India

Why is Indian history so overlooked for pop culture and in common historical knowledge? The area has been populated for millennia yet the only things I know about it are Ghandi, Alexander and the Mhugals invasions.

Britain did a good job suppressing it.

Same reason why Chinese history is overlooked. They're both gigantic clusterfucks and detailed studying of them is too tedious and wouldn't go well with standardized curriculum teached in modern schools.

Indians sure love getting blown the fuck out by numerically inferior forces

see:alexander, Dutch conquests, East India company, etc

The west wore theirselves out with Judaeo-Christian culture to look into anything else.

worthless garbage, all culture is a scale of impiety

Not enough exposure

Because you were raised in the west. Turns out when societies teach their children history they usually focus on how that history impacts their society.

>tdlr; if you were raised in India you'd have learned more about it in school

People who aren't white or Chinese don't record their history in a way people can easily understand. With India they generally didn't bother to write anything down and what they did write down was just lists of names and children, so historians generally have to rely on archaeology and filling in the gaps with their imagination. Compare that to the rich narrative histories we have in the west starting with the Greeks and the Bible and it is easy to see why western history is more popular.

Id like to learn more. But I don't know where to start. Its a huge region, many ethnicities and complicated history. Are there any documentaries to see? I'm mostly interested in ancient and medieval india.

>I know fucking nothing about Indian history

Start arguing any time

There is tons of recorded Indian history, stop speaking out of your asshole.

There is a lot of text on Indian history dumbfuck.

You can not be this bankrupt, the English appreciated the history and cultural diversity of the sub-continent more than the zealous hegemons they eclipsed.
Even the EIC believed the cultures of India should be studied as the equals to those in Europe.

Might be more to do with it's an enormous Gordian unfamiliar narrative with little perceivable relevance to modern life.

Or fuck it right, this is just yet another "let's pretend the Anglos are evil incarnate" thread.

It's relatively easy to give an overview of Imperial Chinese history, whereas once you get past the Raj and the Mughals you end up totally lost.

>English appreciated the history and cultural diversity of the sub-continent more than the zealous hegemons they eclipsed.
By pillaging valuables things and starving out populations? Right.

The concept of India having a history is offensive to Islam.

>On 28 April 1819, a British officer named John Smith, of the 28th Cavalry, while hunting tiger, discovered the entrance to Cave No. 10 when a local shepherd boy guided him to the location and the door.[44] Captain Smith went to a nearby village and asked the villagers to come to the site with axes, spears, torches and drums, to cut down the tangled jungle growth that made entering the cave difficult.[44] He then vandalised the wall by scratching his name and the date over the painting of a bodhisattva.

ANGLOOOOSSSSS

They said that it was great. In the 1800's they thought it degenerated due to muslim influence and called hindus the beaten dogs of Islam

Who will stop the anglo menace?

No one

Early indologists wished to control & convert the followers of Vedic Culture, therefore they widely propagated that the Vedas were simply mythology.

Max Muller, perhaps the most well known early sanskritist and indologist, although later in life he glorified the Vedas, initially wrote that the "Vedas were worse than savage" and "India must be conquered again by education... it's religion is doomed"

Thomas Macaulay, who introduced English education into India wanted to make the residents into a race that was: "Indian in blood and color, but English in taste, in opinion, in morals, and in intellect."

These early Indologists:

• Devised the Aryan Invasion theory, denying India's Vedic past

• They taught that the English educational system is superior

• They intentionally misinterpreted sanskrit texts to make the Vedas look primitive.

• And they systematically tried to make Indians ashamed of their own culture

• Thus the actions of these indologists seems to indicate that they were motivated by a racial bias.

However, the German Philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer stated that the Sanskrit understanding of these Indologists was like that of young schoolboys.

Because we dont live in india and neither does our language and culture.

get conquered bitch

>Alexander
>Blowing India the fuck out

Nigga went like barely into modern Kashmir if I'm correct

The other examples are fair game tho

and won battles against numerically superior forces

>Dutch conquests,
They were repelled by the tarangans.
> East India company
Was defeated once and then jewed themselves into power.

That was more of an Alexander thing

Basically these two. The Muslims are responsible for censoring India's past.

This desu whenever Indian history brought up fucking Congress and the leftist media always censor cus it will offend Muslims
Even the fucking western left media said that one mughul king (forgot his name) slaughter millions of Hindus and called him tolarant

>Thomas Macaulay, who introduced English education into India wanted to make the residents into a race that was: "Indian in blood and color, but English in taste, in opinion, in morals, and in intellect."

They did a bloody good job

Alexander stopped at India dumbass
