In terms of why Classical Liberals, honest Socialists, Nationalists, Fascists, and edgelords all share a common cause for now is because western countries are being wrecked in every sense of the word while political freedoms are being curtailed by a ruling elite and a disgracefully bankrupt intelligentsia that doesn't even deserve the name.

They can't distinguish between a few nutjob hard-left bloggers and SJWs and the general political left, meaning there's they've constructed this perception of a left-wing boogeyman who's out after whitey. I'd also say there's a general swing against the upper middle class and their embrace of the left - which does tend to involve fairly esoteric concepts and ideas that don't initially seem intuitively correct (e.g. white privilege), especially if you're from a poorer background.

More simply, people I know who are reactionary just kind of want the world and everything in it to be simple. The idea that complex geopolitical or historical issues might have some depth to them is hard for them to accept, especially when they think things should be just be solved by applying 'common sense', and that university educated people are ivory tower wankers who don't understand the 'real world'. I do blame the left to an extent - it's made itself esoteric and difficult to understand, and rather than try and engage people most proponents of left-wing concepts and ideologies prefer to condescend and dismiss.

They are a reaction to the rise of identity poltics on the left. As the left as organized women and minorities into voting blocks and tried to shame those who do not comply, it was only natural that eventually the right would do the same with the group the left has turned into the bad guy.
