I've been rubbing my almonds together and I've gotten thinking: what if we set up an audiobook club? either we all gather in a voice chatroom and someone tries their hand at reading an agreed upon history book, which we could comment on in realtime in a chat room. the audioreader could be voted upon too and we might have a contest to read. OR, we set up an archive, and anons can record themselves reading history books, which can then be upvoted based on their voice and other narrative qualities. A problem I forsee is that no user would be willing to contribute their time to reading and recording themselves. on the other hand if anyone's like me i've always loved reading stories to people and this could be a way of giving back to the Veeky Forums community and allowing anons here to listen to history books on the go while commuting or something
the idea of people recording history books like audio books to listen to on the go sounds neat the other shit sounds gay
Eli Jenkins
Well enjoy having either A. Two polar opposite groups with one demanding you to read mienkampf, while the other demand Karl Marx. Or you'll get B, one autistic who keeps spamming porn into "audio" books because he's the only one with decent recording equipment
Carter Moore
>the other shit sounds gay what in particular? how do you propose we set such a thing up?
>mein kampf or karl marx i don't think so. people who want to listen to audiobooks here want to listen to interesting material, so they'd want more variety than that. the good thing about doing it ourselves, too, is because we can read from tons of history books that audiobook companies would never bother hiring someone for. we can record all types of obscure subjects and as a result we'd raise the level of knowledge and awareness about subjects that interest us.
also, as a tech pleb, what constitutes decent recording equipment?
Jordan Rogers
I'd like this. People have told me I have a good voice for reading.
Jace Ward
yeah that's why i thought it up. some people have good voices for audiobooks and others don't. i've listened to some official audiobooks with awful narrators, so why shouldn't we on Veeky Forums create our own on historical subjects that interest us?
how would we set it up though? whats the best way to record oneself and store these audiobooks?
Daniel Myers
Possibly just recording it in chunks and uploading it somewhere.
We could make a Discord server and just directly upload them to there. It'd double as a place for us to discuss shit
Juan Allen
that'd make sense. we should use the Veeky Forums discord server already up already discord.gg/Cf2Na
Samuel Taylor
to add though: whats the best way to make a quality recording?
Sebastian Cooper
Uh, good recording equipment?
I have a Blue Snowball and a little mini-sound booth of sorts that it rests in; improves the audio quality of it plenty.
Matthew Sullivan
>little mini-sound booth of sorts tell me more, is it jerry rigged out of pillows and stuff? would blue snowball alone be good enough?
Christian Brooks
Alone, the Snowball is passable. If you want a genuinely good audio quality though, you'll need a pop filter and a sound booth of sorts.
What I did was get a cubic foot fabric container; I taped sound-absorbing foam to each side of the inside. Set it down with the open end facing you, set the Snowball inside, and it's enough to noticeably increase audio quality. Good setup if you can't go covering the inside of your closet or something in sound foam.
bump maybe i'll make a new thread in a few weeks to promote the idea again

/g/'s projects never work out. Attempts to organize anons rarely do. Good luck though.
Ethan Mitchell
An audio or book club in general is something I support a lot. Might actually allow intelligent discussion around here
Isaiah Harris
yeah if i had the time and the will i'd organize a bookclub here, but without direction such an enterprise would fizzle out pretty quickly. i got thinking about recording audiobooks because if people record at their own pace it'd be less demanding, and once they upload their material other people would be able to listen and then discuss what they've heard here on Veeky Forums or in a chatroom on discord or something
