If God created humans (and all other life), then why do we develop cancer? It's literally a glitch in the cell reproduction algorithm. Some animals don't get cancer as often or don't get it at all. So God, an omnipotent being, was capable of designing a human body that didn't develop cancer, being omniscient, he would have known of a way to do it, and would know he was capable of doing it. If God exists he clearly wanted people to develop cancer. How do you explain that without God being a grade-A prick?
If God created humans (and all other life), then why do we develop cancer...
Why do animals sleep?
We evolved to survive and mate, basically. If there was an omnipotent, good-willing god we would be perfect (but again, is there perfection?), but there is no proof of such a thing.
They will says it's because of the fall. Death and disease entered the world after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit.
Then you will answer, what about the fossil record showing that death was around before humans even existed?
At this point they will split in two groups.
A: the fall is a metaphor.
B: fossils, evolution, dating methods and science in general etc. are a hoax and the bible is literally correct.
If you ask group A what parts are metaphor and what parts are not, and what are they metaphors of, they will provide a quote from x theologian that is not rally authoritative or binding in any sense, and will stop responding and will leave the thread while group B does the talking.
Group B will show dinosaur cartoons and endlessly rant that science is wrong and all scientists are out to be them, until you're grow bored and the thread dies.
Really* binding
Out to get* them
To be fair, God didn't make the man made items that can cause cancer or add chemicals to the food and beverages we consume which also contribute. We're all not exactly living in a way we lived upon our inception. I'm sure the cancer rates among the few isolated tribes in the world are zero if not maybe a few just because of skin cancer.
>people from before didn't get cancer
www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGOl9IDA3zk
you have a flawed view of god. God is just the creator. He doesn't have to be some bearded old man in the sky hanging out with Jesus.
To me (cultural catholic) god is the creator of everything. The original force that started everything. He is beyond our understanding.
I'm not even conviced he cares about us at all. There is no evidence to prove god cares about us enough to meddle in our affairs much less cure our diseases or help us.
New International Version
I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."
your point?
Fair enough, but that's not the Christian view. That's called deism.
Yeah I'm sure it happened just at not nearly the same rate as now due to the chemical exposure we're around now either in an industrial sense or the food we consume. Is there any information on cancer rates before the industrial revolution or throughout history in general? If you're a believer in freewill, that say God created us what happens next is up to us, whose to say someone who developed cancer back then exposed themselves to something that accelerated their potential to have cancer?
You really should be asking why God made us unable to digest our own food in the first place and rely on other life to do it for us
New International Version
For it doesn't go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
>then why do we develop cancer?
Just because? Also suffering has always been allowed.
your right but do you think that the Christians have it right?
if they did there wouldn't be so many denominations
fuck off you faggot you aren't making any arguments
either make a statement or fuck off we aren't here to read the bible but to discuss it
2 Why do the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
3 Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.
4 But their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
6 They have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell.
7 They have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but cannot walk,
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
8 Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
No, I don't think they got it right.
That settles it then!
then don't make the mistake of disregarding ideas that don't agree with the Christian perspective of god
The fall means that the soul of men chose to endure hardship and sin and leave the everblessing grace of God, Adam and Eve is clearly an allegory of that
That wasn't my intention. I was just clearing it up.
That is the Origenist position and is considered a heresy by orthodox Christianity.
Not saying I agree or disagree though.
New International Version
Jesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
Cancer was named by ancient greeks, so it certainly isn't solely caused by modern lifestyle. So claiming "cancer didn't exist except skin cancer" is demonstrably bullshit. And while modern lifestyle may do a lot to contribute to cancer rates, so does life expectancy since older people have higher risk of developing cancer. If a healthy adult could expect to live into their sixties in ancient times, in modern times unless they have pre-existing condition like obesity, the average person who survives their childhood will on average live to their eighties.
GMOs, plastics, etc
Maybe God is the cancer.
Sorry OP the religion you're atheist of isnt available, however I'll tell you that it makes perfect sense that shit happens since the creator is evil and not a god.
good, well yeah just remember that Christians are probably wrong about God just like every religion but it they all hold some important truths
>If God created humans (and all other life), then why do we develop cancer?
Why don't you ask God itself?
Do you think that a being with, orders of magnitude stronger, a developed delay pleasure response would see things differently?
>But the priests
Humans have always been, and are, enormous faggots who prefer displaying solutions to global problem spaces as opposed to getting mastery in a local problemspace.
>atheist enters thread
>says thing that only applies to monotheistic simply structured religions
>thinks he proved a point
Well, we are waiting user, how do you deal with religions where the creator is evil and we do spiritual exercises to both escape said creator and earn afterlife or even current life boons?
>says things things that only applies to monotheistic simply structured religions
>thinks he proved a point
what?
Cancer was much less common before industrialization
Yes, not all religions are like christianity, some have an evil creator
yeah but those religions serve a different perpose and have different creation storys but some elements of every religion contain some knowledge they wish to spread. That doesn't mean all religions are good as Christianity some are downright shitty but I think that has more to do with the followers then the religion itself.
God is actually an ineffable prime force beyond time and space who's characteristics are impossible for humans to ever determine. By sheer coincidence God wants everyone on earth to obey the ancient superstitions of this specific tribe from 3,000 years ago. I know this because of a series of dreams that occurred to me when I was in a deep trance, which is the only way for any mortal being to achieve Verifiable True Knowledge. If you disagree with me you are literally evil incarnate.
because the god of the bible is an asshole and a false god
>Why didn't God tailor exist precisely to my personal comfort waaaaah!
Go cry to Eve about it faggot.
You lack the basic understanding of what it is to be God
According to Christianity, we were once perfect and Revelation 21 says that "God will wipe out every tear and that pain, sorrow and death will be no more"
But that's just the Christian view
wtf
Gnosticism
Good point.
Breaking the conditioning!
I read a paper recently that said its to do with the brain flushing out toxins and regenerating its system
God doesn't have to make you perfect or make you unable to suffer. God is infinitely more powerful, knowing and bigger than you will ever be. If he wants to, he could give cancer to everyone on this world.
this thread reeks of fedora
Perhaps the perfection is found within the ability to incorporate mutations and change. Assuming that our environment is not static, there would need to be a dynamic organism able to adapt to be considered perfect. Thus, creating a static, perfect organism is impossible, but creating one that can change and survive in new environments could be.
This statement is complete nonsense and doesn't hold anything of value to anyone.
we are made up of millions of cells, yet you dispute the little bacteria inside our stomachs, its all us you retard, weather its a cell or a bacteria
Nice human genome there in those little Enterobacter. Maybe they'll go with me to heaven with my soul.
What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Of course it's clean. I'm saying that God gave us the inability to uptake nutrients by ourselves despite being his most precious creation.
>We evolved
Nice fantasy you got there, atheist. Sorry to burst your delusional bubble, but we did not "evolve" from monkeys. We were made in the image of God.
To answer OP's question, we live in a fallen world. The Flood not only changed the earth's landscape and ecosystem, it also reduced our lifespans.
God is defined as good, moreover the definition of good is anything God approves of or does. Which means giving people cancer is good (at least wgen God does it).
God have child and wife.?
Christianity is stupid.
Because they get tired
source?
