Why didn't Europeans colonize each other?

How come during the age of colonial empires the Spanish were the only ones to annex European land in a colonial fashion? Other countries, especially Britain, had plenty of opportunity.

Was it because of Habsburgs?

>what is Ireland

>how to marry countries into your empire 101

I wouldn't say this was real colonization.

Because they weren't interested in doing that and ruining economies in place already.

hahahahahahhahahahahahahaha
>Western Russian empire
>eastern Austrian Hungarian empire
>random British colonies in Mediterranean.
>anytime anyone but poles has ruled in poland.

They did
Why do you think half of English language's vocabulary is French?

>annex European land in a colonial fashion
What the actual fuck.

>Ireland
>Poland
>Austro-Hungarian Empire
>Ottomans in the Balkans

???

Ireland, you s'wit

french is bastardized latin too.

Colonialism is about bring civilization to places where there are none. You can't civilize already civil nations.

what would you call this op?

What are the napoleonic wars. The time Germany, the Rhineland and Italy became a colony of France

They did. German colonization of Slavic land, for example.

why try to colonize formidable opponents with advanced weaponry when you can just invade centuries/millenia behind peoples whose land contains a wealth of natural resources

Anglo Saxon colonization of the British isles

because uncivilized people are far away and usually don't have comfy cities

Define "colonial fashion" because the spanish "colonies" are the last european territories i would compare with the overseas colonies.
The spaniards never tried to assimilate anyone and they never sent any settlers either and the local elite belonged to the local ethnic group.
You cannot call that a colony.

having your ethnic group/state spread out and form new cities

Ancient Greeks colonised mainland Southern Italy, Sicily and parts of Sardinia and the Mediterranean coast of Spain, as well as what we call now Marseille.

this guy gets it, apollo was the god of colonization

Britain colonised Ireland you dunce

heck even the Irish colonised Scotland and parts of Wales

If they aren't your country, they aren't your people and hence barbarian filth. Been this way throughout all of history. When European weren't out messing in other continents, they ripped each other apart too.

SWEDISH COLONIZATION OF FINLAND

>I wouldn't say this was real colonization.
Spain fully conquered Naples,Parma and Milan

Isnt French basically latin with a gaullish pronounciation?
