Much more intelligent, better weapons, warrior culture but with shrewd diplomacy, able to barter for guns etc. They didn't exactly succeed but they did ensure they wouldn't be completely eradicated or send of to rot in the middle of nowhere

They were simply smart enough to see that they couldn't win, so they cut their loses and negotiated with the British which made it easier for both parties

You phrase that as if it were a group effort on either side. A lot of settlements had kidnappings of citizens and killings of abos. A lot of trails had ambushes of miners and so on. It was all small scale. The English didn't care to make it systematic and the aboriginals were small terrirorial cells that didn't even interact much with each other.
Some groups weren't touched, found or heard of until well into modern expansion into the NT.

Its William Murderface.

You're missing the most crucial element of all of that. They were unified. They had culture and society. The aboriginals had no chance to broker any deal or wage any war. They were intentionally isolated and it fucked them real hard. It doesn't matter if you meet 10 nice tribes, you'll remember the mean ones best. With the constant probability of violent interaction there could be no systematic approach that didn't at least assume some friction (and hence suscpicion).

Maoris had to be diplomatic sure but what it comes down to is that when they agreed to something they could do so as a collective.
>don't kill us and we'll cooperate
>sure chap
