Where did these fucks get the wood for their bows from? Don't they live in a plateau? Isn't the definition of a plateau a treeless area? Did they ride up to the north for the trees? Trade for wood? With who?

I assume the lack of wood is why they have those funky composite horn shortbows, but even those had wood between the bow's belly and back.

Compound bows are made out of bones and sinew.

They are mostly wood. The section of the bow that curves away from the user could be made of bone or something else.

>In geology and earth science, a plateau (pronunciation: /pləˈtoʊ/ or /ˈplætoʊ/; plural plateaus or plateaux), also called a high plain or tableland, is an area of highland, usually consisting of relatively flat terrain that is raised significantly above the surrounding area, often with one or more sides with steep slopes.

They used every part of each horse when it died

they border fucking Siberia.

They used the grass, what do you think trees are made of?

Horse archers are so fucking annoying and infuriating.

>chase them
>they run away and shoot at you

>run away
>they chase and shoot at you

Didn't heavy cavalry pretty much crush them most of the time though?

>Heavy cavalry
>catching up with light horse archers

Pick one.

Mongolia has decent-sized areas of alpine forest.

>alpine
>forest

Alexander BTFOed them with catapults. But the only thing you can really do is use foot archers screened by heavy cavalry

To be fair it's not the Steppe People's fault they got their shit pushed in by Alexander, Alexander pushed in EVERYONE'S shit.

Yes, if handled properly. If you knew about horse archers, you would probably beat them. If you hadn't fought steppe warriors in generations and/or were suffering serious internal issues, you'd lose.

Battle of Lechfeld

Foot archers and heavy infantry also works fine, as does armored cavalry with lances and bows, or crossbowmen, or artillery with infantry cover.

The Mongols also mobilizes heavy cavalries to counter them.

Heavy cavalry were like 1/3 of Mongolian army

wrong.

no you're wrong.

Yeah, you need either artillery or foot archers with longer range.

>Isn't the definition of a plateau a treeless area?

?
All you need to stop horse archers is fortifications and a well trained militia

Plateau just means flat plain it can or cannot have trees on it
What you mean is Steppe which is just rolling fields with a tree rarely due to lack of concentrated water
And if they didn't have native trees to use then A take them as tribute from someone's shit you pushed in B buy them with the loot you got from pushing shot in C make it from bone and sinew
