Historically, why do Indians have a tradition of defecating in the streets? Why didn't they develop a toilet culture like every other civilization on Earth except Africans, who didn't develop a civilization? India is geographically situated in close proximity to China, which not only developed an organic composting toilet that was connected to a pig sty, but also developed toilet paper. Why did Indians choose to continue to relieve themselves outdoors rather than adopting the most advanced defecation technologies of the ancient world?

iirc they adhere very strictly to 'don't shit where you eat,' of course because it's dirty, but instead of adopting the use of toilets when plumbing was introduced, they thought 'why would we need to install toilets in our homes when we shit outside?'
