Hey, Veeky Forums. I have a question for you.
What would have happened if Mexico fighted the U.S with the Central Powers in WW1 according the Zimmerman's Telegram?.
I mean, it obviusly had been defeated but what would have happened AFTER?

They would've done the same that they did in Panama but in Tehuantepec

The US would have occupied Mexico for a couple years, eventually instating a puppet regime. It is interesting to think about how American interventions in South American would have been impacted, especially during the Cold War.

Puppet Government in Mexico

>What would have happened if Mexico fighted the U.S with the Central Powers in WW1 according the Zimmerman's Telegram?
Considering the fact they were in the middle of a fucking revolution, I'm sure that would have gone over swimmingly. The U.S. would have taken Yucatan and Baja for sure.

Nationalist (Or communist) revolutions during 1929's Crisis?

>fighted

If Carranza's government wouldn't had that anti-foreigners policy, maybe with German support could have crushed Villa and Zapata's rebellions.

Yeah, they would have done extremely well, what with being invaded and blockaded by the United States. All those German reinforcements teleporting across the Atlantic from Germany would have done wonders.

Support wouldn't nessesary had to come during war.
But you have a point. After blocking Mexico would've been piece of cake for the US

Not him, but if it came from Germany, it would need to come from before 1914, let alone Mexico jumping into things around 1917. Germany was blockaded pretty tightly too.

>Support wouldn't nessesary had to come during war
Even if Mexico DIDN'T declare war, Germany had no way to get support to Mexico. Germany had a fuck ton of trade coming out of the Americas (and very good relations) before the war. Hell, Germany DID assist in the revolution before WW1 started through arms supplies. Once WW1 began, any assistance and trade Germany could give dried the fuck up because of the Entente blockade.

Zimmerman's Telegram is from 1917 so...
But in Mexico during that time there was the Convencion de Aguascalientes and the expedition of the 1917's constitution. And Carranza could have easily made an alliance with Villa or Zapata at least for a year or two just by promising them lands.
Even if not, after invasion from the US Villa would have definetly fought the Americans.
And by those times, Villa attacked some American Villages in the frontiers and we have to remember America was looking excuses to invade Mexico in complot with some Huerta's affiliates and American embassy at Wilson's charge.

>America was looking excuses to invade Mexico
We did invade Mexico. There was no "looking for excuses." We raided the ever living shit out of the border during the entirety of the revolution and also occupied/pillaged Veracruz as a way of saying "Fuck with us during this and we'll parade through Mexico City again"

Mexico would have lost no matter what. But what would have happened after?

U.S. takes Yucatan and Baja. Banana Republican placed in power. Mexico continues on the path of industrialization ala Porfiriato without the clusterfuck that was the PRI getting in the way. Probably some Soviet-backed insurgencies in Mexico during the Cold War.

Why the fuck would you take Yucatan?

Why the fuck would anyone take yucatan? It's nothing but jungle, uppity indians and limestone.

Yeah. Why Yucatan?
In that case, Tehuantepec would had been the one is taken to open a new bridge between oceans

Believe it or not, the U.S. had been eyeing Yucatan for over a century before the Mexican Revolution. Even tried to buy it a few times and almost annexed it during the Mexican American War.

By those times in 1917 would have been annexion or a new puppet state? Cuz in early independent Mexico a lot of states tried independence from the federal government. Like Texas did later on.
One of those independences was Yucatan one's.

I can almost guarantee it would have been an annexation.

Two words: Caste War

the US had plenty of chance to annex the Yucatan or make it an independent subservient government and force Mexico's recognition and didn't do that.

Not saying your sources are bullshit just that in this case US interest in it might be a tad exaggerated. If anyone showed legitimate interest in the territories it was the British that sold arms to the rebelling territories for decades through Belize.

You should have read the sources. They talk about the Caste War.

Possible map?

Not really no, they mention it in passing but the damn thing lasted until 1901, if the US had been seriously considering it they had plenty of time to act.

>Not really no, they mention it in passing
They spend the entire last two paragraphs talking about it in each.

>if the US had been seriously considering it they had plenty of time to act
Yeah, because invading and annexing another territory after invading the country and doing just that just before looks REALLY good internationally.

>looks REALLY good internationally.
That's your argument? In a time where colonization was in full swing you're using the "they didn't want to look bad" card?

They had 50 years, stop making such a big deal about it, they clearly didn't give a fuck user, dwi.

>because invading and annexing another territory looks REALLY good internationally.
Philippines
Guam
Puerto Rico
Hawaii

Mexico would have been crushed, as they had just gone through a civil war and didn't have a functioning government nor military.

There was talk of occupying Mexican old fields, who knows how serious those talks were.

>Mexico would have been crushed
Idk about that, it seems every military in the world was rather absolutely and completely retarded at that point in time. Warfare seemed to really favor defense.

I know Americans love to disparage their southern neighbor and walk around waving that military dick they've been polishing since 1945 but in 1917 military theory was in the dung heap. No one knew what they were doing and every excursion ended in trenches with tons of people dead.

Not saying Mexico would have won, the USA still has a clear population, industrial and naval advantage nothing in Mexico can touch, just saying Mexico is mountains and valleys and a few guys with machine guns and barbed wire stopped the whole French army cold.

Just saying it probably wouldn't be a walk in the park like everyone is suggesting, it would probably actually end up being pretty brutal because wars with that tech were.

It would've probably led to a very different 'Good Neighbor' policy w/FDR.

Vacation spot?

It's fucking pretty

I have to imagine Mexico would be a much better country.

tfw you will never live comfortable in a small ranch house at the tip of baja sipping margaritas with your cute latina wife while enjoying the benefits of also being american...why live?

>baja ranch
>a ranch in baja

What does your ranch produce? sand? You dreaming of a sand ranch user?
