought such havoc in the Americas when the Spanish brought them over were present in Europe at the time the vikings discovered America. The spread would probably have been slightly slower, since the places the vikings landed were more sparsely populated than central America. But there's no reason to think that the effect wouldn't have been every bit as devastating.

>Vikings weren't overly fervent with spreading religion like christians were,
the Vikings had converted to Christianity by the time they found America (in fact, Leif Erikson converted to Christianity just before he set out on the voyage that would lead him to America, which was in fact supposed to be an evangelising mission to greenland).

>With native americans and vikings on more even terms, and more limited technology, settling would've been slower
it was over a hundred years between the time that Europeans first started visiting North America and the time they started settling it. With the population pressure the norse had at that time, and more importantly the fact that they didn't have any knowledge of the Caribbean and no alternate site for colonies, it's entirely possible that they would have started settling sooner.

> the vikings would've only really had the advantage of low grade steel arms and armor, and organisation
this is the most important point: the biggest technological advantage the vikings would have had was agriculture.

>Carthaginians colonize modern cape town in the 5th century BC. Their colony becomes the center of a large maritime empire of mulattos that trades heavily with India creating a weird indo-afro-punic culture.

>Spartacus takes his men out of Italy and ends up in Britain. He founds a roman style republic where slavery is outlawed. It successfully negotiates an end to the conflict and begins unifying the island when Caesar's civil war begins and succesfuly unites all the tribes into an island-wide republic by 10 BC. It fights 5 wars with the Roman emperors and conquers Hibernia, surviving into the 6th century AD before balkanizing in the face barbarian colonization.

>Chinese explorers in the 1350's manage to cross the Bering strait and establish penal colonies in Alaska. Chinese, Korean and Japanese expeditions establish colonies in modern British Columbia, Washington and California. The colonies are populated by various disaffected groups, under appreciated nobility, criminals and stigmatized minorities seeking a better life. Rebellion eventually takes hold and the various colonies form a confederation against their nobility back home. These colonies are victorious but fragment after the war. They disseminate much technology into the Americas and by the 1520's the aztec empire, southern Maya city-states and plains tribes enjoy a late iron age level of technology thanks to the healthy trade with the Asian colonies.

Industrial revolution in South Song China
Carthage surviving in some way
Alternate migrations in the migration period

Germany Empire and Russia allying and pushing Austria-Hungary's shit in together instead of destroying Europe.

Carthage wins over Rome

Pic related. No WWI because France doesn't have an excuse to intervene if Russia, Germany and Serbia decide to gangbang AH, and couldn't compel the Brit to come in either, thus being totally isolated. Germany and Russia can continue to exist bigger and unopposed. Russian Czar gets to live on riding the back of glorious expansion and not ruining themselves in a war or suffering from Lenin getting shipped back in. USA never become relevant because the Great Powers don't self-destruct, and the world is a better place.

What is it with German boarders, that they always look sexy in those alternate history maps

Bump for Saturday night.

...

>original/realistic/interesting

It's a pretty damn original/realistic/interesting timeline.

...

The south winning the civil war us neither original nor realistic and thus uninteresting (to me).

The Roman Empire, not the Sassanids, fall to the Islamic Invaders.

You got it wrong. The south is labeled a British Dominion, since the British held on to the area during the American Revolution (but lost Canada).

Ah, my mistake then.

>has a 4.6 BYA POD
>has no altered plate tectonics or geography as a result

...

It also has hominids, let alone humans, still evolving and familiar nations forming. It's a more fantastical map.

The Roman Empire did fall to Islamic invaders, it just took seven centuries.

...

Actually it fell to the Communists in Russia

You know what I mean, in the initial Islamic invasion, the Romans get fucked to death rather than the Persians

why the fuck is there a province called rhodesia on this map

Named after Rhodes

Indians never made it to the Americas. The first Europeans arrive to find the place filled with megafauna.

Chinese colonies in California circa 1400

Someone good at writing do something with that

That is all

Louis XVI's brother assassinates Louis in order to become king. To protect himself from people knowing the truth, he decides to install Marie Antoinette as the hated puppet queen scapegoat, while he operates in secret with Calonne to steal art and such from the Palace of Versailles to sell to Britain and THRE (Austria).

These are all great, more pls

>Carthaginians colonize modern cape town in the 5th century BC. Their colony becomes the center of a large maritime empire of mulattos that trades heavily with India creating a weird indo-afro-punic culture.

Interesting.

> Trotsky wins over Stalin, starts to try to export revelution, hitler never takes power Ussr and Japan sign tenuous alliance, ww2 is between an axis ussr, imperial Japan and an allied Europe w/ Germany on the allied side (inb4 streesemen survives)
Or
> German victory out side Armeins leads to fAirer ww1 treaty.
Lastly
> horses survive and are domesticated in the Americas as they are in the old world

John Brown's raid succeeds, leading to guerrilla insurrections all over the Union. Abolitionists and slaves flee to fight against slavery, whilst the country is in total paralysis over what to do.

>leads to fAirer ww1 treaty.
The only thing unfair about versailles is that it wasn't harsher

Que?

Has been done before

So instead of Indians (which came in multiple migrations, not just one), there's a continent of Inuits, Norsemen, Australians, Polynesians, and Basque and Irish fishermen?

Ww2's terms were harsher, no German led ww3 20 years later right? Versailles being too harsh on the germs is a meme. Its problem wasn't that it was too harsh, it's that it was a half measure.

Ensuring German enmity without directly doing anything to stop them in the future.

- the White Ship doesn't sink drowning most of England's nobility
- the Commune of Rome manage to expel the Pope out of Italy for a generation or two at last, kickstarting an early but cruder Renaissance
- the Decembrist Revolt succeeds in Russia, making the Tsarist monarchy into a prime democracy
- Mussolini goes to war against Hitler because of Dollfuss's assassination

USSR wins the Cold War after rampant 80s financial speculation causes an economic depression in the US, Britain, and Japan. NATO countries can no longer afford to stay competitive with the Soviet Union, leading to Soviet military dominance by 1992.

Far left liberals in the vein of Olof Palme nationalize the banks and dissemble NATO. Continued economic uncertainty and Soviet pressures lead to a cadre of Marxist candidates emerging and taking power in most of the West.

Lacking serious American backing, Israel declares an extensive war against Syria and Egypt in hopes of preserving their existence as a state. Iraq lends military assistance to the Arab coalition. Israel makes covert deals with the Iranian government for financial assistance.

China, now the dominant power of the capitalist world, incorporates Latin America and most of Africa into its sphere of influence.

>invade France
>yeah man just peace and love win them over

US would still be super relevant, it was already a Great Power by 1901, it just wasn't a World Power.
The US would still end up quite different today without WWI and especially WWII to catapult it from Great Power to Super Power.

Franco loses the Spanish Civil War.

Okay Pedro

Alot of France was under Viche Regime so as soon as you assimiliated the north into Viche France there would be no reason for the Germans to win over anyone

Was Norse agriculture much more developed than Eastern Woodlands native agriculture?

This is very believable

A non crazy Kim becomes the leader of North Korea, plays along for a few years then to everyone's surprise he declares unconditional surrender (cause legally they are still at war) to South Korea. Would be interested to see how that would play out.

>Steampunk ottomans

Play it out in AoE III

Mostly shit

>Jefferson
>not Deseret

What's hard to believe?

No Mormons in that world

The break up of America and of the Soviet Union would be completely different. The only reason the USSR broke apart is because all of the Republics had the legal right to, while all state secession in America would only happen after a civil war, not a peaceful separation like the Soviets.

These are great ideas to be implemented into a single fantasy world.

His post referred to NATO falling apart not the US itself. A better criticism would be why China would go capitalist when the USSR and Marxism have triumphed in the west. Odds are there would be pressure from the left to reverse any capitalist impulses if they weren't discredited already

>Russia is taken over by the Black Hundreds rather than the Bolsheviks and becomes the birthplace of fascism (though obviously it'd be called something else)
>Italy is the big dog of the Axis rather than Germany (though this would require a point of divergence further back)
>Hohenzollern restoration in Germany, either instead of the Third Reich or after the NSDAP are ousted in a coup
>First French Republic survives (meaning no 'dark age' for republicanism c.1815-1848)
>Britain goes full Jacobin rather than France

Implying communists wouldn't have tqken the initiative.
Plus the marshell plan rebuilt Germany and ww2 was actually started by them.. That isn't to say they would have to some repetitions and cecede most of thier territory, esp colonial places and the Lorraine

Don't forget drunken chinamen.. Or Israelites/ "Africans"

A nuclear accident weakens north kora to reunite w/ south, though China would be pissed in either scenario

I didn't say the US would break up. There's really no reason to believe that would ever happen. America is ethnically diverse, but in nowhere near the same way as the former Soviet Union. In addition, the USSR was way more politically decentralized.

A Soviet victory in the Cold War would put the US in a political situation more similar to Britain after WW2. America would acknowledge that they had lost their hegemony and must work with their old rivals. America would still be able to project power, but only under Soviet auspices.

There'd definitely be a lot of revanchist sentiment at home.

>The runner makes it to the military camp of Hannibal Barca, passing along detailed information of the Carthaginian reinforcements and their precise location
>Reuniting with his brother Hasdrubal, their combined army is larger than the one which crossed the Alps and has the siege equipment necessary to assault Rome directly
>Swatting aside the consular army (which he now outnumbers), Hannibal successfully captures Rome, permanently fragmenting the Italian alliance and irrevocably altering the course of history.
>Sacks the city of Rome: giant black Carthaginian dicks putting babies in the bellies of all the poor innocent white women while killing all the beta males which were the only ones left after Hannibal had butchered all of the Alphas in the field of battle.

Feels bad that we didn't get this :(
