Convince me why I should invest in this. I've attempted to research it and the only thing I've found is that it has "an active community" and is "unique". My decision needs to be based on specifics like what this actually is which I can't find (not even on their own website). It just seems like another scamcoin to me.

For now, its still in alpha, so finding specifics should be difficult, but the main features of this coin are websites on the blockchain and encoded messaging. As an aside they also plan to run other apps on the chain and have sidechains. How the latter works I am ignorant of, but that's just something for me to find out on my own time.

There seems to be some master node tech coming soon, not sure what that does though

It's going to be used to store the websites, it will make the wallets lighter since noone will need to download the blockchain except the node holders.

The best way I describe ESP2 is that it's a 1000 sat coin (in terms of the dedication of the dev team, the size of the community, the features of the coin itself) that's just kind of been hiding under the radar.
