ETH is a long-term holding coin, it only goes up from here.

Buy in or get left behind.

That'll be 0.005 btc please.

No one knows. This shit is pretty unpredictable.
Get in before you miss moon missions though!

it's not that unpredictable, bitcoin is very close to crashing again, and it was easily predicted the first time

I would set up an account still, as it takes a long ass time, but btc should crash within the next 2 weeks, being generous with the time frame

it has been consistently dumped the past few days as the fake buy wall creeps closer and closer, I think this crash will be much harder than the first

>2017
>nocoiner

I've set up a Kraken account, anywhere else you'd recommend? I've read quite a few bad things about Coinbase locking peoples accounts and jewing them

>tfw had 0.09728 BTC last year and used it to buy a MS licence key

bittrex and poloniex for trading to alts

I have kraken too, but I just use it to trade into fiat when I cash out monthly. make sure your fiat is wire transferred in already and ready to go, that takes a while. Send a ticket to support to accelerate your tier 3 verification if you haven't already got it.

don't get FOMO'D by the ensuing bitcoin pump, it's going to come down for sure and since you're new I wouldn't recommend trying to time the crash (the majority of this board will get caught in the crash so don't worry about the QQ bitcoin is over FUD you'll see in a week or two)

Good advice (i hope). I've been starting and your post summed up my first 2 weeks well.

I've always been anti coin nocoiner I just signed up today but fuck me it takes forever to get validated. what if everything crashes before I even make a trade

Thanks for your advice user.

i use coinbase to get fiat to crypto, then am just transferring it all to bittrex. Is that a good system to do it?
Also, when i'm ready to turn some gains into fiat, do i send it back to coinbase or to somewhere else? That's the part i'm most confused about honestly.

In just two the days you missed out on bitbean and verge

Couldve been buying lambos

are you trying to day trade? then don't worry about a few dollars here and there. the important thing is to invest in blockchain technology as early as you can.

slowpokes like us deserve to get punished and lose out on all the gains in the first place.

It's spiked almost 30% within a week. I think it's gonna dip again.

Not OP, but seems like an actually helpful thread.
>nocoiner
I want to get into BTC and ETH, and maybe something meme just for shits.

Again, heard shit about coinbase.
Can someone redpill me on what to do? Or cause spoonfeeding is for faggots, point me to some reading material?

What I understand so far is:
>make an account on an exchange
>give them your money (takes a few days)
>buy coins (in my case ETH now, and BTC in a bit)
>download wallet
>transfer coins to wallet
>???
>profit

Gets sketchy towards the end.
I'd love to know:
>alternatives to coinbase
>are wallets even worth it or just store on your exchange account
>would I need 2 wallets (one for ETH and one for BTC)

Thanks in advance.
Been trading normally for years, pretty successfully I might add.
But this shit always just bugs me out. Hard to wrap my head around. I'm not the most tech involved individual.

No OP.
>are you trying to day trade?
No. Long term.
>important thing is to invest in blockchain technology as early as you can
Meaning, but when a coin is new?

that's fine too, as long as you live in the US or somewhere where coinbase supports your fiat currency. I don't know what else coinbase supports aside from BTC-> USD, but I do know coinbase is the biggest 'exchange' in the US as it's very easy to use.

I, for example, live in Canada, and coinbase doesn't support btc-> CAD so I have to use kraken. I know kraken supports USD, CAD, Yen, EUR, and a few other fiat currencies so it's my personal pick.

As a general note for everybody, if it BTC goes sub 1K this crash/dip, instabuy as that'll be as good as you get for timing the bottom, even if it does drop to like 800~ or something lower. Otherwise, just wait for everyone to lose all hope on biz.

>coin is new

no, what does a coin offer?

what niche does it fill?

what technology does it bring to the table?

Where can I go to figure that out?

I started last week. Coinbase was kind of a pain but I think it was mostly on my bank's end. What I did was sign up for a one-time use credit card on a service called Privacy, it gave me a 1k limit on coinbase. From there I bought some ETH and transferred it to poloniex, bought all of the alts I wanted, then transferred them out to local wallets. I prefer to store in local wallets because I don't trust the exchanges, but I think a lot of people here leave their coins in the exchanges for quick access and to avoid transaction fees.

my ETH if this helps you out ;)

>unregulated market

There will always be another crash

biggest alternatives to coinbase: Kraken, Poloniex, Bittrex, Gemini. I believe coinbase also has an affiliate called GDAX that you can link to directly as well.

Poloniex is the biggest actual exchange with a decent amount of alts to day trade into if you want. Bittrex would be second, lower volume but much more coin diversity.

wallets are worth if you are long term and not day trading.

There is always the possibility of your exchange account getting hacked or the exchange going down ala mt. gox, albeit quite unlikely nowadays.

I've been on Veeky Forums for a couple hours, here's what I've gathered:

>sign up for coinbase
>do all verifications for instant btc
>send btc to bittrex
>trade btc for alt coins
>sell alt coins high for btc
>transfer btc back to coinbase (coinbase does't let Canadians sell so make sure your country works first or use a different exchange to sell)
>sell btc for fiat

>hey look the new kid isn't retarded

you'll do just fine here

coinmarketcap>coin>website/announcement

looks good but I wouldn't send to exchanges via BTC nowadays, the fees are too high and congested.

I would recommend LTC or ETH to send to and from coinbase, as you can go directly into fiat from those too.

You of course now need the extra step of transferring from LTC/ETH to BTC once you are at your desired exchange but eh what can you do

Sure, next ETH crash will be five years from now. It's going to crash from $2,500 to $1,500 for a few months then jump back to $2,500.

If I'm not being clear, invest now. Don't wait for this mythical crash to occur before investing. I waited for ETH to crash when it hit $100. It never did and I had to resort to buying in at $160 per coin.

Instead of buying BTC and sending that to the exchange, I'd highy recommend using ETH instead. The transfer is MUCH faster. BTC confirmations are very slow, especially if you're doing a trivial amount (which you will be)

were you afk last weekend or something? it dropped from 200 to like 120~ during the BTC drop

thanks

this is what i've gathered too, glad you summed it up well.

I have 5000 sia, 3000 dgb and 1 eth, with 2 more on the way pending for a few more days. No more btc and i'm capped on sending anymore sadly. Should i start converting my eth into btc to buy more memecoins or keep it as eth and reep that long term gain?

Yeah, I bought before that drop and held throughout.

Thanks for the help user.
>0x4e80c45d45784e43B97B63BC54D389b47C33e1aA
I have no idea what this is.

Nice rundown, thanks.
Why buy on coinbase and not just buy on bittrex/kraken/poloniex? Why even deal with coinbase?

>fiat
Is that a new coin? Or the literal car kek.

Nice. Appreciated.

SO, revised:
>make an account on an coinbase
>do all verifications
>buy ETH
>send ETH to Bittrex/Kraken/poloniex
>trade ETH for alt coins or BTC
>download local wallet
>transfer coins to local wallet
>let set

How am I doing?

nice, thanks for the tips

>Why buy on coinbase and not just buy on bittrex/kraken/poloniex?
i have the same question, it seems like i can't actually buy btc from bittrex. I'm certified and already trading and want more

Whats the best wallet for ETH?

Myetherwallet

The hex chain is his Etherium wallet. He wants you to tip him.

You buy on coinbase first because you can't actually trade fiat, or real currency, such as Dollars or Euros, for Bitcoin on Bittrex or any other exchange. You need to use Coinbase or Kraken to do that. Then you transfer what you purchased to the exchange.

Fiat for me = USD idk where your from but fiat usually means your country's cure.

can i buy from coinmama instead of coinbase?

Yeah.

Pretty much, if you're just getting in, use whatever will verify you the quickest

I don't personally use coinbase, I buy directly on Kraken. I don't think Polo deals with fiat (your countries currency).

Coinbase is popular because it is extremely easy to use and lets you get started really fast with smaller amounts (100-250$ USD/week). Ease of use means coinbase is very popular.

Kraken is a longer process involving wire transfers and such, but necessary if you want any significant amount in.

>He wants you to tip him.
kek
So, what's best right now, I guess for verification?
coinbase, coinmama, or kracken?
I'd like to use my credit card to buy the coins if possible.

So if BTC dips down hard does that mean all the other alt coins also dip or do theh rise in value in relation to BTC?

Noob Question.

Why is there such a disparity in the prices?

On the left is ethereumprice.org/btc/ (this only tells you the price)
And on the right its btcc.com

Coinbase sounds like cancer from my research. They're too intrusive

Coinmama has slightly higher fees, but are very lax in regards to the verification

Kraken is requires robust verification like Coinbase, but doesn't seem to be as cancer

I"m personally going with Coinmama in order to get in on this game

Never heard the term, thanks.

great info

>Coinmama
>slightly higer
>"The price you see on our website is Coinmama's bitcoin rate and includes our fee of 8.45%"

8.45%, fuck me.

So, sounds like use fiat on Kraken. Or bite the bullet with coinbase?

And that doesn't include the credit card processing fees, so you're looking at 13.45%.

Nevermind, won't be using coinmama. Goddamn, everything requires verification these days.

Holy balls, so credit card is out. What's really the best way to exchange fiat for coin?

Cryptocurrency is trash, all altcoin chains can be 51%'d and will be once market caps are large enough to warrant a large-scale attack. Your wallet can be stolen by malware, the bitcoind client has had countless severe vulns (don't get me started on altcoin clients)

Just invest like a normal person where you have a means of recourse when (not if) your funds are stolen.

>13.45%

Wow, this is the most blatant FUD by a nocoiner I've ever seen.

last chance to turn your alts and btc to usdt. you've been warned.

This is depressing. I'm trying to upload 3 pictures of my documents to get verified so I can start trading but my nigger ISP won't let me upload anything over 100kb without their upload server timing out.
Fuck this shit.

It's crashing RIGHT NOW.

>3 pictures of my documents to get verified
Can you explain this? What documents and uploading to where?

Why do people constantly ask this? if you haven't already put your money into crypto I doubt you have balls to buy in dips, look at ETH at this very moment, -8% are you going to go drop 10k in now? no because you're a pussy bitch. Thats why you will never make it. Keep watching from the sidelines no coiners.

>coinbase doesn't let canadians sell

...is this the truth? How am I gonna cash my GAINZ?

>start verification process on Kraken yesterday
>still nothing today
REEEE WORK FASTER, I'M MISSING ALL THE ROCKETS

Last chance to remain poor is what you mean

kys weak-handed crybaby nocoiner pussy

Bitstamp.net.
They need 2 pictures of my Identification (front and back) - I'm using my Drivers license
And proof of nationality (recent bank statement)

Transfer it to an external wallet?

I'm an penetration tester by trade and have my OSCE, GXPN, and CISSP certifications, among others. I have over 14 years of experience in just about every walk of bypassing security. I've co-authored projects that have been presented on at both RSA, Blackhat, and Defcon. Trust me when I say that I know exactly what I'm talking about.

I myself have even used sybil attacks on a small scale to manipulate bittorrent trackers to serve malware in targeted campaigns. I analyze emerging strains of malware routinely and I'd say about 4/10 strains of every malware sample I've tested in the last 2 years check for the presence of a bitcoin wallet file (the first step to stealing it). Running bitcoind and other wallet programs means you're just waiting to be hacked... if you're not behind a NAT or Firewall, you'd be lucky to go 45 minutes without being infected via a RCE in your shitty-startup-programmer-certified(tm) client.

When your bitcoins are stolen, they are gone, period. No exceptions at all.

Cryptocurrency also fuels cybercrime at an unprecedented level because unlike online casino currency and video game currency, there is no real identity or connection information ever available to any centralized group.

Cybercrimes in turn, fuel traditional eastern european organized crime groups, which engage in reprehensible activities like kidnapping, rape, extortion, terrorism, and murder.

Cryptocurrency helps make that happen in a way no other form of currency on earth can do. When you invest in cryptocurrency, you're investing in kidnapping, child rape, extortion, terrorism, and murder.

If you're not a criminal, you have nothing to hide as far as your FIAT payment processor is concerned. Just buy a prepaid debit and use a VPN. If that's not good enough for you, the only people who are coming after you are FBI/Interpol/other LEO, and that's because you're some sick fuck who buys CP or some shit.

There is far more money to be made in traditional FIAT exchanges.

>what the fuck did you just say to me, you little bitch?

More money in FIAT exchanges, huh? Tell that to those making 2-10x their investment in a few months, sometimes even in weeks.

is this Veeky Forums's version of the navy seal copypasta?

NICE TRY TERRORIST, TO GTMO

Where there is potential for 1000% gains in weeks, there is potential for 90% loss in days. Cryptocurrency isn't immune to economics.
Might as well go play $100-bill slot machines or buy a few hundred lotto tickets while you're at it!

This is better than a goddamn lottery!

What else can I say be no risk = no rewards

I see no lambos in your future

Get in, make a profit, cash out.
No need to invest more than $500 at a time to make decent money as a side investment.
I'm sure you spend more than that on burgers each month anyway.

Why a local wallet and not a hardware wallet? Wouldn't that be safer?

how is bitstamp?
and what, drivers license, for real? that safe?

2nd this

Investing in general is a gamble. Might as well gamble in the most bullish market and make millions.

You're right about no lambos, I own a 2014 mclaren 12c. Paid in full. Wouldn't want to downgrade to something more fat and less fast.

If you're only going in $500 at a time, I guess that's not entirely unrespectable. Most cryptofags are as bad as the retards on /r/wallstreetbets and -will- lose their life savings sooner or later.

A wallet is just a private key which is just a string.
A "hardware wallet" is just a fancy USB that stores the string.

Just fucking do it

Gonna be at least a week for tier 1. I've been waiting about 3 days since for tier 2.

It has the best rates/fees as far as I can see. I am not verified as yet so I can't tell you what the whole deposit/withdrawal process is like but it seems pretty simple.
Cons: You're limited to trading Bitcoins (for USD or EUR) and Ripple, basically.

How long does it, typically, take for BTC to transfer from Coinbase to Poloniex?
I have been lurking for a few weeks, and figured I would give my first shot at it.
Following from everyone's advice (or, not since coinbase seems to be shit in most people's eyes), I bought some BTC from coinbase, got the Bitcoin deposit address from Poloniex, and copy/pasted it into the Coinbase website to send my BTC to, said it was completed, and has been over 30 mins and nothing is showing up in my Poloniex "Balances, Deposits, and Withdrawals" page. Did I get Jew'd?

By the way, cex.io has the easiest verification. All you need is a credit card.
But prepare to be bent over and fucked by the costs, because 1 bitcoin costs $3,019. lmao

>eastern europeans
>terrorism

I'm a Canadian and I use quadrigacx and coinsquare. Both Canadian. And with coinsquare you can send funds with interac e-transfer which is nice.

>don't get FOMO'D by the ensuing bitcoin pump, it's going to come down for sure

Bitcoin grew by 5% in value over the past 24 hours (according to Poloniex). All I need to know is;

1: Is it safe to drop a $100 bill on BTC for a few days, soak up some interest, and sell it after a week or two?

2: Is there a specific date when BTC is expected to plummet or am I save buying and holding for a week or two?

albania.. kosovo.. bosnia

Don't wait too long mate. I'm up £750 in just 3 days due to buying it when I did. I was convinced it would go lower at the time but it didn't.

Had I waited, It would be no-where near that. It goes up, up, up over time.

Yeah Gemini is nice and has a high bank transfer limit.

LOL you think this bitcoin surge is going to last a week? you truly are new. It's already been surging for days now. A correction/stabilization is eminent in the next few hours/days

What is this bullshit?

I've never tried to add a payment method. I registered like yesterday and just now decided to get some bitcoin

>LOL you think this bitcoin surge is going to last a week
Yes. Fight me.

Its all crashing right now BUY BUY BUY

Buy ETH right fucking now.

>coinbase doesn't sell to australia
>kraken doesn't sell to australia
wew

help please

Where else can I get some bitcoin right now? I wanna start ASAP. Coinbase is fucking with me for whatever reason

well, here's the bitcoin pump right now

I believe the dump will happen on the weekend given past history so ready your bank accounts

coinjar ya nub
