Why do brown people call themselves Latin? What's the history behind this? I seriously doubt Julius Caesar looked like pic related.

linguistic roots. they're the rape babies of iberian rape babies though.

It's ignorance. True Latins are Italians, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Because some mestizo is an Amerinidan-Latin mutt they stole the terminology in the Anglosphere.

it's latin america because they speak romance languages (spanish and Portuguese) instead of english, which is germanic

>Why do brown people call themselves Latin?

Not in their own countries. That's an Anglo thing, because you know, Spaniards and other Latin derived language speakers are inferior to English speakers. Especially since they are Catholics.

How much r1b is there in South america anyway?

bout tree fiddy

I must add, that's not my opinion, that's just what Americans were reasoning.

It probably started with a ton of anti-French hatred in the thirteen colonies, before the revolution where we started loving the French, before we forgot about that.

Probably goes back even further with British VS Irish mentality. And other old world biases against Catholics in British society.

they're too poor to run tests

>True Latins are Italians, French, Spanish and Portuguese

Not true. Ethnic Latins are only from Latium.

mexicans are about 40%, see something that says niggeragua is 60%. Mostly native mtdna though, as per the traditional indo-european style.

Because they speak a Latin-based language. Now that you put it like this it DOES sound completely absurd, like a nigger in Jamaica claiming to be Anglo-Saxon.

its a short form of Latin American

we speak Latin derived languages you know

You know how some "italian american" call them selves italian and stuff. (See jersey shore). Do south americans every call them selves spaniards or Portuguese ?

In South and central america there are various eponyms (Chicano in mexico, Catraches in Honduras) and since all of them or nearly all of them, speak spanish or portugese they are called latino after their language. It's not an ethnic reason and some parts speak french or other languages like belize so they go by other names.
See also Hispanic. Which doesn't apply well to people in brazil.

This is a great question and is part of mexico's cultural identity crisis.
It's hard in a country so intermixed like mexico to decide where it's primary roots are, and there is division between people who claim to be spanish mexicans and those who think indigenous heritage is more important
The government has formally introduced the cultural practice of Mestizaje, or race mixing. and tried to break down las castas in this way.
tl;dr
The all interbreed and they root for the spanish or portugese speakers at soccer games. So it's either a matter of identity, pertenence, or preference in the individual

thanks. Interesting to know

The difference is a family is who's only 1-2 generations apart from their Italian family IS Italian. It's not like they have centuries of time in America to mix with natives or achieve some sort of ethno genesis.

Also America as a nation built upon ideology (liberalism) doesn't emphases race or kinship. That's why Irish, Italian, Anglo, German Americans exist etc.

You see the American bias against Catholics across the Americas as a whole and for the same reasons (and usually even more extreme). The reasoning is that a Catholic's loyalty resides in Rome, no matter where they are. They have no sense of nation, because their loyalty (on Earth) is ALWAYS going to be for the Pope first and everything else second. The most extreme the U.S. got with it is segregation and entire newpapers dedicated to shitting on Catholics (including the Harvard school paper). Then you have states like Mexico where clergy weren't even allowed to wear religious dress outside of church, churches were seized to be used as stables, and religious processions were banned entirely.

It also doesn't help that the casta system is still pretty well entrenched in society so being of a higher class makes you more "continental" than indio, even if the casta system is officially abolished.

There used to be a common term, "Latin Europe", used to refer to those European countries that speak a derivative of Latin. "Latin America" was coined on the same basis, but since then the original term Latin Europe has all but died out.

It goes back to a funny story involving some irish geese and the spanish american war
The irish who formerly fought the britts with the americans changed sides and started fighting for the mexicans in the Mex-Amer War because they realized that the Mexicans were catholics
US ended up hanging them all in mexico city and denied the whole thing. Then some shit with marijuanna supposedly causing mexicans to thirst for white women....
The catholic thing is really true.

>America the whore of Babylon which sells out to the highest bidder on a regular basis is worried someone will have loyalty to a conservative Western European religion
Lol

i'm pretty sure julius caesar looked like pic related

I assume you mean war of 1812. The Mexican American war happened decades after. How many soldiers who would be elongate to fight in both wars wouldn't be very much.

t. Catholicuck

Enjoy that Muslim prayer in the Vatican from Peter the Roman.

I'm brazilian and this is not common here, we embrace the brazilian nacionality, but there are some special snowflakes in the south. Also, it wouldn't be by any means a logic thought to call ourselves portuguese or shit, we are mixed, even if only an european mix, take me for an example, I'm lebanese, italian and portuguese mix, it would be ridiculous to embrace one nationality over another.

Sure thing Amerifat. Enjoyed being blown up by muslims and fighting wars for kikerial.

>Enjoyed being blown up by muslims
Seems to be happening mostly in countries that are Catholic or have a significant Catholic minority, my dude.

>what is Germany
>what is amerifatia
>what is the Jew K
If your news wasn't so fake you'd know mass rapes and killings are going on in protashit nations, fatty. As well as majority muslim ones. Most of which (Iraq, Syria and Libya) were stable until the whore of Babylon had to rear her ugly head and destroy them for freedumbs and dumbocracy.

>Germany doesn't have a significant Catholic minority
>ignoring France
>ignoring Belgium
There have been more Islamic terrorist attacks in France over the last two years than in the United States and UK combined over the last twenty. Pull your head out of your ass.

Apologies.
Reily was not irish geese, but Great famine cross over and it was the MExican american war
The Flight of geese were all continental europe

[ciation needed]

But no terrorist attacks have been carried out in either the Holy See's Shell (Italy) nor in Spain recently. Belgium and France are hardly culturally Catholic anymore.

5 Islamist terrorist attacks in Britain since 1997.

15 Islamic terrorist attacks in the United States since 1997.

For 20 total between UK and US.

21 in France since December 2014

Wrong.

There have also been multiple plots on the Vatican.

In anycase Mexico has more streets named after Saint Patrick than any other country

>one attack on Spain
>mere plots on the Vatican
Wow.

>doesn't count because you say
Wow.

all the answers in this thread are bad
Nobody in latin america called themselves latin before the mid XIX century
Latin America, the concept, is a French Imperialistic creation from the time in which they invaded Mexico in the 1860s.

"The term Latin America was supported by the French Empire of Napoleon III during the French invasion of Mexico as a way to include France among countries with influence in the Americas and to exclude Anglophone countries. It played a role in his campaign to imply cultural kinship of the region with France, transform France into a cultural and political leader of the area, and install Maximilian of Habsburg as emperor of the Second Mexican Empire.[13] This term was also used in 1861 by French scholars in La revue des races Latines, a magazine dedicated to the Pan-Latinism movement.[14]"

Hispanic (except for Brazil) or Iberoamerican, are better terms.

also, Caesar didnt look like that, but Mexicans do speak and language that descends from Latin, and generally have significant ancestry from one of the most important provinces of the empire, a very romanized region that produced many emperors, something that cant be said of the average English, Scottish, Irish, German WASP.
And those third world countries do have Spanish elites-minorities.
