Read the Gulag Archipelago

Read the Gulag Archipelago.

Make me

"Sort yourself out, kid"

I mean I might read it and take it as some sort of, uh, MICROexample

Why? I already read Koestler and Kravchenko.

>The Russian Revolution was done by Da Joos
t. Soltzynytzyhyn

Its a collection of cherry picked urban myths.
I believe some of it is true, but thats BELIEF, not knowledge. There are no facts in there, only stories.
If this book was a Wikipedia article it would get deleted for bias and [Citation Needed] epidemic.

>reading propaganda

But our propaganda is true, only the political enemy's propaganda is false! Don't you know anything?

i started reading it cuz of him. about 30 hours in, 50 hours to go. holy fuck what a shit hole russia was. the worst stories are the ones of the engineers and scientists getting fucked because the soviets are too fucking dumb to make ration economic decisions.

Go pander to /pol/ elswhere

>holy fuck this is unbelievable!
>but it must be true, because it was printed, and a man on youtube likes it

What the fuck are you going on about, he barely mentions jews in the entire thing. I read Gulag about 2 months ago.

Peterson's right, people cannot imagine how quickly and just how bad things can get under communism. I mean you ask the average person how bad things would get if our government turned into a totalitarian regime and they aren't even in the bloody ballpark

the book was written by a jew and i dont even think he ever says the word jew more than twice in the whole book

>everything they said about the nazis was true
>everything they said about the commies was false

I want you tankie fucking retards to fuck off

wait, are you saying that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was a jew? He was not a jew. Go back to /pol/

Stalin did nothing wrong you anglo fag

Isn't that more /pol/'s racket tho?

What would it take for a man like him to start tossing commies out of helicopters?

>tfw you try to redpill your normie students but they just get butthurt at you because you didnt refer to them by their made up egotistical meme persona and gender

I will be honest, Jordan Peterson will probably be the most influential thinker/philosopher of the 21st century. I am really happy this whole U of T controversy happened, because if it didn't, me and countless other people would not discover him and his channel. He legit made me a thinker, as of a philosophical and theoretical standpoint, making me looking at everything with multiple views from many angles. I rarely could see and understand a situation from multiple sides before that, even if I knew I was wrong and I really tried to understand what is how, and why. I can't really explain it, as English is not my first language, but Jordan Peterson helped me "unlock" something in me, as like everything suddenly went from chaos to order, where I could see clearly my next moves in life. I never had that before that, only a black mist in front of me where I couldn't navigate and make a path for myself. I will always be grateful for that to JP.

Same friend.

I will be talking about him for the rest of my life. The man has made himself a legend.

the genre of "Gulag Archipelago”, as determined by Solzhenitsyn himself, “imaginative study”, in other words "fiction study"

commies and nazis both do it and its stupid in both cases
>Stalin didn't kill literally 1/3 of the population of the USSR, so he didn't kill anybody and all the people he killed deserved it anyway
>see this picture of German soldiers committing war crimes that no one has ever used as proof of the Holocaust? Well it's fake, so the Holocaust never happened

>40 years later, you're still triggering commies and liberals

How can one man be so based?

this is probably ironic but i agree

you dumbass im calling him a jew because the man who wrote the book is a jew

>pol maymay

im not implying him being jewish is a bad thing

probably not the biggest, but he is as big as Campbell before him. We can say "Jung, then Campbell, then Peterson" quite confidently.

No, it's not. I mean it. It just reads like that of my language restrictions, but I tried as best as I could to type my thoughts as coherently as I could.
But, yeah, I was worried I would sound edgy and cliche here.

The problem with Peterson is that he hasn't ever had an original thought. He's a good professor, as in he teaches the ideas of other people, but not his own thinker.

Most of the Bolsheviks were Jewish though

...

>not being a genocide denier and dictator apologist

Were do you think you are, user?

Soltzynytzyhyn was a dissident during wartime, he would have been shot for that in Britain. He got off pretty lightly

>tfw you finally reach a place where meaning shines through between order and chaos but then you make a series of bad life choices and fail to speak your truth so you fall back into the underworld

>Natalya Reshetovskaya, the wife of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, said in her memoirs that The Gulag Archipelago was based on "campfire folklore" as opposed to objective fact.

Soviet Union was a totalitarian shithole. Communism practiced by them was a pathetic joke. This isn't anything shocking.

I like Solzhenyitzin for exposing Soviet system to the world but i have little respect for his glorifying of Russian Empire (which was equally a corrupt autocratic state as USSR). He was also extremely hypocritical when he decided to suck off Putin, a former KGB agent who applied the same methods of former Soviet system in his own rule, only under the mask of Russian patriotism. Modern Russians are free as they were in USSR.

>which was equally a corrupt autocratic state as USSR

Yeah no. They didn't operate death camps.

You don't know shit.

Actually they did, and far more than Germany

And to another point, most of the "Holocaust" pictures you see are actually images from the Gulags. Btw I'm not holocaust denying, just pointing something out

They also sent political prisoners to Siberia in Imperial Russia.

Pseudo-intellectuals

What did I say that was wrong

He teaches a class based around a book he wrote himself

>Jordan Peterson made me an intelleckshual
This shit is too funny to be real.

He seems sincere, sadly.

Did you became enlightened while being in your mothers womb? Way to go philosophical hipster, keep shitting on people who found out something great in their lives.

Fuck off pseud.

I didn't expect any normal response or discussions from idiots like you anyways.

Simply.

F*ckin'.

Ebin.

>And to another point, most of the "Holocaust" pictures you see are actually images from the Gulags.

And most of the Holodomor pictures are from the Civil war and in some cases The Great Depression.

Nothing he says is as profound as you are all making it out to be, it amounts to "the far-left is irrational".

>making me looking at everything with multiple views from many angles
please expand on this baseless platitude

The book is a collection of other people's ideas.

Read in the late 80's. Re-read the 2010 Russian edition two years ago.
Have also read the Red Wheel, including the rewritten version of August 1914, in which Solzenitsyn gets to praise his hero that is Stolypin.
Well, I've read all works of Solzenitsyn really, of course the 'Two hundred years together', which doesn't really offer any new info on Jewish participation in the revolutionary groups of Russia (Jewish historians like Jonathan Frankel had already done this before Solzenitsyn wrote his history).

I really like Solzenitsyn's prose, even more so than Dostojevski's. Also like the fact that Solzenitsyn doesn't left his opinion on Tolstoi unclear (comes evident in the Arhipelag GULag already).

It's quite funny really that Solzenitsyn wrote a oral history of the camps, without access to any archival information and yet it has all the same information that Applebaum managed to gather in his 'GULag: History of the Soviet concentration camps'. The real difference being that Applebaum 'fails' to mention prominent Jews in the Bolsheviks or that Kiev Cheka-GP's security men 75% were Jews and that they did the practical part of the hunger-genocide of Ukrainians, in which more Ukrainian peasant were killed than Jews killed by National Socialists.

If that's all you get out of all the things he talks about then I'm really really sorry for you

He could read Maps of Reading or his other works and do some research instead of watching JP vids for several minutes. I will not even start explain, as it will make a big essay of things I want to say.

lol, what I meant was that I find funny that the guy became interested in philosophy only after watching the youtube channel of an anti-sjw meme professor. Not interest in arts, sciences, religion... it took a youtube pwnage video to make him interested in philosophy. That and that he claimed he was the single most influential philosopher of the 21st century.

I've recently been connecting with my grandparents and my brothers after feeling inspiration from his talks. Feels good.

Where the fuck is the Sam Harris discussion part two? The way JP retreated back to his own channel and posted that open letter was kind of a cheap move too since he knew he could just throw out his convoluted view of the world and then say "can't you see any connection?" with Harris not being able to just respond immediately. Instead his fans just worshipped him in the comments. I love the guy but I didn't like that. Would kind of turn me off if I was Sam Harris to having another discussion.

I find him and his ideas very interesting, but I really really wish he'd stop saying things like "there's a reason why the JK Rowling books are so popular, she got the archetypes right" when there's so much trash out there that makes millions too, in fact he even thinks Frozen is just pure propaganda so already there he's contradicting himself. That's his biggest weakness I think, he rambles and rambles on and on and goes on so many detours instead of sticking to the point. What he would need is, for isntance, for his archetypal idea to stand, is to start really weaving together all these different myths and finding the pattern within them. Not just take the Buddha, genesis and the Horus and Osiris story and just leave it there. Because I don't see anthing in this facet of his work which could not be done in some scientific sense.
He mentioned once that the danger of what he's doing is to fall into confirmation bias, but then proceeds to, in what I feel, to ignore that entirely and just ramble about the slightest connection he perceives.

I never said he is the single most influential philosopher of the 21st century, I said he has the potential to be because he is the first one who addressed a huge problem ongoing in western society, which people were afraid to talk/discuss about before he brought it out. He is the scapegoat everyone needed, and he knows that and use that to his advantage. And from all the ideologies and philosophers I read books about, probably only his views "clicked" with me. It's not just because he became massively popular in the last several months and agreeing with him is so "in" right now.

Yeah, an "imprisonment" so harsh Stalin ran off 7 times.
Russian Empire was a clumsy bear, not a brutal monster that USSR was.
Do you know how many people were hanged in the aftermath of 1905 revolution? Around 2000. That was a quiet day during Stalin's purges.

Isn't it just a big myth that the USSR was brutal

have you seen any of his lectures? anti-totalitarianism is about 1/30th of his actual thought, and anti-marxism is a bug on the windshield

lmfao

the far left is irrational though

Hardly a myth

USSR was like 2nd most brutal regime Europe saw since 30y war.

>over 70 years later and people still fall for the judeo-bolshevik meme
it's not just literal nazi propaganda, it's goddamn fake
people from the baltics were more overrepresented than the jews, I don't see anyone blaming Estonians for anything

whats the first if you don't mind me asking?

Lichtenstein under Franz the first

A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich wasn't that bad

Is it true that life was better living in Nazi Germany vs. USSR?

Yes, Hitler did not have enough time to ruin Germany that much.

depends for who. I hear jews did not have such a cushy life in nazi germany but volga germans were not living the high life in the soviet union either

Jews didn't had it exactely cushy in Russia either. Especially once Beria was ended and USSR took a stance against Israel.

USSR was just as equally anti-semetic than Nazi Germany

Depends on the time period

He's some fucking idiot with a patreon account, how in the hell is he "influential"? Jesus you anti-SJWers really are as delusional as SJWs.

>inb4 someone posts THAT image

>how in the hell is he "influential"?

because of how hot and bothered he makes you SJWs.

THAT image?

isn't he a professor

>calmly explain that its fiction, as the author himself admits
>LOL U TRIGRD

Lad...

>I will be honest, Jordan Peterson will probably be the most influential thinker/philosopher of the 21st century.

What the fuck. Seriously, what the fuck. He has ZERO new ideas. He isn't even collecting ideas from diverse sources, he's basically reciting Jung.

>clinical psychologist
>taught psychology at Harvard
>currently teaching psychology at UoT

Yeah, just a fucking idiot with a patreon account. If you would even TRY to understand and learn things you might get ahead every now and then...

influence isn't based on new ideas

Derrida had new ideas and it was fucking disastorous

>he's basically reciting Jung

Don't forget a few lesser known guys like Freud, Piaget, Orwell, Huxley, Eliade, Solzhenitsyn, Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, John Milton.... just to name a few

his idea of behavioural truth, though inspired by Campbell is kind of his own though, right?

Its also stupid.

There's a huge media campaign against Soljenitsyn in Russia and it's obviously supported by the authorities.

>Implying that he's a fascist because he hates commies

Nice ebin though

How does it feel to be high on your own farts?
