idk how to use telnet and tried to compile with cyg, keeps giving me the 401 error.

Try compiling on bash on ubuntu for windows. Follow the unix build instructions after you get ubuntu for windows.

I use windows too and got it going using this method.

it seems it was compiled correctly but testing the port still says "connect failed" -- opened the ports on the router and still the same shit.

Did you configure magacoin.conf in %APPDATA%\Magacoin?

Maybe drop the daemon=1 if you're running qt. Add rpcallowip=192.168.1.*

And now you don't need to add the -server flag as it will get it from your config file.

Grab your address and from within bash run:

./minerd -o 192.168.1.x:5332 -u username -p password --coinbase-addr=xxx

Substitute username, password and coinbase-addr accordingly. And your computer's fans will start powering on.
