Why does HRE and Byzantine never united into a single state?

Why does HRE and Byzantine never united into a single state?

>German LARPERS vs Greek LARPER
Why would they?

there was something between them and it didnt wish to be part of either

also really stupid question
read why the west and east separated in the first place

The closest it came iirc was a proposed marriage between Empress Irene and Charlemagne, but nothing came of that.

You mean
>Barbarians vs true heirs

Who would be top dog?

>why didn't the preservers of Rome unite with the would-be destroyers of Rome?

Because as far as the HRE was concerned, the only Romans were "hurr hold rome, n latin users & catholic n shieet."

As far as the Byzantines were concerned everyone in Western Europe was a Barbarian cunt.

Because the Basileus never got the Imperial crown of the HRE, and the Kaiser never got the Imperial crown of Byzantium.

Charles attempted it, but failed.

>France
>HRE

Pick one

They had different kinds of wewuzism.

The ottonians tried, but it failed.

Almost could have happened when Otto III (whose mother was a Byzantine princess) requested to marry Basil II's daughter, Zoe. Alas it never came to be as Otto died shortly afterwards.

Basil II's niece sorry

Remember Charlemagne?

You mean the barbarian that had the audacity to claim the legacy of the Roman Empire? Yeah

You disgust me.

The Franks being Barbarians is a meme. They abandoned their Barbarian ways some 150 years before Charlemagne was Crowned.

None the less, can we talk about how Normans some how fucked around and at some point in time had a seat in the highest crowns of Europe.

Norman Holy Roman Emperor
Norman Byzantine Emperor
Norman Crusader Prince
Norman King of England

Why did eveyone hate them, they could have united Europe

He was the Holy Roman Emperor and he ruled France.

He was crowned the Roman Emperor, the HRE was proceeded title after some years later and some disputes over the title.

Charlemagne's succesor was not crowned the Roman Emperor but rather king of Italy and other lands.

It wasnt until Otto that the dispute came up again and that the HRE was created.

You mean the French guy who civilized the g*rmshit ?

>Feudal cluster of germanic kingdoms, an elected monarch and with their own brand of christianity
>Bureaucratic, majority Greek empire, with Roman customs and traditions and their own brand of christianity
I wonder why.

>actual continuation of the Roman Empire
>We Wuz
pick one

WE

So they weren't wewuz, as they were an actual continuous construct of the Roman Empire.

Jutland a part of HRE

delet

>french
This board was a mistake

WE

>Heirs
How can the Roman Empire be the heir to the Roman Empire?

Because Religion.
The scism between the East and West was far to great. Even after Constantin tried to unify again. It failed horribly. The cultures shifted away from each other and estranged form each other. Its not that easy to unify such a big landmass under one rule. E.G. the Austro-Hungarians were such a multicultural state. And that was why it failed(not juzst because of that, but in large part because of that). Now try and unify a much more bigger and "divers" land mass such as you purposed. It will not work.

It would've nearly happened had Emperor Charles married Empress Irene.

Man, Europe would've been so much better if Otto III didn't die so young.
