Am I missing something here? How was the Ottoman Empire a survival of the Roman Empire? I understand that the Byzantine Empire was part of Rome, but from what I know, the Ottoman and Byzantine Empires were two separate countries, the former of which conquered and destroyed the latter during the late Middle Ages.
