What does being a "progressive" actually mean...

What does being a "progressive" actually mean? When a progressive accomplishes all of his goals and wishes to maintain them does he turn into a conservative? What will be considered progressive 100 years from today?

"""Progressive""" is a meaningless buzzword invented to make liberal policies seem inherently good since how can """PROGRESS""" be bad????

>meaningless buzzword

the term is over 100 years old kiddo

Age doesn't give something validity. Freudian psychology, for example, is also roughly 100 years old but is widely discredited in almost every aspect by credible and respectable members of that discipline.

no it does not give it validity, but the fact that it has been in use for that long makes it not a 'meaningless buzzword". its age also predates the modern political definition of liberal politics, making that post completely incorrect and worthy of mockery

and it was a meaningless buzzword back then too
Progress is a meaningless word. People label things as progressive without knowing what they're progressing towards. Every action can be viewed as progressive. Me getting out of bed is progressive, it's progress towards something.

What makes you think these two things are mutually exclusive?

Is it not correct to equate """progressive""" in the current year (2017) to """liberal"""? WHen one says progressive, at least here in the states, they are undoubtedly talking about socialist policy, pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, etc. Liberal=progressive. Calling liberal policy progressive tricks brainlets into believing liberal policy is always positive.

by this logic 'democrat", "republican", and every other political identifier are "meaningless buzzwords" because they dont contain a full breakdown of the political platform in the name.

It survive a test of time. Meanigless terms die fast.

It's an artificial meaning though. Progress is quite literally everything but the political term 'progressive' refers to a specific set of liberal policies.

>socialist policy
Doubt it. Could you be confusing socialism and social democracy?

But a democrat is someone who advocates for democracy while a republican advocates for a republic. Progressiveness is neither a system of governance nor an ideology.

Progress will never end. It's the purpose of our life here.

Social democracy is just socialism achieved through parliamentary means. Birds of a feather.

As far as I can tell, it's to suggest that you're part of an ideology that believes in such a thing as societal progress, which implies some sort of end goal for society. Liberals and Marxists both fit the description by virtue of both believing that society is progressing towards certain things (increased liberty or communism, respectively).

workers control the means of production = socialism
welfare n shit in a democratic framework = social democracy

Not that guy, but socialism is an old term that refers to a broad range of ideologies. It's not a specific societal model except in Marxism. Socialism initially just referred to any ideology concerned primarily with the problems of the labouring class and how to resolve them; social democrats were a subset of this.

The only progressivism that truly never becomes conservatism is Futurism.

Conservashits are still talking about rolling things like social security or minimum wage back in current year, the only way progressives of today are different from the ones of a hundred years ago is that they are shilling for trannies and multiculturalism.

Says who, though? Why should a meaningless term not survive due to its flexibility and breadth of application where a more precise and defined term quickly die because the exact context for its use is no longer relevant?

It is the empty space which makes the bowl useful.

>What will be considered progressive 100 years from today?
Better working conditions for the conscious robots.

Some progressives adopt the new progressive ideas, others decide to mostly retire from social activism, others become conservative.

Robots do not have consciousness they only have a simulated appearance of one REEEEEEE

It means you want progress.

just like all humans except for me am i right

How can you tell the difference?

When a progressive accomplishes all his goals, then they become old and die off. Next generation of progressive takes their place.

Being a mindless moralfag.
