Depending on what period of Roman you'd asked, they'd probably take trading their territories in Africa/the middle east for shitty northern barbarians as a raw deal.
Obviously though technologically things have changed and in terms of civilized city-dwelling society Europe is less of a backwater than it was in their day, so who knows.
