one of the aztec kings apparently dismissed one of his wives because she wasn't thicc enough

...

Probably some retarded shit like swollen legs, cosmetic scarring, piercings, or skin stretching.

Toltec actually, but his desire for a fat ass is more a moral lesson about excess and it's potential for being a danger to the community (it brought ruin to his people and collapsed the Toltec civilization). He went through great lengths to find an ass that was excessively fat. The fact that he went through great lengths, publicly (getting his lords beneath him to search for such a woman) is more excessive. The aztecs tolerated things they viewed as degenerate like homosexuality as long as it wasn't flaunted, adultery was tolerated too, as long as it was private and not a well known affair.

As for what they found attractive, there is no single asnwer. It really depends which central american group you are talking about. The Maya practiced cranial deformation, elongated the skulls, men and women did this a sign of beauty meant to reflect maize, which they believed is what originated humankinds body. And the maize deity was very important to them.

The Huastecs, also Mayan linguistically and to a lesser extent culturally, but more influenced by their gulf coast neighbors also elongated their skulls. Totonacs, Yopi, and Otomi also did this. Scarification, tattoo, body paint, facepaint makeup, hair dying, beautiful textiles were all attractive things to wear and style yourself with. Feathers, obsidian, jade, were all highly prized things to wear which only the wealthier people wore. The lower central americans in costa rica and panama prized gold. The Otomi, sometimes used beetles as ear ornaments and dyed their teeth black, as did the Huastecs. Maya inlaid gold or jade in their teeth, Aztec prostitutes dyed their teeth red and wore red paint on their lips. Aztecs regarded tattoos, paint and big piercings as degenerate, and criticized their neighbors often for this, like the Huastecs who wore large nose plugs, which the Aztecs saw as excessively sexual. Aztecs prized 'natural beauty.

Someone post the full version of this

>revisionism

Explain, as I can provide sources.

>tolerated things they viewed as degenerate like homosexuality as long as it wasn't flaunted, adultery was tolerated too, as long as it was private and not a well known affair.
Not too different from the world of today.

>searching for the thiccest bae in the kingdom is somehow a bad thing
I guess the Ottomans are our guys now.

Doesn't matter if there are sources , it's just romanticism bullshit.

I'm not seeing any sources backing up your claims, I'll just assume you don't know what you're talking about. You've yet to address anything you found 'romantic'.

This is what the ideal Maya man looked like.

Tribal peoples are all about the bunda

Post more native american women pls

It seems this story is more significant than i originally thought. I didn't realize how legendary this Huemac figure was and that his actions may have brought about the fall of such a notable Mesoamerican empire. I thought it was just some niche tale.

>THE FALL OF TOLLAN

>What ended the Toltec civilization’s regional dominance is not known. A warlike people, no doubt conquering surrounding tribes and imposing tribute without any concern for integration into the Toltec political and religious culture, the ‘empire’ may well have simply disintegrated when put under the strain of such natural phenomena as a sustained drought. Internal disputes may also have led to the break up of the power structure, and this is hinted at in the legendary stories of battles between the gods Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca, intertwined with historical figures. What is more certain is that in the mid-12th century CE, Tollán shows signs of violent destruction; many architectural columns and statues were burnt and purposely buried and the site was systematically looted by the Aztecs. Led by the final Toltec leader Huemac, the remnants of the Toltec people re-settled at Chapultepec on the west banks of Lake Texcoco, an event traditionally dated either 1156 or 1168 CE.

Question: I know that the word coatl means serpent, but why is it that the Aztecs used that for so many of their gods? Did they think they all looked like snakes?

Not just the aztecs. Snakes have been used significantly in ancient cultures across the globe. In fact the serpent is one of the oldest mythological symbols there is. To many Mesoamerican cultures, 'feathered serpents' represented a dual nature, Quetzalcoatl being the chief example. As a deity, it represented divinity and flight (the feathers), as well as humanity, crawling, close to the earth (the snake). Quetzalcoatl in particular was the god of wind and wisdom, also sharing a role in creation of the world.

From all this, i suppose you might say that the snake aspect represents us, perhaps signifying the human nature that we often find present in most pagan gods.

Snakes also represented regeneration, the cycles of fertility, and because it lived in the earth, it was related to earth deities like Coatlicue, Cihuacoatl, Chicomecoatl, etc. Huitzilopochtli's weapon was a serpent, his mother (the earth) had a serpent skirt and tlaloc also has a serpent. In the Maya regions, the rain deity Chak and the Moon Goddess both ride a serpent in the sky and bring rain. For the Nahua Pipil of Izalco (El Salvador) they have a half serpent, half peccary or pig called a Kuyaangkua (kua or kuat is serpent in Nawat) and they are said to make sounds to announce the rains.
