People don't give a fuck about freedom or democracy. They care only about a full belly. They think Pinochet single handedly made Chilee the most developed Latin American country. In fact he didn't did much by himself. He just had the sense to let more able men deal the economy and not stand in the way.

That's all they are taught to believe, there is a huge difference. Schools don't teach about the dictatorship because pro Pinochet officials forbid the Ministry of Education to add it in the curriculum, they don't even say dictatorship or regime, they say military government.
If somebody wants to learn about it then it has to be self taught. At least it's easy to get information about it, but it's by no means officially encouraged by state controlled educational institutions in primary and secondary levels.
