>5 years later

I like the Toyota War desu.

>WTF!? Why didn't anyone tell me that the sky is blue and water is wet? o__0

t. /pol/ historian

A lot of Africans these days preach about African agency and hate charity efforts as they cripple their economy, i.e., if you give every African shoes, then the African shoe industry gets wiped out.

If food aid just another example of American hegemony?

>cripples local agricultural economy
>makes country dependant on America
>the only jobs in the region become sweatshops and mining ops

Where were you when libshits were continuing the imperialism they love to preach against?

Hey I'm ALL for it. Christian charity is almost solely responsible for their explodes birth rates.

We should have just never given them a single thing and harassed them away from our territories.

No food, no medicine, no water, no electricity. Just told then to fuck off because it's ultimately for their own good.

We tried so hard and got so far. But in the end we're demons anyhow. Should have just been demons from go.

Tribalism fucks Africa (in general, iirc the thing I'm talking about happened in Angola in particular), force out colonial powers, warlord takes over, kills ethnic groups/tribal groups that aren't his own, etc
Not to mention tribalism also fucks with the agency you mention. I recall reading a story about a aid worker recalling a african farming to make and sell bread and then his family/tribe came along and said, "you have all this bread and you're selling it? just give it to your family members" and then since he barely had money from selling what he did, he didn't farm for bread anymore

Anyway, it's a shame how fucked so much of Africa is, hope they get their shit together in the foreseeable futute

Chaotic times make the most interesting stories.

Africans come shuffling around for food? Give em the rifle volley.

African mothers come begging for us to cure their children? Shoot them at the borders.

Africans want to get some of that sweet, sweet agriculture technology? FUCK YOU, we don't want to STIFLE your growth.

>Charity is responsible for their exploding birth rates

Did you fail geography mate?

Africa's birth rates have always been massive, it's just less of their children are dying in infancy due to rapid industrialisation.

That's wrong though.

Absolutely wrong.

African civil wars have a great aesthetic, although it is basically disaster porn.

gas all /pol/estinians. Die you scum.

So intolerant desu.

What would mommy say? You need to learn to play nice with others.

>Cheap United States chicken imports hit South African supermarket shelves on Tuesday last week for the first time in 15 years. The announcement concluded a protracted trade dispute that came to a head in November last year when US President Barack Obama gave South Africa 90 days to open its market to US chicken, beef and pork or lose duty-free access to the US market for its own agricultural products.

>What was taken as a given by all factions of the liberation struggle was that apartheid was not only a political system regulating who was allowed to vote and move freely. It was also an economic system that used racism to enforce a highly lucrative arrangement: a small white elite had been able to amass enormous profits from South Africa’s mines, farms and factories because a large black majority was prevented from owning land and forced to provide its labour for far less than it was worth—and was beaten and imprisoned when it dared to rebel. In the mines, whites were paid up to ten times more than blacks, and, as in Latin America, the large industrialists worked closely with the military to have unruly workers disappeared.7

>What the Freedom Charter asserted was the baseline consensus in the liberation movement that freedom would not come merely when blacks took control of the state but when the wealth of the land that had been illegitimately confiscated was reclaimed and redistributed to the society as a whole. South Africa could no longer be a country with Californian living standards for whites and Congolese living standards for blacks, as the country was described during the apartheid years; freedom meant that it would have to find something in the middle.

> In the years that passed between Mandela’s writing his note from prison and the ANC’s 1994 election sweep in which he was elected president, something happened to convince the party hierarchy that it could not use its grassroots prestige to reclaim and redistribute the country’s stolen wealth. So, rather than meeting in the middle between California and the Congo, the ANC adopted policies that exploded both inequality and crime to such a degree that South Africa’s divide is now closer to Beverly Hills and Baghdad. Today, the country stands as a living testament to what happens when economic reform is severed from political transformation. Politically, its people have the right to vote, civil liberties and majority rule. Yet economically, South Africa has surpassed Brazil as the most unequal society in the world.

>h-how dare Americans offer Africans chicken for cheap IMMMPPERIULLLISM

>What happened in those negotiations is that the ANC found itself caught in a new kind of web, one made of arcane rules and regulations, all designed to confine and constrain the power of elected leaders. As the web descended on the country, only a few people even noticed it was there, but when the new government came to power and tried to move freely, to give its voters the tangible benefits of liberation they expected and thought they had voted for, the strands of the web tightened and the administration discovered that its powers were tightly bound. Patrick Bond, who worked as an economic adviser in Mandela’s office during the first years of ANC rule, recalls that the in-house quip was "Hey, we’ve got the state, where’s the power?" As the new government attempted to make tangible the dreams of the Freedom Charter, it discovered that the power was elsewhere.

>Want to redistribute land? Impossible—at the last minute, the negotiators agreed to add a clause to the new constitution that protects all private property, making land reform virtually impossible. Want to create jobs for millions of unemployed workers? Can’t—hundreds of factories were actually about to close because the ANC had signed on to the GATT, the precursor to the World Trade Organization, which made it illegal to subsidize the auto plants and textile factories. Want to get free AIDS drugs to the townships, where the disease is spreading with terrifying speed? That violates an intellectual property rights commitment under the WTO, which the ANC joined with no public debate as a continuation of the GATT. Need money to build more and larger houses for the poor and to bring free electricity to the townships? Sorry—the budget is being eaten up servicing the massive debt, passed on quietly by the apartheid government. Print more money? Tell that to the apartheid-era head of the central bank. Free water for all? Not likely. The World Bank, with its large in-country contingent of economists, researchers and trainers (a self-proclaimed "Knowledge Bank"), is making private-sector partnerships the service norm. Want to impose currency controls to guard against wild speculation? That would violate the $850 million IMF deal, signed, conveniently enough, right before the elections. Raise the minimum wage to close the apartheid income gap? Nope. The IMF deal promises "wage restraint."12 And don’t even think about ignoring these commitments— any change will be regarded as evidence of dangerous national untrustworthiness, a lack of commitment to “reform,” an absence of a "rules-based system." All of which will lead to currency crashes, aid cuts and capital flight. The bottom line was that South Africa was free but simultaneously captured;

calm down sir. It's not an even playing field. Farmer's lives are being destroyed

>muh autarky & protectionism w-won't you think of the local economy

just because Trump won doesn't mean the ENTIRE WORLD has to embrace it

Well yeah, when you put the farmers out of business and make them rely on imports, then you can essentially hold a country hostage and prevent them from developing to your level.

[citation that isn't a news op-ed needed]

what are you even arguing here?

The quote said the USA forced their imports onto another country. What fortune that they didin't manage that in the EU.

>forced
Looks like SA wanted to continue to be able to "force" their imports into the USA.

Holy shit, that's just like a childrens story we have here in Sweden. It's about a hen that asks the other animals if they want to grows some wheat, they don't so she does it all herself. Then she asks them to help her mill the grain but no one helps so she does it herself. Then she asks for help to bake bread from the flour but non of the animals are willing so she does it herself. Then when the hen has bred she tells the other animals they must give her grain, then they may have some bread. They refuse and complain to the farmer. The farmer forces the hen to share the bread equally amongst the animals. Time passes and the other animals often wonder why the hen never bakes bread any more.

youtube.com/watch?v=hkJv2wop3yU

That is terrifyingly similar, I really hope some how my brain didn't pick this story up and mesh it into my readings of Africa, what the fuck

I remember the tale in an old disney cartoon, back when doland was a side character

Yeah but this ignores the fact that Africans are vicious niggers who sabotage themselves and clearly lack certain faculties of empathy which helps dealmakers and politicians understand, respond, and manipulate people towards unified political goals.

Instead it's pure tribalism shit.

The World Bank is shit but so are subsaharan Africans. It's a match made in Hitler Butt Naked heaven.

>HURRR DERR NIGGERS AMMA RIGHT?
>WE WUZ ARYANZ AN SHIZ

Someone post the paratrooper greentext, that right there is some GOOD post colonial history

Found it
Everybody should read this, really fascinating write up about second congo war

No you're definitely referencing an actual African phenomenon I remember reading about. Maybe it wasn't bread but there was definitely a small business owner getting fucked over by his tribe asking for gibs.

I sure do love when a thread becomes a /pol/ containment thread. I even love it more when the topic is interesting

Are you retarded, or just pretending?

How come everyone who disagreez with the general Veeky Forums circlejerk consensus becomes accused of being a poltard?

If you want another really neat unheard of African conflict, look at the Ogaden War

>only armored airborne assault in history

It's like getting to watch what pre-modern Europe might have looked like if they'd all been given technicals and Kalashnikovs.

You've got ethnic conflict, religious war between pagans/Christians/Muslims, insane rulers, hilarious corruption, crazy feats of arms, outbreaks of plague and famine etc. All of the things you read about happening in medieval Europe

TL;DR: Africa is medieval and it's fun to watch

>naomiklein

I laughed out loud, maybe we should send the unnecessary billions we send to Israel to Africa.

Of course "hurr durr" niggers. What do you call a population that would look like complete retards if not for their highly extroverted nature?

t. Jewish geneticist

>Permit duty free trade from SA to American markets
>Ask that they reciprocate
>You are the bad guy

>looking at things from a eurocentric view

There's no way people give so much charity that it is responsible to high birth rates. I call bullshit.

it's more of the "LOL LOOK I"M SAYING NIGGER ON HE INTERNET" shit that turns people against you weinee boy.

Most people coming lately misunderstand that whole fucking story hilariously and cone up with the complete wrong conclusions.

That story is ALWAYS related without knowing the context at all.

please link the story, I'd like to know if I was wrong about something

Not everyone who disagrees is a /pol/tard of course, but it's very easy to spot one nonetheless.

This is pretty much the same excuse every extremist gives.

>We tried so hard and got so far. But in the end we're demons anyhow. Should have just been demons from go.

Don't pretend this was a disinterested attempt to help the Africans. The same hand that was handing out gibmedats was also propping up reactionary dictators to ensure continued access to African resources.

>LOL LOOK I"M SAYING NIGGER ON HE INTERNET
Do you even know what website you are on right now?

It's not gibemedats though. Why do people throw that word everywhere?

t. Cecil Rhodes

It literally is. It's free handouts.

>t. Vengeful Ghost of Cecil Rhodes
ftfy

Cecil Rhodes was a white man's burden cuckold who thought it's our holy duty to civilize Africa or some shit. We should've never went to that shithole continent.

You can buy medicine AND agriculture technology, it aint like its god given to every population in the world but africans

Look mom, an idiot!

Africa fails at everything, its a fact. Commies dont like facts, they become uncomfortable when theres discussions about africa, because its usually negative, for a reason ofcourse, but commies see it as racism and disregards all type of discussion as /pol

>Cecil Rhodes was a white man's burden cuckold who thought it's our holy duty to civilize Africa or some shit

Omg you trucking retard he was all about SPREADING THE GLORY OF THE BRITS EMPIRE EVERY to serve it's whims and desires. How you think he was ever about White man's burden is pure stupidity. How the fuck do you get white man's burden form any of his actions? betetr yet the fact that you don't even know that white man's burden is simply just a vague justification used to assuage the masses back home of their nations action. No one of any sort of power believed in it genuinely.

>if you give every African shoes, then the African shoe industry gets wiped out.

Sounds like anti free trade, protectionist talk to me.

Enlighten us

because it's not even free really let alone they fact that aid is given to places were the alternative is much worse. Don't even know why people attach stigma to social services or charity when they are the fucking benchmark of a developed nation

>turns around and accuses anons of being commies

SA goods can't compete with American subsidies chicken.

Same reason why cotton is so fucked. American subsidies make it hard for other countries to compete even if they can grow it cheaper.

Why don't they enact their own subsidies?

-Cuban participation in Angolan Civil War

-Macías Nguema executed by Moroccans as his countrymen believe him to be possessed by demons

--

It's not that they are recieiving so much charity, it is that the charities are specifically Christian in nature, and so do alot to discourage the use of contraception and other forms of birth control and family planning, leading to both higher birth rates and higher rates of HIV transmission.

>nobody's posted this yet

I love the Ugandan-Tanzanian war. Ugandan troops hijacking the trucks of Libyan troops sent to help them fight and running off with loot, Tanzania's building up a large army in such a short amount of time, the overall pathetic performance of the Ugandan airforce.

They don't have anywhere near the largess of USA. Politicians are also probably more susceptible to bribery by lobbyists hired by our domestic growers.

It's a complete mess and difficult to follow, that's why.

Even here at my super-progressive university there isn't a single decent course on recent African history.

(((Klein)))

But for real, it sounds like they have a problem with the WTO and IMF, which isn't a racism problem, it's a macroecon problem.

Thanks user. It seems that the only way to learn anything about post colonial Africa is to break down and pick up some books. No Wikipedia summary or meme-tier youtube videos or even podcasts to do it fore you.

Has anyone ITT actually read any of these enough to speak on them?

Anymore of this?

>if you give every African shoes, then the African shoe industry gets wiped out.
Basically, THIS

Give a man a fish and he has a meal. Give him a fishing rod and he can provide for his family.
Let him sell his fish on the global market and he can send his kids to college.

The best aid is open markets

this is the part where i tell you to kill yourself and you give me a (You) explaining that I proved your point.

Double Nigger.

Yes, actually.
Fun fact, americans give money to africans to then buy food from americans, thus keeping american farmers alive and hurting local african farmers and herders.

He's talking about charities, not businesses.

Veeky Forums is infected with lefty/pol/

And they could find somewhere else to sell their things. Nothing was "forced".

No, it's infected with disgusting centrists.

>a Veeky Forums guide
>taken from /k/ threads and recommendations

This board is cancerous as fuck. From trying to force "le finno-korean hyper war meme" to stealing from other boards.

No wonder moot never made this board, Veeky Forums and /k/ already covered historical topics better.

Yep in England as well

It was a /news/ screencap

Except the popultion of africa is beyond its saturation point for self sustainability considering that mass agriculture is impossible their due to constant conflicts and the IQ gap. The only way to sustain these populations is through charity unless you want them all to starve.

>inb4 IQ is racist

Fuck off

...

ima need a sauce on that tank destroyer/spg

thats the point
you're not impressing anyone

the open markets dont give him a fishing rod anymore than just giving him a fish does

...

Fuck you, fuck you user you god damn retard

>Veeky Forums and /k/ already covered historical topics better.

Veeky Forums is pol and int central since like those boards there's a wide range of topics t hat you can't talk about as they will devolve into pure shitposting immediately.

You can't compete on the global market user.
How the fuck are you supposed to compete with the developed big dogs? Same with farming.

that's an ASU-57 you dip.
