Why didn't the Weimar Republic handle this guy better and keep a watch on him?

Why didn't the Weimar Republic handle this guy better and keep a watch on him?

He literally went from being locked up like a spaz for a failed putsch to being Fuhrer in a decade.

He won a democratic election with overwhelming popular support.

Yes, I know that but why would they allow him the capability to do such a thing any way after is bout in prison?

Couldn't they have gotten rid of him somehow?

Oh and it wasn't overwhelming popular support, thank you very much. He actually lost votes.

> gotten rid of him
That sounds worryingly undemocratic, user.

He had more support than any other party, by a long way. Hence 'overwhelming'.

You are strawmanning the question in the OP, this is not what I am asking.

Kindly fuck off.

> 43.91%
> overwhelming

because Hitler wasn't that bad compared to his competition, at least according to the (((international community))):

youtu.be/WpJjuotD534

> not understanding democracy

What? The Weimar Republic *did* keep an eye on him, and even imprisoned him. What else are they going to do?

Murder him? Nonsense.

...

It wasn't a two party system, user. He was leagues ahead of the second closest.

Hitler was a necessary evil to prevent nuclear war. Having an insane drug addled demagogue at the helm shortened the war. We are living in one of the realities where it didn't happen.

> necessary evil
This is a history board; 'evil' is ahistorical.

>insane
No evidence.

> drug addled
There is evidence for this. But he was physically sick with, among other things, Parkinson's.

>He won a democratic election
do you even know how weimar democracy worked retard?

Evidence.

The election was probably fairer than any recent US election.

Because muh freedumz.

Those were the results 6 days after the Reichstag fire and where they arrested Ernst Thalmann and abused civil liberties granted after the fire to order SS troops to march around and intimidate people and """""""""""""""monitor """"""""""""""" polling stations and voting booths and dis encouraged turnout, and the communist party still managed to get over 12% of votes despite being railed against by the Government as terrorists and their leader imprisoned, and even with the DNVP coalition and abuses they only got like 51% of total votes.

Yes. But even had Hitler won the most seats, it wasn't guaranteed he'd have become chancellor on the terms he wanted. To his credit he was uncompromising and cucks like von papen ended up appointing him chancellor with a majority nazi ministers, which gave him huge leverage

>He literally went from being locked up like a spaz for a failed putsch to being Fuhrer in a decade.
This can actually be also said about Wladimir Lenin and Saddam Hussein, and probably many more dictators. Seems like the moral of the story is that you should shoot your political enemies right away.

woah, lmao

Stalin had an idea. Can't wait till this country goes full Left. Crush dissent.

>I like democracy but only when no right wingers get elected xD

Btw this photo is fake.

>"democratic election"
>The election took place after the Nazi seizure of power of 30 January, when President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Hitler as Chancellor. The latter immediately urged the dissolution of the Reichstag and the calling of new elections. In early February, the Nazis "unleashed a campaign of violence and terror that dwarfed anything seen so far." Storm troopers began attacking trade union and Communist Party (KPD) offices and the homes of left-wingers.[1]:317
>In the second half of February, the violence was extended to the Social Democrats, with gangs of brownshirts breaking up Social Democrat meetings and beating up their speakers and audiences. Issues of Social Democratic newspapers were banned.[1]:318–320 Twenty newspapers of the Centre Party, a party of Catholic Germans, were banned in mid-February for criticizing the new government. Government officials known to be Centre Party supporters were dismissed from their offices, and stormtroopers violently attacked party meetings in Westphalia.[1]:322 Only the Nazis and DNVP were allowed to campaign unmolested.
>Although Hitler could have banned the KPD outright, he opted not to do so. Not only did he fear a violent Communist uprising in the event of a ban, but he also believed the KPD's presence on the ballot could siphon off votes from the Social Democrats. Instead, he opted to simply have Communist functionaries jailed by the thousands. The courts and prosecutors, who had already been hostile to the KPD long before 1933, obligingly took the line that since the Reichstag fire was a Communist plot, KPD membership was an act of treason. As a result, for all intents and purposes the KPD was "outlawed" on the day the Reichstag Fire Decree took effect, and "completely banned" as of the day of the election.

>"overwhelming support"
>33% while banning and attacking opponents

Can we stop this meme?

I never said that, retard.

I am enquiring on the actions of the established order and Weimar Republic and why THEY THEMSELVES decide not to take such measures.

Kindly fuck off if you want to make this political.

> actually believing this
The Communists had caused just as much violence, if not more. The NSDAP were just responding in kind. You can't bring your historical relativism into this.

I've a feeling we will be asking similar questions of the USA shortly.

So? The elections weren't free. The argument is not about whether communists were or not violent. And the violence of the nazis wasn't limited to communists.

It seems like no one answered your question. The real reason for this is simple. The elites were interested in destroying the republic. This is for example the reason why Hitler wasn't jailed for life or killed for his putsch which was practically a high treason. This and the fact that Hitler knew too much about the Bavarian government's preparations for their own putsch.

to be fair, he did return to Austria

Just stop posting. You clearly know nothing about this period. How could the communist be even more violent than the Nazis if by then The Nazis controlled the police, jailed all communist leaders and banned all communist newspapers?

>Adolph Hitler
>ph
why do Murricans always do this

>just enough of the vote to get elected is overwhelming popular support
today I learned

Hitler never won an election in his life.

He ran for President of the Reich twice, against von Hindenburg, and lost both times.

Thanks, I didn't even though about those.

>le trump is hitler maymay
Jews should be more offended by this

What?

Most major political forces around 31-32 were interested in moving away from the republic, this is true. But over the course of those months of political tumult there was absolutely no guarantee that the republic would be replace by a Nazi party autocracy. Right up till the von Papen chancellorship the vast majority of political leaders considered the NSDAP a fringe party joke that would eventually peter out. (And indeed in 1932 there were a lot of signs that were showing the NSAP was losing it's momentum).

For instance, Bruning had a strong mind to degrade and eventually remove the republic in 30-31. But his ideal replacement was a return to a traditional bismarckian monarchy.

>just enough
>more than twice the percentage of the second best
Are you retarded?

Writing Adolph instead of Adolf. I've never seen anyone but Americans do that.

maybe you are American and don't know how true democracies work

>people thought Hitler was a buffoon until he took power

How much of this meme is true?

Because the conservatives all loved him. Judges/politicians/financiers.

It's fairly true, but 'buffoon' is probably not an accurate way of putting it.

Elite political circles considered the Nazi's shallow. They were catchy slogans, powerful aesthetics, and flashy public demonstrations. To them, none of that was a prerequisite for good leadership. To them the Nazi's were juvenile, brash, compulsive, and extremely inexperienced.

In a moment immediately after Hitler's selection as chancellor, von Papen is quoted consoled a worried colleague, "We've engaged him for ourselves. Within two months we will have pushed Hitler so far into a corner that he'll squeak."

I've never seen anyone do that until today

>Because the conservatives all loved him.

This is very, very far from the truth.

Throughout the vast majority of the Weimar years the traditional right wing parties all despised the Nazi's. They only finally came around to him in the end as a form of placation.

To be fair, the Weimar judiciary did have a right wing bias, but that was mainly because they hated the republic more than the hated the Nazi's.

He kind of won an election by getting 37% in 1932, which was a good deal of the reason why he was appointed chancellor.

waggle

Papen and his associates were blind idiots thinking it's still 19th century. I bet he shat his pants during the night of the long knives. All people responsible for his Marburg speech got murdered except him. Lucky bastard.
