Redpill me on Joan of Arc

Veeky Forums, redpill me on Joan of Arc.

Know nothing about her except

>was from France
>was a soldier, I think
>got burned at the steak

Was she based, or overrated cause she has a vagina.

bump

She was Orthodox
She was a Prophet
She was a Saint

She was actually a competent military commander.
Boudicca, on the other hand, is completely overrated and her only achievement was getting butthurt and getting her people massacred while not achieving anything.

Brits did nothing wrong when they grilled her desu.

She was competent. But she also did fucked up shit like her second in command raping and killing kids while she knew and kept him around.

But she isn't overrated like some other women """""""""warriors""""""". At least she did shit.

The most famous cheerleader of all time

Oh, and his name was Gilles de Rais if you were curious about the sick fuckery he was up to.

[spoilers]yes[/spoilers]

glorified cheerleader

She was definitely brave considering she was always in the thick of the fighting (though she personally didn't fight) and got injured (by missiles) several times in the relatively short time she took part.

At the rate she was getting injured she'd be dead quite soon anyway so the martyr's death she got was not that bad by my reckoning.

Cheerleaders don't get shot at.

AY YO HOL UP

BOUDICCA KILLED THOUSANDS OF
retired
ROMAN SOLDIERS AND BURNED THEIR VILLAGES! SHE'S BADASS DUDE!!! DELET RITE NAO.

Unless they live in the States.

Can someone find the meme like pic related but with Joan talking shit to the English and then the English calling her a glorified cheerleader.

>though she personally didn't fight

Than why the fuck is she remembered as some womyn warrior?

dunno mate would rather be hit by an arrow than burned to death.

Myth and misrepresentation. Same reason why many think nobody in the past knew the world was round. And she was in the thick of battle and a tactician. But anybody who said she was fighting is wrong and actually killing anyone wasn't even an accusation laid against her when she was burned at the stake.

For same reason as a celtic chieftain that lost even when she outnumbered her enemies 20 to 1 gets remembered as a stronk warrior queen.

wat? Being burned to death was a way worse way to go instead of taking a few arrows.

So basically because she has a vagina and did more than just cook and pop babies..

...

...

She played a pivotal inspirational role in the Armagnac's offensive strategy against the English towards the end of Hundred Years War, as well as in instilling the then uncrowned King Charles VII with the motive to re-steak his claim, which she said was by divine right (God told her) according to the dream she had.

She's known as the 'Maiden of Orleans' because she's considered catalyst for its retake through several successful champagnes, driving the English to retreat. She was wounded by an arrow in the clavicle before the final charge at Tourelles, the last English stronghold, but stayed, injured, to carry the banner into battle. She may just be a 'glorified cheerleader', but back then, rallying troops into battle was extremely important and in my opinion she deserves every bit of that glory. Some sources say she was just sixteen years old when she did all this. Its uncertain whether she advised directly on military strategy or if she fought in battle. I tend to think she did because she was surely brave.

During her trial in the Engish court for a trumped up heresy charge she BFTO her accusers at every turn but her fate was already decided and she was burned anyway.

All in all, top waifu material.

Why is she always described as a thin, slender girl, when IRL she would've looked more like pic related.

I'm just trying to be realistic, and totally not want to lick Joan's abs.

Gilles de rais did that afterwards iirc

she had really cute breasts

A witch

all girls in medieval times were described/painted as such

>muscular women

pray the gay away

It's how the troops who served under her described her. She was apparently cute as fuck with rockin' tits but was so pure that they couldn't bring themselves to think lewd thoughts about/do lewd things to her.

Gilles de Rais started his fucked up shit when he came back home after Joan died
It's believed that its her death that made him insane

What makes you think she was a warrior? She was more of a mascot and figurehead. Doubt she was doing actual military exercises.

She was a commander
The only difference is that most commanders in her era fought in melee combat while she didnt
She was kind of a modern commander, but who'd be on the battlefield instead of at the HQ

better in the sense she went down a martyr rather than just some leader who got shot

She's described as taking part in melee combat, user.

>From the moment she first rode onto a battlefield, Joan went far beyond being merely the tireless good conscience of the army. From the moment she first laid eyes on her country’s English enemies, she aroused the will of her soldiers to fight. Joan was a fine and forceful speaker but her ability to inspire the French soldiers stemmed from her leading them into battle in the most literal sense possible. She was in the front rank of every assault that she ordered to be launched. The fighting men who knew her testified to this repeatedly. D’Aulon recounted that at the battle fought outside the English fort of the Augustins, near Orléans, the French were withdrawing unmolested back to Orléans when the English suddenly appeared to attempt a surprise attack on the rear of the French column. Joan arrived on the scene just at that moment, accompanied by the French mercenary captain La Hire. Both of them were on horseback, armed with lances. Joan, with only La Hire at her side, immediately and impetuously leveled her lance and charged headlong at the English. D’Aulon said that she and La Hire struck the first blows at the enemy. The French knights and common soldiers, stung to action by Joan’s example, turned about and swept the English from the field. They went on to storm the Augustins that day, giving Joan another victory.13 (Sadly for historians, La Hire died before Joan’s retrial began. His testimony would have been invaluable.)14

That isn't what historians say. The other dude is right in that she didn't fight. She had a retinue who followed and defended her as she led the battle. So, more like a commander rather than a sokdier at arms. Which makes sense because given she was the figurehead to the whole movement you wouldn't want her engaged in combat where she can get her shit kicked in and die. She got hurt badly enough not fighting and being on the field. The last thing you want is for your figurehead and commander to risk it all and possibly die.

>The last thing you want is for your figurehead and commander to risk it all and possibly die.
That may make sense logically for you, but it's not how people thought in the middle age.

But it is. She WAS the movement. If she died, say goodbye to getting the English out since god would have not been on her side. She was the champion of the cause, and without her the cause had no real drive. It wasn't like she preached a more general idea that she can die for and have it outlast her, or even be a martyr. She said "god is on MY side". If she gets killed, there goes that plan out the fucking window.

There are no material proofs that he did anything of that, he did it while Jehanne was in jail and the prosecution against him was political and his testimony obtained under duress.
Literally the Nuremberg of the middle ages.

>I will ignore primary sources where inconvienent on the basis of.... nothing.

Tell me, oh wise user, what "historians" make this claim. Real historians, not anons on Veeky Forums with the armored cheerleader memes.

>women aren't allowed to be muscular
t. /utg/ gay anal homo guinea retard junta kike cuck shill millennial

>women are barred from military service for most of history
>consequently women military leaders in history are rare
>wonder why a commander would be notable just for being a woman
hmmm it's almost as if things/events/people that are unusual tend to grab people's attention more, or something.
